What Would you consider to be "Steampunk Music"?

To me, I have been sticking to Piano's And slow riff guitar.

I'm a big Indie Fan Is there anything out there for me?

I'm currently Obsessing on

I'll admit I didn't give them much of a listen to, but it just sounds like every other emo band to me. mad

Edit: In the Backseat sounds pretty. Should have her sing all of their songs.

Ahh I do love Arcade Fire! THough not all of their music. Just some.
Most.
Others get annoying.

I really liked the feel of the group Foals, and it gave me a sort of steampunk "feeling"- that one of fantastic release, you know?

You might like The Strange Death of Liberal England. They have had some Arcade Fire comparisons, one of their songs is even dark cabaret.

Some guy in the crocery store recommended the Arcade Fire to me a while back.
He said I looked like the kind of girl that would listen to it.
It was pretty good.
Sorry, that was pretty off topic...

For some reason anything with a cabaret feel. Vermillion Lies, Veronique Chevalier, the first Dresden Dolls album. Synthonym (myspace.com/synthonym) does some good stuff, it's industrial and still very much steampunk. heart Dr. Steel. 4laugh Some of Bjork's stuff comes to mind. Along the lines of Arcade Fire I suppose would be Snow Patrol, and some people consider Muse to be steampunk.

I think any band that uses instruments of the time period could be considered steam punk music. However, I don't see steam punk as a genre, but as a perspective. Folk, Cabaret, classical music, string instrumented alternative rock. Those genre's could be used.

Obviously, Abney Park uses Steam Punk as a back story to their music but Rasputina and The Dresden Dolls have more modern lyrics with non-mainstream instruments.

I would have to point out that Metric, and Phoenix are slightly Steampunk. Though not so much Metric, as more modern...but it certainly has that feel (like it would go in an awesome movie scene...with animation...and steampunkyness) Also, Silver Sun Pickups...though don't search their lead singer, then listen to their music. You'll never take them seriously.

Here is a group that calls themselves steampunk. They only have 2 songs out as of now but I quite enjoy them The Clockwork Quartet.

I would mention the band I listen to but it might start a fight.
