Have you ever wanted to make something cool Transformers and yet practical for a friend?
I love Transformers, but to find those things like
umbrellas and
lamps they are far too expensive for my budget.
Wanting some cool things I headed towards my nearest Wal-mart and have some suggestions of with what you can get started with.
Premade far too small for a normal sized pillow will need trim for this one
This fabric is awesome
Stencils were made by putting rough plastic in the printer, cutting out the parts then painting it like a stencil, if you use
shrinky dinks you later then can have a cool keychain or phone charm to give to someone. =D You can also use the cut out parts shrunken down to create a stamp with foam as a backing.
Awesome lets get started.
Pillow1/4 yard of fabric or pre-made fabric structure
Two Eight inch width strips of SOLID contrast fabric.
The length must equal double the width of the pillow you wish to cover.
If you don't want to think that hard just measure the fabric of 1/4 yard
Turn your fabric inside out.
It's a rectangle if you mess it up, I'll disown you.
Sew, or get someone else to sew and finish, the length of the fabric leaving it opened at the end.
Next fold the eight inch fabric in half and so the ends together so that it make loop of fabric that uh.... is a loop of fabric.
With the main pillow case right side out and the loop inside out and the fold facing downwards sew the two edges together BUT DO NOT. I REPEAT DO NOT sew closed the opening in the pillow case. Pins are very useful in this situation.
StencilsI used these on towels but you can use them on ties and anything with a flat (not suede or terry) cloth surface. Just follow the instructions said before and go crazy.
OrnamentsThese are harder to do as you do have to have some sculpting ability. Just get a clay that can harden in an oven or kiln and begin.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO MAKE 2000's ERA TRANSFORMERS UNLESS YOU ARE A GOD, THEY SCARE SMALL CHILDREN.
Arms should be more square, and thin at joint lines and heads must be stable enough to be lightly drilled so that a wire can attach itself.
You want it in an action pose always attached to other parts of the figure. Optimus in a thinker's pose, Ratchet lying down with a rose in his month. Sunstreaker polishing his own foot.
Those kind of things.
It makes the ornament lighter and easier to hang and easier to paint. I don't suggest getting colored clay unless you are completely useless when it comes to modeling. The colors tend to bleed and black makes everything look unsightly.
Tools you might want: toothpicks, paintbrushes steel wool (for textures) and small metal tools (like screwdrivers and such to flatten out surfaces.
If you would like pictures or need help with anything I can help you. And if you want something to be clarified I can do that too, any feedback is helpful.
Also if you girls want me to teach you how to make an AWESOME Transformers jacket that's pretty and sweet looking I can put that up to but it's only for those who know how to make darts and things like that.
