Welcome to Greek's Lady Advice Directory, a steroid taking version of Opiums Beauty Tips & Advice Thread!

What we have here is what we have in Opium's thread, except it will be frequently updated with more topics, product reviews, and we even go down under!

Hey Athens, I don't ever remember posting that in here...

That's because I've dedicated my life to stalking you, and everything you post in the ladies forum that is considered to be a tip or a product review. :3

chinotenshi:

Just washing my face and not wearing make-up keeps my skin nice and clear.

Edge Zero:

I wash my face after every meal to help prevent acne.

LeRaven:

If you HAVE to pop a pimple, use Q-Tips, not your fingernails which could have nasty stuff on them.

12-String Pony:

When popping a zit is absolutely necessary, use a cotton pad or a bit of toilet paper with some hot(not BURNING) water to wipe off/suck out the nastyness that comes out.

Brass Knuckles:

Never touch your face unless absolutely necessary.

Wash it EVERY morning and EVERY night, NEVER EVER skip a day.

Apply any kind of acne cream with a q-tip, not your oily nasty finger.

Drink A LOT of water.

Try to mask your face with some kind of tea tree oil acne mask. (i use body shop tea tree oil mask, the tea tree oil isn't necessary but i prefer it)

If you have oily skin, use those oil-blotting papers from drug stores to blot it away (really helps)

MOISTURIZE ALWAYS MOISTURIZE (pref with SPF in it)

Try not to cake on make up, or try to use a non-pore clogging make up.

Squee choo.:

Make sure to change you pillow cases weekly.

Don't bust the pimples in such. The pus that comes out is very disgusting and helps spread more acne on your face, along with that, it leaves such an ugly mark on your pretty face. :]

I r tig:

Moisturizers and sunblock are the MOST important for your skin. Period. It will a) make your skin look nice the day you put it on and b) keep your skin from aging in the long run. You should always put moisturizer on before you use foundation, or mix your foundation in and apply together.

Liza Liopleurodon:

I do an aspirin mask every other day. Helps keep my face really soft and I think it helps prevent acne a little because..well, I never have much acne. Basically just crush up a bunch of aspirin (I use about 7-10) and mix the powder with a couple of drops of water. Apply it to the face, leave it on for about 10-15 minutes and then rinse off.

Moisturizing your face with Olive oil also makes your face nice and soft. I've always just used olive and sometimes a little bit of honey.

Vitamin Crack:

I use facial toner. A lot. Like, the moment I feel my face is sticky or oily or whatever, I put some toner on a cotton pad and just cleanse my face.

I've never tried it but along the lines of the clean pillowcase thing is sleeping on a clean towel. If like me you only have one set of pillowcases (I have 6 pillows so all the cases are always in use), then having a clean towel would work just as well.

Elenriel82:

Wash your face, use a gentle exfoliating cleanser, toner, then use an oil-free moisturizer with sunscreen. It keeps away pimples (even blackheads) very well and protects your skin from the evil sun (no wrinkly skin when you're older).

OKAY ALIX:

Don't wash your face CONSTANTLY. This could end up drying your face, making breakouts worse. Once a day with mild face wash should do it.

If you have REALLY bad acne, see a derm. Oral medicine work wonders.

OKAY ALIX:

I shampoo my hair every other day.
And I condition every day with a quarter sized amount of conditioner. It keeps my hair really soft and pretty.

Also, use a wide toothed comb when your hair is wet. Brushing it can pull out any curls you may have and break your hair

If you're putting your hair up to go to bed, use a scrunchie because it causes the least amount of damage.

Putting egg in your hair increases shinyness.

If you have split ends, GO GET YOUR HAIR CUT. The longer you wait, the more you'll have to cut of in the end because the hair will continue to split.

For when you do the split end stuff, Higher end conditioner and shampoo are almost always worth it, However if you can't affford it, invest in a deep cleansing shampoo to use every once in a while
fishinginthesea: To get rid of all the residue left behind by the cheap crap

Alexandrasaurus:

Your hair texture will change quite a bit in your lifetime.
if you can, air dry your hair instead of towel-drying it. towels rough up your hair and can cause damage.

