It depends on what you eat. I eat 5, 6, 7 times a day, but I eat 100-200 calorie snacks and 300-400 calorie meals. It's absolutely fine, in fact it's better, to snack as long as you eat the right things.
Obviously, sugar is not the thing because it won't feel you up and will actually make you feel hungrier. If you want to eat a treat, do it with a meal, preferably lunch because you don't want it to be the last thing you eat for the day.
The best snacks are fruits and vegetables because you can eat A LOT of them without getting too many calories. When I first choose to eat carrots instead of chips, I actually had to force myself to finish the 50 calories worth of carrots that I had chosen because I just felt so full so quickly.
If you still want to "sweetness" of sugar, then fruit is definitely the way to go. Throw some blueberries or grapes into a bowl and it will be like snacking on sugary candy. Melons are great for a soft, juicy feel. Slice up an apple and you can feel like you are eating chips only a little sweeter or more sour if you prefer that kind of apple. Oranges have a little bit more of a sour feel if you like sour candy. Bananas are a nice light snack that fills you up pretty well. Peaches and plums have such a great flavor, you won't even want something else.
The point is, no matter what your taste is, there is a fruit out there to fit it. Pick three or four different fruits that you like for variety. Also, if you choose a couple, you can usually get great prices as different fruits go in and out of seasons.
If you absolutely can't snack on fruits and vegetables, you can make a bunch of healthy snacks that you like once a week or so and then leave them in the fridge. Like, make a bunch of half sandwiches (whatever kind you like) or make a bunch of eggs once a week and put them in the fridge for microwaving when you feel hungry.
There are hundreds of different ways to avoid snacking, so don't feel discouraged if you don't think any of these ways will help.
