Okay, so in band right now we are playing this song by Gustav Holst called second suite in F. According to my bd, it is a very poular piece,a nd fairly difficult. If you haven't heard it, I'll post it below. It has four movements. My favorites are the first and fourth. I can't tell if the arrangment I am posting here is the same as ours. the difference would be a clarinet solo in the second movement, which in other arrangements is an oboe solo. i love it though, and I wish I had first so I could play the solo cry Movements 1 and 2Movements 3 and 4Movement 3 is alright, movement 2 is downright beautiful, and the first and last are pretty and fun.

We're playing that too. We probably suck more than your band does though.

We are actually doing pretty good, seeing as we have only played it about 4 times and are already on the nitty gritty details, which means we have rythms and nootes down, we are just woking on making it interesting.
We are still working on the third movement, though.

Never heard of it... But I have played the 1st. It's one of the favorite pieces I've played.

System.out.print(" I played that in high school... the second movement will forever be my favorite even though 3rd horn didn't play then. <3 Unfortunately, your links are gone. Try these? There are a couple different bands that played/uploaded it. http://www.soundclick.com/search/main.cfm?realm=2&searchterm=second suite in f (if you sign up, some of the bands allow you to download... and I think it's less illegal)

We played it for county honor band! :]
And in the veteran's band I go to, one of the pieces we play is its predecessor, the First Suite in Eb. =P

We sight read it at the beginning of marching season. I was 7th horn (moved up to 3rd; ee!!!), so I was on 4th part at the time. We never ended up playing it, which disappointed me because I really liked it. When we first got it, I didn't bother to look at the title, just saw 'HOLST" and freaked because I thought we were playing a piece from The Planets suite, my favorite composition of all time.

Oh my god I just love that song. Our band did that last year for the big band festival in idaho. It was amazing, we won first place. We did not to the third movement though, just the first, second and last. I have it on my phone, and it's impossible not to smile when listening to it. Plus, I play bass clarinet, and I got melody several times. That like... never happens. So yay. It is such a fun song. I love it. <3