If you must blow dry, wait until your hair is damp or BLOT with a towel instead. usually i wring out all the water, then scrunch a towel over it.
also don't blow dry on the highest setting. if your hair is slow to dry, do it in sections on low/medium setting.
if you don't care about damage, then go for it bro.

Brass Knuckles:

Try to put a deep moisture masque on your locks, makes them very shiny and soft.

Straightening tips: put a moisture lock serum in your hair once you get out of the shower and let it dry, i use a combo of Keratin serum (fancy salon moisture lock serum you can get pretty much the same thing at a drug store though), anti-frizz serum, and flexible hold gel use tiny bits of each or your hair will look greasy.

Always apply a little bit more moisture lock serum before you straighten.

NEVER straighten your hair wet it WILL fry even if it is A LITTLE WET

ceramic straighteners are best (if you don't have one it's ok though)

Aniconda:

I usually find it annoying to curl my hair when I'm crunched for time. Sometimes, I use my straightener instead of my actual curling iron to curl my hair. You just wrap your hair around it one full rotation and pull down. It's a lot faster than using a curling iron but you won't get as precise of ringlets.

Spastic Waffles:

Air-dry your hair as often as possible. If you must blow-dry, do it on a cool setting. It takes a bit longer but will dry out your hair a lot less.

Never straighten your hair when it's wet. Not even with those "wet to straight" straighteners.

Summer_Night

Spray holding hairspray on your hairbrush, then brush again (after getting tangles out) to keep it from being frizzy.

SWFT WLF:

If you have hard-to-manage hair, namely if it's curly, one of the best things you can do for it is straighten it at least 2-3 times a week with a straightener, a water-sprayer of some sort, and a flat comb. This also helps if you ever want to even out your bangs, or pre-stretch some hair for bleaching (but not dying; most dyes come off in hear without at least a 5-10 minutes of binding to the hair).

Morde:

If you have curly hair, to help with frizziness and/or dry ends, the best thing to do is use leave-in conditioners. I'm a fan of Sunsilk's products, but the Herbal Essence stuff I've tried works pretty well. However, if you want to take the expensive route, use Biosilk's products. The samples I've used are miracle workers.

Cookie Pixie

Try not to use a shampoo/conditioner (2-in-1) deal. Use your shampoo first, then a leave-in conditioner. Leave it in while you soap up everywhere else and rinse it out last.

Towel-dry hair as much as possible before hair-drying.

Hair-dryer on highest setting to blow around hair. Keep it moving.

Don't fully dry hair - a little damp is fine. Drying it completely will dry it out.

I've heard on the grapevine that after all the hot air, a blast of cold will help seal roots and prevent damage. Or something. Since my hair dryer doesn't have a cold setting, I can't help you there.

Quaint Ethos:

I have bangs, and they can get gnarly pretty fast...
I find that if I keep the hair off my face (put a headband in, clip them back) it helps a lot.

Tsuki_san:

For oily hair, your best bet is the baby powder/whatever other method truly works. You can try tying your hair away from your face at night while you sleep, that's where the greasy fun usually begins. I used to shampoo just my bangs over the sink and dry them out -- they would be clean and the rest of my hair would look nice (it was clean too, just not greasy like my bangs!) Try blotting your forehead if it gets oily, so you can stop it from getting onto your hair. Don't touch your hair a lot.
Try rinsing your hair with cold water before you get out of the shower -- it sort of acts as a "pore closer"; when your head is warm, the oil produces more quickly, and it also locks in moisture. :3

Donde Esta Mi Gato:

Holding your belly in all the time will eventually make your belly firmer.

Sors:

Also here's something you might want to keep in mind. Most doctors say you should only get 20-25% of your diet from fat calories. So when you pick something up do a quick calculation of the fat cals/total and see if it's in range.

Also take sugar over fat! Here's the reason why. Glycolysis (burning sugar) yields 38 ATP(energy) per molecule.
Beta Oxication of Fatty Acids yields 113 ATP and then you still have to consider that we animals store fat as Triglycerides which means you have three fatty acids in each triglyceride.
So that means it's actually 339 ATP.

