A cascading waterfall flows down into a deep pool before flowing backwards into a cave that rest behind it. The space at the bottom of the waterfall is a mass of trees that open to a beach on one side. This piece of paradise is Captain Kusari Korosu's training facility for zanjutsu because the four core elements meet her with the light and darkness and create a space of harmony. The warm breeze passes through the tree tops as the sound of waves crashing from both the falls and the ocean fill your ears. The light of the sun outside, and the darkness of the cave inside lit only by the dim glow of torches.

Kusari leaped over the falls falling and gaining speed before shunpoing at the bottom and levitating above the ground before dropping. He ignored the stairwell to the side entirely as he waited for his Second who had been left in the dust trails behind Kusari long ago.
((If you still want to learn rook, I can't actually give it to you until you master shunpo, but I can teach you pawn, knight, or bishop right now.
Oh, if I didn't tell you, Pharao said you could have shikai since I made you my LT, so we will be using shikai here possibly.))

Foust noticed his captain had left him with a dust trail and shouted,"Hey wait!" Foust jumped to the stairwell and started to jump down it. Skipping lots of steps with every jump, he got closer to the bottom. Finally he got to the bottom and ran over to his captain. Foust looked at his captain and said," Now that I have caught up with you, what is next? Zanjustu right? I can't wait this will be fun."
((Knight sounds good if that is ok. What about shikai? Are you going to teach me that here or something?))

((We are just going to say you already have it.))
Kusari smiled as he say his Second arrive, "Only seven minutes behind me, your getting faster." He sat on the ground, which was in actuality a large flat rock and said, "Straight to work then." As he motioned for Foust to sit across from him. He untied the sash holding his sword an laid it across his lap. The intricate artwork of the succubus design and the finger gauntlets on the sheath looked amazing in its sealed state. "As shinigami we have the fortune of taking a sword into a completely different form of weapon. The trick with zanjutsu is to mold your style to your weapon. Kokuangyo, my sword, become a double bladed sword that has an everlasting chain in the middle, but only a nine inch blade on either side and nearly two feet of hilt. This is a rather large problem that I needed to overcome and mold to my style as I learned zanjutsu, because I was like you once. I began with black and white bishop, then black and white knight, then black and white queen before learning the gray knight and gray bishop. Next I went with king, then pawn, then finally rook style once I was fast enough, then their gray styles before moving to the pentacle of zanjutsu Gray queen and finally my master taught me the Puppetmaster style before he left Soul Society and left zanjutsu training in my hands. Today I will try to help you carve your path, because after night I will require you to choose another so that one day if I pass it will fall to you."
He removed the blade from the sheath, it dropped into his lap as his shikai was slowly activated. The blades grew from the sheath and hilt, and as the sheath and handguard dissolved away the chain began to withdraw into the hilts until it formed a double sword. "I am sure you are familiar with the three types of zanjutsu, but if you need a demonstration I would not object."

Foust looked at his captain in amazement because Captain Korosu said Foust was getting faster. Hearing the complement made Foust feel like he is improving and that is what he wants to do. He sat down when his captain wanted him to and began to listen. As his captain started to teach his knowledge, Foust realized this is a lot to know and figures it is a good thing he has his captain to teach him.
When Captain Korosu activates his shikai Foust observes with shock and says,"Awesome! This is a catain's shikai?" Foust looks closely at the new weapon and realizes the difference from the sealed form. Captain Korosu asked Foust a question and Foust scratched his head as he tried to remember the answer. Then answers,"The three types are like special, expert, and master or something like that, right? What do you mean by demonstration?"

Kusari lightly smiled at the boys childish excitment over his shikai. "Zanjutsu is divided into three sanctums. The White styles are devastating, but are wielded with honor towards your opponent. The Black style is what most would consider dirty fighting. The final style requires knowledge of both of these forms, and one cannot truly be a master without knowing it." Kusari retracted the chain and stood up to walk to a tree, taking a stance like it was an opponent. "In a white style I would use my sword to attack my opponent." He lightly thrusted forward like he was attacking it. "No tricks, just the honesty of the fight, but in black style." Instantly he hit his hell to the ground, releasing the blade in his shoe and imbedding it into the tree before leaping up and stabbing the sword into it at about where a humans head would be. "Your goal is to deceive you opponent and dominate them. White style fighters kill with mercy. Black style fighters make the enemy suffer as much as possible so that they beg for death."

Foust looked at his captain with an understanding of the lecture so far. Now Foust found himself in a bind. He didn't know which to go with, black or white. Killing with mercy is nice, but killing to make the enemy suffer sounds useful. Foust looked at his captain and said,"Hm. I don't know which would be better for me. Can you help me decide? Like, what do you think would be better for me? Or at least which would you rather see me with?" Foust awaited captain Korosu's response while trying to think of which to choose.

"That would depend on the form your blade takes and its properties. An large earth based blade is devastating with black knight style, and a small one handed blade with kido type abilities is lethal in a white rook form. It is all very dependant on what you are fighting with Foust, so release your sword and come at me." He taunted the boy with his fingers as he waited to see the fear set in. "And that was an order. If you don't make me bleed its latrine duty for a week." He smiled as he said this knowing that it would never happen, but he needed something to motivate the boy and coax him into showing him his full potential.

