Arianrhod soared above the treetops, exalting in the freedom. Free from her mom and her rules, free from her siblings who were too stupid, and too lame, and too just sucky to even be thought about.
She was finally free of all of them. Free to go where she wanted, do what she wanted, say what she wanted, and she wouldn't have to worry about saying some shitty apology or other so mom would put her down.
Just thinking about it made her feel like mom was holding her up by the scruff again, in punishment for some thing or another.
Arian made a face, and pushed that out of mind. Whatever. Her shitty so-called family was gone now, and she wouldn't ever have to see any of them again, if she didn't want to. And she didn't. Except maybe Daddy. He was better than the rest, at least. Not that that said a damn thing of worth.
She saw a mountain coming up, and decided to land on it. She could go for miles more, if she wanted, but she didn't want to. She just wanted to sit up there, miles above everyone else, and enjoy being away from all of the ******** she'd had to put up with in her kithood.

Ithaca opened one eye when she heard the sounds of wings nearby, then narrowed that eye in angry suspicion. That was no bird.
Ith had always been alone. She remembered no one like her, and she hadn't spoken to any of the others she'd seen before. The Modifoxes, they called themselves. Well, they could be whatever the hell they wanted, for all she cared. Ithaca resented being abandoned as a kit, and she avoided any like her 'parents'. They did a good job of running away and avoiding her too.
Now, she didn't give much of a damn. Those idiots could be happy and do whatever they wanted, she didn't need them. Once she was big enough to hold her own in whatever kind of terrain, Ithaca had made this mountain home, and stayed in her cave when she wasn't hunting or doing other things to survive.
And now, after all this time, something her size decided to land up here? That wasn't going to last long.
Ithaca stood and left her cave, looking around for the soruce of the noise.
There. Another female, who was like her. As a kit, maybe she would have cared, knowing she wasn't the only one of her kind. Now, the female was just an annoyance.
"Lost?" she asked quietly, the icy, dangerous quality to her voice hinting at the fact that that was more than just a question. This female better get lost.

Arian bristled at the other female. She was damned if she was going to let her get away with talking to her like that.
"Not at all," Arian hissed back to the other 'daeva. A small part of her mind was glad at least this one was a proper 'daeva, and unlike her older brothers Aodh and Rai, but only a very small part. The rest was focused on how pissed she was at the blue female for intruding on her glorious alone-away-and-free time.
"Who went and made you queen of the mountain, anyway?" she challenged.

Ithaca pulled her ears back at the other female's attitude. "I live here," she growled. "And I'm not in the mood for visitors."
In the back of her mind, Ithaca was mmmaayybbee somewhat curious about the other female. And about what they were, and a lot of things. And okay, so she wasn't really out for violence. Because maybe not being alone wasn't so horrible.
No, no. Not good thinking. She didn't need this stranger.
"Whatever," she shrugged. Ithaca turned and headed back for the cave, figuring the other female wouldn't stay around long.

Well then, Arian was going to stay, if just to piss off the other female as much as she'd pissed Arian off.
And then the other just went and turned around, completely brushing Arian off.
"What is your deal? You ******** bipolar or something? You pissed? You don't care? Which is it?"
So much for thinking she'd met a normal 'deava. Nope, she'd just found one that was crazy in a different way than her big brothers. ********>

"What's it matter to you?" Ithaca snorted, looking over her shoulder at the other. What was it to anyone? "Shouldn't you just be happy I'm leaving you alone? I thought that's how everyone acted."
Ith didn't really care if she'd betrayed the fact that she knew absolutely no one. With no one ever really around to bother her, she'd never quite developed the capacity to hide some things and tell other things.
She had a sneaking suspicion this other...whatever they were, wouldn't let it just drop at that. She seemed impetuous and argumentative, and it'd probably just be better to let her get it out of her system. So Ithaca just sat down, waiting for the words to come out of the other.
Ultimately, she'd leave too.

" 'Cause you're acting crazy, acting one way and then completely different the next minute. You want me gone, then you just ignore me, and then what's next? You decide you wanna attack?"
Hell, Arian was holding herself back from lashing out at the other female. She couldn't do crazy, not after having to put up with crazy crap from her family. She was done with that s**t. Done.
Some things clicked in Arian's mind then.
"You even learn how to act around others yet? How many others have you been around, that you have that stupid idea that everyone wants to be left alone?"
Yeah, so Caolan was big on the alone thing, but mom wasn't, and Arian...hell, Arian wasn't quite sure yet. She definitely didn't want to be around her family, but other than that? No clue. She didn't care, either, plenty of time to figure things out one way or another.

