No, this isn't a rant fuelled by my own personal testosterone levels, it is a rant at a personal discovery made of my own personal testosterone levels.

I mean no offense to anyone at all, anything I say is purely about stereotypes, not individuals.

A stereotypical "manly man", or "meat-head" as a lot of people would say, stereotypically has a low-pitched, gruff, gravelly voice.

A stereotypical "effeminate" man (not my most favourite of words, but it is the only word appropriate for my rant, please do not take offense to the word, as I mean it purely as a word, not as a comment) stereotypically has a high-pitched voice.

Remembering a certain episode of brainiac, it is possible to raise or lower the levels of testosterone in a man by making him do certain things. "Manly" things, such as lifting weights, getting lap-danced and...erm...primal screaming, raise the level, whereas "unmanly" things, such as knitting, reading and singning along to children's nursery rhymes and being spoken to in baby speach, lower the level.

I had accepted all of this previous knowledge (despite also knowing a certain rule which states that every rule has an exception which proves the rule is valid).

Yesterday, I went to the gym for longer than normal. Performed a more strenuous string of exercises than normal. I left with broader shoulders (albeit temporarily, as is usual when I do any kind of strenuous exercise) and a metaphorical bucket of sweat.

I then phoned my girlfriend. Her brother answered. He didn't recognise me immediately because my damn voice was deeper than usual. Seriously. What the hell?

So...anyone else know what I mean? Voice going deeper with "manly" things or even the opposite, voice going higher doing "unmanly" things? Seriously, I want to know. I mostly want to know because I don't particuarly want to associate myself as a freak whose voice changes when he goes to the gym for two hours...

No, that isn't what "exception that proves the rule" means. For example, "No parking on Thursday." The exception of "no parking on Thursdays" implies that every other time parking is allowed.
People using it to say that an exception to a rule only adds more evidence that the rule is true annoys me, because its stupid to begin with, but then they ignore exceptions.

I have no clue about the testosterone stuff.

I've always heard "the exception this DISproves the rule."

Whenever I go to the gym I feel REALLY aggressive and want to stab someone in the face and yell all deep and manly like at people and rip things apart mad Its actually really really bad and I wont go to the gym anymore because of it xd

I like to blame the testosterone because ripping and killing are usually seen as more manly. Especially since I want to kill with my bare hands and most women dont murder without a weapon XD I dont know if its true that its the testosterone though, but I dont get where you're coming from smile I dont know if my voice actually does get deeper though, but I feel like if I yell at someone it will sound a lot deeper.

lol, I was more in an "I'm rather freaked out" kind of mood at the time, so I thought I'd post. As for the exception to the rule part, I always take that to not really mean there is one exception and one exception only, it is that the most often reported cases are what the "rule" is and the individual things that disprove the "rule" are the exceptions.
