The day had been overcast and had finally given in to rain chasing everyone from the streets in the Linkton town square. Everyone save for a little girl around the age of seven. She sat crying in a doorway trying to keep from getting drenched in the downpour. She had just been cast from her home by her mother whose mood had recently turned foul at her daughter's difficulty toward learning a more advanced incantation. However all the young man saw was a pretty girl, crying in the rain. He had just escaped his home himself, though he had left of his own accord, wanting to seek the solace and comfort of his favorite secret place the room hidden in the clock tower by the town square. He had found it Years back and had ever since kept it secret from everyone, however this poor girl's sadness had caught his eye.
Ophidion Basilisk Daragann "Master Daragann, it's time for your finances class. Please be sure not to... Dally." Gibfried the butler stopped short. "Master Daragann!" He asserted. Young Dion suddenly snapped out of his trance of staring out from the window and turned to face the old servant, he found his strange sideburns and awkwardly erect posture amusing. "Alright then Jeeves." He replied careful not to make eye contact with the man as he sauntered past him and out through the door. Gibfried hated being called Jeeves, he found it both rude and insulting and it always turned his ears the most fascinating shade of purple Dion had ever seen. Once out in the hall he felt like a prisoner in a lavish cell, the walls of dark wood and carefully polished floors all accented by expensive rugs and paintings. Dion had no respect for them because they'd always been there. he'd ruined several in fact and always there would be a new one to replace it within hours. Gibfried now followed him down the hallway where he was supposed toi turn to the left for his finances class. "Oh how I despise Finances." He thought to himself with an annoyed look clearly displayed. profit margins and loss to gain ratios all so utterly useless and confusing. His family had always been rich and they always would be, end of story. And so Dion darted off to the right when the hallway ended. Gibfried had been expecting him to run, he always had, and so the old man swiftly pursued the young man. However after a few sharp turns and ducking under the dining room table, Dion lost the butler pursuant. "Heh heh heh." Dion breathed as his heartrate began to slow. He rounded the final corner ending up at the secret passageway. he pressed against the wood wall and with a click he wasinside the small passageway on his way out from the mansion which he was forced to call home. Soon he found himself at the stone wall opening which led out into the gardens. With a slight grinding noise the stones moved out of place allowing him to squeeze out from behind the secret passageway into the hedge maze. This had originally been his favorite activity and now he knew the maze inside and backwards. and as the sky had just begun to drizzle he opened the small black umbrella he'd stahed away in the passagway for just such an occasion. Left turn, right turn Left turn straight and finally one last right turn and he'd reached the maze exit and, due to the rain, had an easy time squeezing out through the side entrance without being noticed. He was headed for his normal hiding place. However on his way there he'd encountered an unusual sight a girl sitting alone and crying. Normally he'd find a way around to his hiding place, yet this time was different. He couldn't explain why but he felt he had to speak with the young lady. Even though he'd never thought it possible when he stepped forward he felt a warmth inside his small heart, one which he'd never felt before living in his cold and financially well off life. "Girl, why are you crying?" Asked the little boy who carried the small black umbrella. He had stopped a few feet away from her. His ornate clothing decorated with a hand crafted serpent design warm and dry.

A fairy with dark green wings and blond hair was in a dark room with candles lit. Her daughter who was half elf and half fairy was right in front of her, looking through a large book of dark spells. The fairy's name was Renian and her daughter, was Hope. Renian was getting very annoyed. She was trying to teach her daughter these spells but with this one spell Hope just couldn't get it. This was their 20th try now and Renian was losing her patience quickly. "Alright.... One more time... Put your hands together, focus the dark energy and make a black and purple ball. Hope nodded slowly and put her hands together. She took a few deep breaths and tried to focus her energy. It was about 3 minutes before something actually happened and it wasn't what Renian wanted. Hopes energy had gone sharp and flew past Renian's arm, cutting her slightly. She winced and lost her temper. "God damn you child! Your hopeless!" Renian yelled. Hope looked down and before she could speak she was grabbed by her arm tightly and dragged to the front door. "Don't need a useless thing like you." She said coldly and pushed her outside into the rain.
Hope gasped as she hit the cold wet ground. She could never catch her balance when she was pushed. Hope felt tears form in her eyes as she pushed herself up off the wet ground, her clothes soaked and dirty now. She was seven years old and her mother just tossed her out. Hope looked around, her voice gone from shock, tears already running down her face. She walked back to the door and fell against the side starting to cry out loud, putting her hand to her eyes as she did. The rain started to pour harder the more she cried.
Hope sat there for a while before she herd a male voice ask her why she was crying. She forced herself to stop and sniffled a bit as she looked up at the boy with fancy clothing and an umbrella. He looked older then her. How much older? She couldn't guess and right now it didn't matter. She hiccuped a bit and wiped her eyes. "M-my mommy.. pushed me out of my home.." She cried softly as she looked down and let her wet blond hair stick to her face.