"I'm sorry," Ithaca shrugged, still sitting. "I'm just not accustomed to seeing other...whatever we are." She didn't really care what this girl thought; she was impulsive and loud, two things Ithaca wasn't. She'd move on soon enough, when she tired of Ith.
"No, to answer your question. I've only ever seen others, not spoken to them."
A gust slammed past them, sending Ithaca's wings up and fluttering. Used to this by now, the loner settled again, watching the other closely. Not as a friend, or an acquaintance. As a...hmm. As an interesting study.

Arian stared at the other female strangely. She couldn't believe she didn't even know what she was!
"Modidaevas. That's what we are." Arian's tone of voice made it clear that she thought 'daevas were the best of the best--'phims and foxes and even Elders had nothing on them. Nobody did.
Arian turned her face into the gust, so it harmlessly slid around her body. It wasn't powerful enough to really do damage to her wings, but she wouldn't risk something that important. She'd heard about what her older brother, Aodh, had done to his wings once, and like hell was she going to repeat that mistake!
No, she valued flying far too much to let stupidity take that away from her for months, maybe forever if her wings didn't heal right. She wasn't exactly sure what Aodh had done to get his wings to heal up okay--she wasn't going to hunt down her freak of an older brother and ask him, either. She just wasn't going to go there, ever.

"Modidaevas," Ithaca rumbled, mulling over the word. "Alright then." She looked the other over, then relaized what she was missing.
"My name's Ithaca," she added. "What's yours?" The female still wasn't being 'friendly'; she doubted she'd ever do that. But this stranger seemed to have answers to some questions of hers, and there was no use pushing her away.
Ithacha hadn't failed to notice the other's mental agitation, either. Something seemed to be upsetting her. "And whatever it is you're so pissed about, you're wasting enrgy on it. You're miles away from any other fox."

"Arianrhod," Arian replied automatically. Mom had drilled that one into her quite well.
"I'm not pissed about anything," Arian snapped at Ith. Well now she was, she was pissed that Ith thought she knew Arian well enough to know what she was thinking. She had just met her, for ******** sake!
"Well, now I am," she added, with a meaningful look over at Ith, before the other female started to think that she actually knew Arian again.
Nobody knew Arian, not Mom, not any of her siblings, not even Daddy.
Absolutely no one.

"Then you do a fine job of acting like you are," Ithaca said, eyerolling slightly. Were all of their kind this bitchy? Sure, there was "Get the ******** away from me", which she did, but this female was quite possibly even worse. Which was seriously, seriously saying something.
Tiring of this little game, Ithaca decided to end it, if she could. "Look, if you hate me so much, ******** off already. I'm apaprently pissing you off, so why stay? If you don't want to leave, then stop being so damn sensitive already."

Arian was about to snap back something along the lines of 'fine then', but then that would prove that Ith was right, and like hell would Arian allow that. Ith didn't know her well enough to be right!
Instead she settled down in Ith's cave, making every show of making herself at home. Once she was settled, she finally turned her attention back to Ith.
"So, what makes ya think ya know me, huh?" Her voice still had an edge to it, but (for what little it was worth) it was calmer than the rage she had been in earlier.
No, she was not going to give that girl the satisfaction of thinking she knew Arian at all.
((Arian, you have the most twisted, messed up logic I have ever had the misfortune of seeing. o_O ))

"I don't know you, Arianrhod," Ithaca shrugged. "I'm sorry for making it seem like I thought I did."
The blue and black female padded further into her home, then settled down. Arian didn't bother her. She could chase her out if she needed to; Ithaca had experience living as a loner on her side. She'd chased out plenty of crazy wild animals.
"No one knows you but you, just as no one knows me but me. I imagine it's like that for any fox, even when others claim to have knowledge of them. In the end, we can only ocunt on ourselves."
It was in Ithaca's nature to be philosophical, but hopefully it would appease the voltatile Daeva that had stumbled into her cave.

The hell was that? The hell kind of 'deava apologized? Arian didn't get Ith. But now Ith's actions had sparked her curiosity--curiosity Arian hadn't even realized she'd had. Looks like she had inherited a bit of her mother's personality after all.
"How do you know you can only know yourself? You ever tried knowing anyone else?"
And there was her 'deava nature, inherited from Daddy, back again. She didn't have to contradict everything everyone else said.
Just most things.
