Basically, this is a thread to recommend all your favorite well written fanfics. Here's a handy dandy little form to help keep it organized. Fandom: Title: URL: Author: Length: Status: Abandoned, Complete, or WIP Rating: Warnings: Summary: Reason for the Rec: Most sites automatically list the length, summary, and rating of a fic, but if you're unsure, just use your best judgment. It's fine to list a fic as 'long/novel length' if that's what it is. If you're unsure about the ratings, http://www.fictionratings.com/ has a good guide. It's also probably best to not rec anything that's NC-17. I'm not sure what Gaia and the guild's policy is on it, so better safe than sorry. ALWAYS post a warning list when dealing with anything sensitive, like child abuse, an adult/child pairing, or rape.I'd also put a warning on anything with slash in it. It's obviously not quite the same thing, but still something people may not want in their fic. And feel free to list the main pairings or any additional info you'd like about your recs.

I guess I'll start it off then... Fandom: Harry Potter Title: Harry Potter and the Nightmares of Futures PastAuthor: S'TarKan Length: 370,000+ Status: WIP (slow updates) Rating: Teen Warnings: It's been a while since I've read it so I can't be sure. I know Harry had PTSD and had been tortured in the past, but that's really it. Summary: The war is over. Too bad no one is left to celebrate. Harry makes a desperate plan to go back in time, even though it means returning Voldemort to life. Now an 11 year old Harry with 30 year old memories is starting Hogwarts. Can he get it right? Reason for the Rec: This is a brilliant fanfic. Excellent characterization, interesting storyline, etc. I love the Harry-Potter-Redo cliche and this is by far the best of them. Fandom: Harry Potter Title: Had I KnownAuthor: kayly silverstorm Length: 120,000+ Status: WIP (slow updates) Rating: M Warnings: Mentions of suicide, child abuse, and torture, but nothing graphic. Summary: After killing Voldemort during seventh year, Harry vanished without a trace. But now, 8 years later, a deadly secret forces him to return and it seems that only Snape will be able to save him. SSHP, no slash Reason for the Rec: I really enjoyed this fic. I especially loved the Snape!characterization. Basically Harry ends up having to rewatch his worst memories with Snape in order to save the world, so there is some angst. It's a really interesting and I love the OCs that make brief appearances. Fandom: Lord of the Rings Title: Daughter of TimeAuthor: wednesday-mc Length: 185,000+ Status: WIP Rating: Teen Warnings: Slight Mary Sue Summary: Very AU & Alt Reality. Legolas never left Middle-Earth, but stayed behind to look after Aragorn's children--most specifically the first-born daughter of each generation. This generation's daughter was never prepared to believe in Elves, much less Legolas. Reason for the Rec: This is one of the very, very few LotR stories I've loved, where the protagonist is a female OC. It's a great story, especially in the beginning. I enjoyed getting to see how someone might react to finding out that LotRs was a true story. Fair warning though, not only did the author decide to stop updating on fanfiction.net, it appears to be going turning into a Legomance. Still, I loved it the first time I read it and the first 150k words are well worth it. Fandom: Lord of the Rings Title: Don't Panic!Author: boz4PM Length: 130,000+ Status: Complete Rating: Teen Warnings: Summary: Penny is panicking. Where is she? How did she get here? How is she going to get home and whose backside will she kick first when she does? A woman lost in Middle Earth wearing only her pyjamas. This can't be good... (STRONG language; NOT a M-Sue) Reason for the Rec: Yay! Finally a character who reacts reasonably to waking up in the middle of nowhere. None of this, "Oh, I must be in Lord of the Rings because that was what I was reading last." Penny reacts to waking up in LotR in surprisingly reasonable ways. I especially liked how she struggles with her knowledge of the books and whether or not to try and change things. And she doesn't join the quest. Fandom: Star Wars Title: Shadows of the FutureAuthor: stormqueen873 Length: 120,000+ Status: Complete Rating: K+ Warnings: Summary: ObiWan lost the duel on Mustafar, but instead of dying, he finds himself on a ship leaving Tatooine, with his old Master and a familiar young boy. As events begin to unfold, can he stop the future he knows from occurring? TPM AU, ObiAniQui bonding, DONE! Reason for the Rec: I love this fic. It's probably my favorite of all time. It's a got the prefect mix of fluff and plot. Read it. NOW. Even if you don't like Star Wars.

Summary: Ed goes to lived with the Colonel, and well... Reason for the Rec: It's hilarious! xd Fandom: FMA Title: Felis Arcanum URL: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3734705/1/Author: silkendreammaid Length: 111,354 Status: WIP Rating: T Warnings: I think it was turning into Ed/Roy. xp And it's been a while since the author updated. Summary: Ed turns into a cat. Reason for the Rec: From what I can remember it was well-written, there wasn't a lot of OOCness if any, and well, I enjoy the fact Ed transmuted himself into a cat. Fandom: Kingdom Hearts Title: The Annals of Darkness: The Beginning URL: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3425579/1/Author: Shire Folk Length: >455,317 Status: Complete though there's two more parts. Rating: T Warnings: None whatsoever Summary: Part I. A normal life is first in the minds of Sora, Kairi, and Riku before they are thrust headfirst into another plot for Kingdom Hearts. Maleficent is back, and her nefarious plans could cost Sora his heart, in more ways than one. Reason for the Rec: It's amazing, well-detailed, and everything is almost more well-developed then the actual game. If Tolkien wrote Kingdom Hearts instead of LotR, it probably would've gone like this. And Shire Folk updates regularely! Fandom: FMA Title: The Pursuit of Happiness URL: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3355556/1/Author: rockpaperscissor Length:849 Status: Complete Rating: K+ Warnings: None Summary: People like his brother couldn’t just be happy. No, people like his brother needed happiness to be shoved down their throats with a spoonful of sugar and a nice dose of sedatives. Reason for the Rec: It's one of the funniest, yet profound oneshots I've ever read. Fandom: Pokemon Title: A Whisper in the Wind URL: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3362447/1/A_Whisper_in_the_WindAuthor: Artemis Ignitan Length: 44,513 Status: Complete Rating: K+ Warnings: Nothing I can say without spoiling it. Summary: After achieving the title of Pokemon Master, Ash disappears, leaving nothing except for a strange black feather. Ten years later, disaster has fallen on Kanto, and it appears nothing can save it, until a man cloaked in shadows arrives. Reason for the Rec: It's written well, and it's what I always wanted to see in a pokemon fanfic. These are all lit, and they were my absolute favorites, back when I read fanfiction. ...what if he were a Vampire? After all, you can't kill someone if they're already dead. This quite literally immortalized him, birthing the first story Kiss of Death from this premise and the rest just kept on growing, for that one idea was the beginning of a huge, sprawling multifandom crossover that spans more than 7,000 years of history and is filled with romance, thrills and high adventure, coupled with death-defying acts of heroism and the misery of loss and defeat.
There are hundreds of fandoms represented in the AU, ranging from television shows and literature to films and fairy tales. To only name a few, it is possible to find all three of the CSI shows, Law & Order, 24, Forever Knight and Young Riders. In the Sylumverse you'll find Blade, Indiana Jones, Captain Jack Sparrow, Lara Croft and nearly a thousand more famous, infamous, and cult icons, all interspersed with original characters and various prominent historical figures whose contributions to the world are honored by memorializing them as Clan Members, Chosen Ones and adversaries.