Ophidion Basilisk Daragann Dion's reaction was far from the average, he'd never really been able to relate to others. And As he'd had to escape so often, he didn't see what the big deal was. He paused and thought a moment really not wanting to leave this girl alone, not in the rain like that. "Well if you have nowhere else to go, then I know of a place that's out of the rain at least." Dion smiled a simple smile, a warm smile to his new friend. He reached a hand out to her and as he waited fr her to take it he added, "but you gotta promise not to tell anyone about it ok? It's a secret place." His face grew slightly serious when he made this last request of her. The small umbrella leaning forward to block the tiny bit of rain which fell on the girl even as she sat in the door jam.

Hope watched the boy as he invited her to join him and held out his hand. She looked town at it, her crying was slowly stopping now that this boy was showing he cared. She was going to reach for his hand but hesitated. She lightly gulped and took his hand, looking up at him. "Secret place?" She repeated softly and stood up. She nodded to agree that she would keep it a secret and stepped under the umbrella with him.

Ophidion Basilisk Daragann Hearing the girl's agreement Dion nodded and pulled her up to her feet. "Now remember, you promised!" He spoke in a mildly serious partially warm way. A child's way. "So let's go." Dion's hand still held the girl's tightly and he looked both ways before leading the girl down the street the falling rain tapping against the umbrella like falling candy. Dion kept rather quiet on the short path to the white clock tower which had served as his most secret hiding place. It was hardly the time to talk, not with the cold and her being so wet. There were three reasons the tower made such a perfect hiding place. One, the bell had long since stopped ringing. Two, the door needed a key which few people had. Three, the door was in the back, so despite the fact it was placed on the edge of the town square, entering the building would go unnoticed. Despite the falling rain having chased everyone out from the streets which were bathed in the gray glow of storm light, Dion's eyes always flashed about searching for spies. "You want to know a secret?" He asked her quietly as they rounded a corner, the tower coming into view. He didn't wait for her response and instead decided to continue assuming that she'd agree. "I'm not supposed to be out in the streets like this. My parents hate that I sneak out. But I can't stand staying indoors. Y'know?" The smell of fresh rain muted the normal scents of the town square, the spices the fresh bread, the fruit. But this was not on Dion's mind, the two were so close to the tower now. But then, the town crier stepped into view, Dion darted down an alleyway, tugging Hope's arm with him, his pace had been quick the entire time. It was easier dodging through the crowd. When they were safely concealed in the alley Dion turned to her his breathing slightly elevated due to the swift pace he'd been travelling at. "Sorry, Bertrand's out we'll need to wait here for just a little bit." He looked to the girl and as if for the first time actually looked at her. She was a kid, like him but not like the normal urchin's who'd run away from him or call him names. In fact his fancy clothes made him an outcast amongst most normal children.

Hope nodded when he told her to remember she promised. She walked quietly with him, her little hand in his as they made their way to his secret place. She looked around as they walked but her attention went right to him when he quietly told her his secret. "You run?" She asked softly and before she realized it he dashed and she was being pulled. She gasped softly and tried to keep up but it was hard. She had almost slipped and fallen. Hope panted slightly when they finally stopped and she looked up at him. "We are secret?" She asked him, her hand gripping his slightly.

Ophidion Basilisk Daragann Dion's breath began to slow when he saw that the town crier hadn't seen them hide. A small grin spread across his lips when he'd realized everything was safe, turning to hope with pride twinkling in his eyes he boldly responded "Yep and they haven't found me yet!" He laughed lightly as the thought of the old butler explaining to his father that his son'd skipped out on classes again. Though these thoughts were momentarily interrupted with concern. "You ok? I didn't mean to tug you along like that, but yeah we've got to be reely sneaky or we'll get caught and they'll send me back home." He laughed again his eyes sparkling with the perceived danger. "Haven't you ever snuck out before?" He would have waited patiently for an answer but his young mind wanted to check if the coast was clear yet. He back tight against the wall and edged toward the corner sneaking a peek out at the vacant town square. Though as a kid he'd still be listening to anything Hope might have added.

Hope watched him and could only smile with the way he was so happy that they weren't caught. She looked out the alley way from where she was standing and couldn't see much she tilted her head a bit till she her him ask if she was okay. She nodded and slowly followed him to the edge. "I have never suck out." She told him as she shyly fiddled with her fingers and looked down. "Are we almost there?" She asked him and hugged herself. "I'm cold.." She told him as she looked up at him and hoped he would be able to warm her up somehow.