Tsuki_San:

Drinking three cups of green tea a day helps you lose weight.
But be careful, it's caffeinated, so you might want to choose the time of day you drink it wisely. :3

Little things help. If you ever eat pasta, opt for a tomato sauce rather than a creamy. Try to avoid cakes and sweets during the week, but give yourself a nice slice/dessert on the weekend. Try to avoid fatty foods, like burgers, pizza, or anything else that's a bit oily. Portion control is key! Try to eat at least 8, very small meals a day (of course, breakfast, lunch, and dinner can be a bit bigger than the rest.) For example, eat breakfast, then snack on a granola bar, or some nuts, or a fruit. Then you can have lunch, then have a few more snacks, etc. This honestly helps your metabolism go. Honestly, if you like healthy food, then you're set. I know it seems like a while, but I went from 145-120 in two years, by strictly cutting down on meat, fatty foods, and adding lots of tea to my diet. I didn't even exercise (though I have been doing yoga/pilates lately so I can tone my body!) Green tea works wonders, and honestly, to me, it doesn't taste bad. <3 Rice-cakes, popcorn, celery+peanut butter, and berries are nom-able snacks. For breakfast, you can even make a parfait! I eat that quite often; layer your favorite fruit yogurt, then your favorite granola/cereal, then your favorite fruit. I like to make two-three layers of each; I make it in a cup, 'cause that's about the perfect amount. It's SO GOOD, it literally tastes like dessert! All in all, consider and weigh your options when you eat; make sacrifices if you must, it's not that horrible. If you're planning to exercise daily, then food isn't really a big deal. But if you're too lazy to do much (like me), then focus on getting your health in good shape!

Squee Choo.:

If you actually decide to go vegetarian just for a diet, please keep in mind that you can actually gain more weight. Don't substitute meat for chips and cookies. A good burger substitute would be Boca Burgers, before I went vegetarian, I preferred that. Also another thing, if you're just going vegetarian to take off a few pounds, just cut the beef, eat fish for the protein. Also please note that things are derived from beef are not vegetarian-friendly, such as yogurt as well as some cheeses. Also be sure to just around and ask, there are a lot of things you can eat even at fast food places. Like Taco Bell is pretty vegetarian/vegan friendly, their cheese isn't derived from meat, but please note that their sour cream is.

Itinerant:

Whenever you're hungry, grab a piece of fruit instead of snacking on chips or something with high fat content. Eat lots of fruit to help keep your weight down and your skin clear. All those yummy vitamins. ;D

Valis:

This is a good weight loss tool. It creates a healthy diet and exercise plan for you and has tons of little features. It gives you balanced meal plans and recipes or you can put in food you ate. Plus it links you to exercise videos and estimates the calories you burn from doing them. Its really helpful and a good way to make sure you're staying healthy while trying to lose weight.

Sonnenblume:

stack up some books, with a pillow/something soft on top, about 9-12 inches off the ground. start in a push up stance, then go down to your elbow, elbow, then back up, hand hand, elbow elbow, hand hand, elbow elbow, hand hand. Do it like 15 times, and then switch so your OTHER elbow/hand goes down first. get a basket/soccer/idgaf ball (lol not tennis, base, or soft) and do a push up with the ball under one hand, then switch it, then do a push up, and switch it, and do a push up.. etc on that same stack of books, sit your a** down. place one hand beside you to support yourself, and the opposite foot of that hand stays planted/bent on the ground. (let's say it's your right hand and your left leg) The, bend your left arm behind your head (YOU'LL BE DOIN SITUPS, ASSUME THE POSITION) and bend your right knee up to meet your elbow. You'll turn a little to meet eachother, awesome super. Do this until it hurts, and then do five more. Then switch."unbalanced" work-outs are probably best. I'm supposed to do 45 of this s**t, and 30 of cardio 3 days a week, and then some other fourth day of the week do 60 of cardio.

Marzipancakes:

I kiiiind of did food journals when I was 15 (not like this though - before it was just me writing what I ate and completely estimating the calories), along with basic exercising, and I lost 40 pounds at some point (I didn't really notice when it happened) within a year.

Le Raven

It takes 20 minutes for your stomach to tell your brain that you're full.
So if you eat slow you'll avoid over-eating and bloatyness :3

Sors:
Also for weight loss stuffs I really like the Eat This Not That books. They have a lot of really good info in them and are updated every year.

