I always imagined them a gray color, that way they could still be dark eyes, but not be so black that they aren't really differentiated from his hair.

I'm not sure if the books say but I always got the impression that they were dark especially since everyting about him is dark save for his complexion. Though I do like the thought of him having grayblue eyes.

they could be dark. But i always though some peircing blue/gray eyes fit him. Like an ice tundra fits his personality, deadly but beautiful, cold and unforgiving. ya know?
The mention of dark and cold just could mean thats the feeling you get from his eyes when you look at him. No clue. Not like the writer really goes into detail

I'm not sure... though I go with the grayblue as well.. though a darker shade.
I don't think they ever really say in the novels what his eye color really is.

The first movie had his eyes glowing a blue color and even when not glowing they were still blue. Vampire hunter D Bloodlust not only had a red color, but as I look at the pictures when D is normal, his eyes look to be yellow. So who knows.

In Bloodlust they looked blue when they weren't vampiric red. In the first movie as well. In one of Yoshitaka Amano's portraits of D his eye's are a dark grayish blue. They could even have some kind of Dark Indigo. In the new Manga Novels I would also agree with how piercing his pupils seem to appear in black and white they look like a gray blue but more light gray blue. But I would say they are supposed to be a dark dark blue so sometimes they will appear even black or dark eyes.

Vampire Hunter D: The Stuff of Dreams Quote: "How did you know I'd come." "That was the impression I got last night." As he finished speaking, the hospital director swallowed hard. D was calmly gazing at him. The black of his eyes, impossibly dark and deep, awakened fearful memories etched in the very genes of the director's cells. They're black.

Vampire Hunter D: Dark Nocturne Quote: "Twenty years ago, the Nobles that departed this place returned. A number of people heard that song, and now their children have come back here at the very same time. Why's that?" said the hunter, the black depths of his eyes transfixing Price. I'm pretty sure they're black.
