Realistic Weapon Handling

Like all roleplay, realism and specific rules are always something that's beneficial to a player. Because of the high use of modern weaponry and integrated technology with forces, learning to use your weapons at hand can be a very important thing. In this manner, it is appropriate for someone to practice solely their weapon abilities. Although this is NOT a testing area, I will pitch in with ideas every now and then to help improve the realism of your roleplay.

GENERAL OUTLINE:

KK, so now you can get out of a bus. Whoop de doo. When does the fighting begin? Well, the fighting begins as soon as you enter a battleground. Between these times however, learning to understand basic weapon skills, such as how to adjust a scope, actually learning to adjust a scope, understanding how the entire cartridge-bullet-propellant works, how explosives work, how grenades work, how armor piercing rounds, explosive rounds, incendiary rounds and even how body armor works. Obviously, understanding the basic ways to load, 'c**k', and pull the trigger of the rifle will establish you as a good role player.

As well, you never hit a target. You aim, point the end of the rifle at the target (barrel, end of rifle, etc.) and then pull the trigger. This allows you to not godmod, yet still squeeze off a large amount of rounds in the direction of your fellow roleplayer, possibly harming them.

Also, the mechanics of a shotgun, or a rifle, or a submachine gun, or a machine gun will be explained.

OVER-ALL MECHANICS:

First of all, guns don't shoot. Bullets do. Second of all, bullets work by a complicated yet simple manner.

Bullets work by having a cartridge filled with propellant that explodes and then puts a large amount of force behind a bullet. The gun, and more specifically the barrel, directs the bullet down a path, and most modern day bullets incorporate something called rifling to help increase the accuracy of the bullet. This essentially gives spin to a bullet, forcing energy onto the bullet that actively causes it to stabilize in the air, instead of simply having lateral, or linear energy.

Just as a general note, rifles shoot single bullets, shaped and pointed to provide accurate, single shots downrange with a large amount of power still behind them. Shotguns shoot out several pellets of varying size, that generally do a lot of damage at close range but lose their energy due to their spread and size at long range.

Cartridge.
Bullet
Gun.
How guns Work.
Rifle.
Shotgun.

Remember to roleplay the cartridges exiting, if your gun uses cartridges (most do) and replacing your magazine with another, such as in reloading.

-Point the end of the rifle
-Pointed the end of the Barrel
-Aimed
-Positioned the rifle in the direction of the target
-Positioned the rifle accordingly
-Aligned the sights
-Aligned the scope
-Aligned the sights/scope accordingly

When firing, you can say a number of things, such as-

-Pull the Trigger
-Squeeze the Trigger
-Constrict the Trigger
-Moved the Trigger backwards
-Exerted 2.5 pounds firing force on the trigger
-Exerted force on the trigger, causing the release of the hammer

When shooting, you can say a number of things such as-

-An explosion exited the end of the barrel
- Fired
-The bullet passed the length of the barrel
-The bullet exited the barrel
-The bullet exited the gun
-The bullet moved accordingly to the barrel of the rifle
-Shot the bullet
-Fired the bullet

When adjusting the scope, you can say a number of things, such as-

- Adjusted the scope
-Shifted the scope accordingly
- zoomed in the scope
- Zoomed in
- Moved the Telesopic sights X mil-dots.
-Positioned the scope in the direction of the target
-Adjusted the scope in the position of the target
-Shifted the scope in the position of the target
-Zoomed in accordance to the position of the target

When the bullet leaves the barrel, you can say a number of things, such as-

-The bullet flew through the air
-Bullets sprayed all over the target
-A number of bullets exited the rifle
-The bullet barreled down the path of it's target
-The bullet zoomed down the path of it's target
-Bullets danced around the target
-Substituting 'bullet' with 'lead'
-Substituting 'bullet' with 'slug'

EXAMPLE
Commnader Crowbar

Grant lay prone, sniper rifle in hand. He calmly and slowly zeroed his sights on a target not more than one hundred yards away. Taking a deep breath, he did a final zeroing down the scope and gently pulled the trigger.
The round exited the barrel with a small flash and a loud BAM!
He quickly exhaled, satisfaction growing within him. He had hit just off the circumfrence of the center circle of the target. Maybe, he pondered, I'll try for another fifty yards. See how accurate I am then. He ordered for the target to be set out fifty yards further back.

((That... sucked. That wouldn't pass for normal battleground training, ever.

Okay I take it back- it didn't suck that bad, you had good spelling, grammar, things like that. What you did wrong was speedhacking and lack of details. You basically loaded a gun (I don't know what gun), pulled the trigger, had the bullet go down the barrel, and hit your target in the same post. You also failed to post adding a clip, loading your rifle, checking your scope, aiming, opening up the breech, and to check to make sure everything was in alignment. If I so chose to, in the middle of a combat situation I could choose to point this out, disregard parts of your post, and then shoot at you. You'd probably fail again, and then I'd kill you.

so... practice. Make sure to pull back a small metallic device at the end of your gun, this of which opens up the breech and lets a round in. Be sure to add your magazine into the gun, with the CORRECT kind of ammo your using. Be sure to put the magazine into the gun first, or the clip, or the ammo holding; or even just the single round. This entire proccess is known as loading- as long as you post the complications in your first post, and designate this as 'loading' (with quotes around it) for the next couple of posts you can say 'load'. This is also, essentially, 'cocking' your gun.

Secondly, you can only load, c**k, and aim in the same post. Then, once you've done that, you can essentially aim more while adjusting your scope, pull the trigger, and then insert a random related action. After that, you may fire, this of course being roleplayed as the bullet exploding, going down the barrel, and being launched at your enemy. Your enemy then decides if they are hit.

Thirdly, all your said was 'sniper rifle'. What kind of Sniper Rifle? What kind of scope? What kind of ammunition? What model? Any modifications? What are some details for your gun, essentially. Instead of having to post a three page paragraph on the abilities of your weapon, post a link to a previously created weapon and give the name of it inside your roleplay. Instead of having to explain three pages worth of information about ammo, post a link to your ammo.

This is all very important things; and you missed every single one of them. Be sure to roleplay again; with what you have learned. You are not a marksmen, so I don't expect you to be one, but if your going to try to be I still expect you to know what your doing. ))

[]Wrong. Guns and Bullets don't kill people, people do. The same way Hammers don't nail things, people do. And cars don't crash, people do.

That said, what's the purpose of this thread? Testing our RPing abilities with guns?[]

((Not testing, but teaching. In case you don't know, or just to brush up in between actual roleplays, you can shoot at an invisible target of choice here. If you don't know how to work a gun... here's the place! ))

Kuro lines himself for a shot at his target which was located a good distance away infront of him. He draws out his gun and aims it at the target with his finger resting on the trigger. He gently pulls down on the trigger and fires two rounds at the target. The bullets exited the gun and barrled down the path of its target. He quickly loads two rounds into the gun and fires. Both bullets exit the gun and barrel down the path of its target hitting it with sheer force.

((Guns don't kill people, but they help. You can't just go up to a man, point your fingers like a gun, say "Bang" and expect them to die. Having a gun and firing at someone is a lot different than not having one.

What really kills people when guns are concerned is blood loss, hydrostatic shock, lead poisoning, lung collapse, your heart exploding, or getting shot in the head and the brain getting totally blown to bits. Same general idea with car crashes, but with different causes of death.))

Guns don't kill people. people kill one another. Most of them are driven by rage and desire. The desire to eradicate those who stand in theri regardless wether they are friend or foe.