Sors:

Wearing two shades of eye shadow to give depth to my eyes.

B u b b y:

When in doubt for makeup; go with natural tones.

Unfathomable:

Uhm, if you fail at eyeliner and mascara you can basically just slop it on without any regard to how it's looking, and then perfect it by rubbing of excess with a q-tip dipped in lotion. ;D

Drakie Cakie:

If you have hazel eyes, don't wear blue eyeshadow. Go brown and pink.

Use eyeshadow or powder foundation around your eyes before applying pencil eyeliner. It'll keep it from smudging throughout the day because you body exudes oils and sweat, so the dry powder will make it last longer without squishing between the folds in your eyelids.

SGT Baker

Rubbing ice over lipstick helps it stay on longer and not fade.

Aniconda:

I used to curl my lashes after putting mascara on. Instead, put your lash curler under your blow dryer for a couple seconds. Then (first, make sure it's not hot~!) curl it and finally put mascara on. It works a lot better. Oh and when you curl, curl from the base, repeatedly curling outwards.

Sonnenblume:

your eyeliner shouldn't be darker than your eyebrows, I understand some people "pull it off" but you probably cannot, don't try.

when it comes to high-end make up the only thing that really matters is eye liner (the pencil kind). the more expensive liners have the better waxes that glide on smoother.
mascara "formula" doesn't make a difference, it's all in the brush shape.

"bare minerals" is only good for covering up like rosacia. if you have any bumps it seems to magnify them.

idk what that drunk whore is talking about, you want to use high lights, not shadow colors under your brow and on your tear duct. like a pearl or a light silver, and blend it in a bit no blunt lines or you'll look ******** ridiculous.
makes your eyes look a lot more awake and happy.

If your eyes are looking particularly sleepy, put a slightly lighter than flesh neutral shade across the entire lid. it's a small effort, but usually can make a big difference.

When you're putting cover up on over your dark circles, don't follow the curve. place a littttle dab right near the duct, and then kind of dot it out straight line between your eye and nose like / nose then keep dabbing until it's blended. It won't make the light reflect in the same way, it'll be better covered up.

Vitamin Crack:
Vaseline on eyelashes for longer lashes. I applied it at night and then slept with and by morning it was like wearing mascara. I was mega skeptical of this at first but it totally works. Some people get mixed results, and sometimes it takes a while for you to notice any difference.

OKAY ALIX:
Primer is God. If you don't have/can't afford primer, use chapstick or put a tiny bit of hairspray on your finger and apply onto eyelid. This gives the pigment something to hold onto.
Cross-check all make-up at makeupalley.com

Just because you have blue eyes does not mean you are entitled to wear blue eye shadow in the EXACT same shade, blue eyeshadow looks tacky on like everyone. However NAVY eyeliner is really nice on blue eyes, and stick to lilacs and purples. If you have warm skin, and blue eyes you're ******** Just wear brown.

If you wear glasses ALWAYS use under-eye concealer.

White or peach eyeliner on the waterline can make your eyes more awake.

Randomly Greek:

I use lotion instead of eye make up remover. A) Because I'm a badass. B) Because its better for your skin C) because I don't have eye make up remover. D) IT MAKES MY EYES SMELL FANTASTIC!

MISC. INSERT SUPER COOL BANNER HERE LOL

Nails:

OKAY ALIX:

You get what you pay for in terms on nail polish. Personally reccomended are OPI and Essie, two coats with no top coat and they'll go at least three days no chips. China glaze is a slightly cheaper alternative But it's a bit thicker formula.

Peeling nail polish off KILLS your nails, don't do it. Same with acyrlics and gel nails. They are HORRENDOUS for your nails and unless you keep up with getting them filled, don't go near them.

As for doing your nails, cut in three parts, on the sides then in the middle. Then file, ONLY IN ONE DIRECTION. NOT BACK AND FORTH. Filing back and forth can split the nail.

To stop biting your nails. There are tons of bad tasting nail polishes out there. What worked for me was getting a manicure (and I bit my nails for 17 years.) every time I would go to bite them I'd be like "NOPE THIS COST MONEY" after that it was just painting them. DONT USE ACRYLICS AS A WAY TO STOP BITING YOUR NAILS THOUGH. They just kill them.