Ophidion Basilisk Daragann Dion nodded to the little girl when he saw that she was interested in peering out from their hiding place though quickly followed by a clear ly shocked expression. "You've never snuck out before?" but before he could react and question her further her comment called him back to the rain and the dreariness which surrounded them, as well the faint smell of wet garbage which filtered up into his nostrils began to sour the moment. "Then let's go my hiding place isn't far and it's usually very warm, we should be in the clear now." And with that said he sidled carefully around the corner and then waved for her to follow. And with only a few short steps they were at the ivory doorway of the grand clock tower. Dion's favorite secret place for three reasons. He only knew of one other person whop had a key, and the tower's curator was a good friend of his. The entrance was around the back and so out of view for most people from the town square. Thirdly it had so much room since they carted away the old bells. Dion pulled from his pocket the small bronze key which unlocked the ornate door and a soft orange light filtered out from inside. He motioned through the door gingerly and once he followed her inside would lock the door again. The air was warm inside the tower and slightly sweet, like the aroma of fresh breads and pastries. Gildamar must've left another present for him. Fwop cried the umbrella as Dion had started to close it setting it aside carelessly as he'd now grown concerned at the girl's shivering. "Are you okay?" He asked while the large and intricate mechanich spun sputtered and whirred around them, the small lantern which had shed the orange light cast a few shadows across the realm. some fanciful some frightening, but the boy's smiling face was certain to be a reassuring sight.

She nodded as they finally went to the secret hiding place. She could feel the warmth hit her when she stepped in but she was still shivering like crazy due to the fact her and her clothes were wet and cold. She looked around the place, amazed by it. She turned around to Dion when he asked her if she was okay and she nodded a bit. "I'm okay.. I should warm up soon right?" She asked him and smiled a bit. It seemed she had already forgotten about her mom kicking her out.

Ophidion Basilisk Daragann Soon the boy turned to his newest cohort nd, with a clearly concerned smile shook his head at her question. "Not with those wet clothes on you won't" Dion set down and aside the small black umbrella and offered the girl his hand as they still hadn't quite arrived at the true hiding place yet. When she took his hand he would lead her by aid of the lanterns light up the small spiral staircase and into the tower's hear chamber. Originally a spare room which would house the occasional caretaker of the tower, yet this time the caretaker happened to also be the town official whose responsibilities kept him out and away from the tower all day every day. Shortly Dion would use the small lantern to light the first gass lamp in the tower chamber which cast a warm golden light across the small room. Inside stacked high were boxes filled with books and toys and snacks and clothing. Everything a kid could want was ready to be plucked from the stacks. In the center of the room lay a thick mat rug which was very comfortable to lay upon, and in the corner was a small bed which was not. And carefully scattered across the room were a few chairs and buried under drawings and old crumbled food wrappers was a small desk. When the lamps had been lit he left Hope to take in the sights rummaging through his stores for a particular box. The box which contained the dress Gildamar had surprised him with those months ago. "Young Dion," he'd said, "You'll never know when this might come in handy." And sure enough when he found the blue cardboard box with the white ribbon, he thanked the old man for his forethought and wandered back to the girl who had accompanied him up the stairs.stepping into the slightly rainbowed light cast from one of the several stained glass mosaics which lined the walls. However they didn't allow much light inside on a dreary day such as this one. He held out the box delicately.

Hope took his hand gently and walked with him up the stairs, amazed by everything she saw. She smiled as they finally got up there seeing so many box's of toys and clothes and yummy snacks. Hopes eyes soon turned to a blue box that Dion was holding. She reached out and gently grabbed it "For me?" She asked him as she poked the pretty white ribbon

Ophidion Basilisk Daragann Dion smiled and giggled at the girl's question, he'd never even opened it himself so he was very curious to find out what kind of dress would be inside. With a gentle nod of his head he added "Mhmm" Which seemed the most appropriate, even though as he started to watch her reaction he was beginning to think she may have never received a gift before. This made him inexplicably excited and his cheeks flushed a slight hue of red and his ears the same.

Hope slowly reached for the ribbon, being careful not to wreck or rip it she getnyl pulled it apart and took the lid off of the box. Hope reached in and pulled out a beautiful dress with the matching accessories and wall to go with it.(Her clothes in her pic) Hope smiled brightly and held it out so she could stare. "Its so pretty!!!" She said happily and giggled as she showed it to him. Hope ran over and hugged Dion tightly." Thank youso much."

Ophidion Basilisk Daragann Dion's eyes merely widened as the girl revealed the dress which had never before been opened and then she hugged him. He'd never been embraced like this by anyone and for a time he stood there stunned and unable to say anything, slowly his arms wrapped around the girl's body and he hugged her back. He was glad Guildamar'd had such forethought, and that he hadn't cheaped out on him. And after the embrace soon the redness drained from his cheeks and his words returned to him. "You're soaked through. Go change before you catch your death." It was then he realized he'd still never gotten her name, yet his hand motioned over to a changing screen which would give her the privacy she would need. Meanwhile Dion would turn up the furnace so that they could be warm.