Foust's eyes started to widen and he said," Oh no, not for a whole week. I guess I'm going to have to try hard to make you bleed." He began to look at his sword and thought to himself," I am still not that good at this, but I need to show the captain what I can do so far. I hope this turns out right in the end."
Foust stood up with a sigh and planted his right foot in front of him, facing his captain. He put his left hand on the sheath of his sword and his right hand on the handle. While starting to unsheath his sword slowly, he told his captain with a sincere tone in his voice,"I have not perfected my shikai yet, so please excuse anything that goes wrong." With his sword unsheathed, he removed his left hand from the sheath, and put it on the handle, right under his right hand. The sword was in a upward position and facing Captain Korosu.
Foust began to focus hard to get himself to stop being nervous at the time. It was time to show his captain his true swords. Foust said with a sincere tone to his voice he yelled," Let's show him what we can do, Arana." After saying his swords name, electricity began to flow down the blade and then instantly seperated into two blades that were identical. Both blades were now three feet long, and had no space in the middle of the blades. A little bridge of electricity flowed down the middle space that was missing on both blades.
((Please excuse the description of my shikai. For some reason I can't descibe it that good, but feel free to check my profile to see what it looks like, please.))
He looked at the amazing sight of his shikai and said," This is Arana. Now let's do this." Foust ran to his captain at a fast pace with his right sword ready to attack and his left ready to defend. He got up to his captain's left side pretty fast and jabbed at his captain with his right sword. His left sword was still being held to defend himself, for he knew his captain was much stronger than him.

((Yeah, so prewarning, I'm godmodding the ******** out of this post.))
Kusari pulled out the chain of his sword and abruptly shoved it into the hollow middle of the right sword before wrapping the chain around to the his right and looping it around the other sword pulling both together and yanking the swords from Foust's hands. He gently removed the blade and without a thought said, "White knight. These blades are absolutely perfect for it. These groves in the middle are perfect for locking up an enemies blade and bending it to your will Foust. Oh these are simply wonderful." His inner sword geek was coming out. "Yes, we can begin right away if that is the style of your choosing, but the choice is yours in the end." The boys blades had much potential, but the boy was in fact still a boy at heart, Kusari hoped that the discipline of zanjutsu would calm the boys childish visions and bring him into manhood before he ever had to see the bloodshed that was war. Kusari handed the swords back to Foust stating in a more serious tone, "Fine blades should you know how to properly use them." This was true of any blade though. "Though in the future I would suggest you wait on your opponent given the option, your best bet is to block their sword and force it downward while following forward with your other blade."

Foust was shocked as his captain managed to get his sword,Arana, away so easily. He started to watch his captain geek out over the awesome swords. As he stood there he tried to show know sign of depression, for deep inside he was bummed out. He couln't even keep hold of his own weapons. Training was a daily task for him and it obviously wasn't paying off. Although Foust felt sad inside, he did not try to show it on the outside.
His captain gave Foust Arana back, and he had decided to go with white style. Foust looked his captain in the eyes and said," Then, white style it is." He rested his right sword on his shoulder and held the left down by his side. Foust became curious about what would come next. He asked his captain," What next, Captain Korosu?" Foust was ready to be taught everything Captain Korosu could teach at the time.

A sly grin spread over the captains face. "Being without a sword is like being naked to most shinigami." The statement was rather vague, but the captain began to swing his sword at Foust. "Block it!" the swing was coming fast, but Kusari had faith.

Foust wasn't surprised that his captain was trying to attack him. He chuckled and picked up his left sword to block the attack as instructed. It wasn't too long ago that his captain said using the middle, empty space in the blades would be good for blocking. Foust was using that idea to his advantage. His left sword was brought up quickly, and his captains sword sank into the space in the middle of his blade. With the attack blocked, Foust pointed his sword to the ground to the left of him, thus pointing his captains sword downward too.(Because Captain Korosu's sword now stuck in the middle of Foust's sword it would automatically move with his sword.) Now, Foust was ready to defend himself with his right sword, just in case.

Captain Korosu smiled, "The boy learns quick, but." he thrusted two fingers forward into the lieutenants chest. "Bang, your dead." He removed his hand and his sword from Foust and took a step backwards. "You made two horrid mistakes. You didn't follow through, and you hesitated. Hesitation is the reason you died Foust. Had that been a byakurai, or even a Flash style punch, both of which you know I am capable of, you would be dead. Our squad is all about attacking with knowledge, and the more you know about your enemy, and the less he knows about you, the better off you are as well as you teammates. Keep that in mind in the future."
He held his sword out in front of him, resting on his palms, he turned his left hand over and gasped the hilt. "Place your sword where it was and show me where your other sword should have been, keeping in mind that Knight styles goal is to disarm your opponent of their weapons." He emphasized the last word and held the s longer than necessary.

Foust didn't really know where to put the other sword, but figured he try. He picked up his left sword and brought it up meeting Captain Korosu's sword. His captains sword basically sunk into the middlie of Foust's left sword. He pointed his sword downward and to the left, moving his captain's sword with it automatically. This happened pretty fast and it seemed like Foust knew what he was doing.
Then, he picked up his right sword, and stabbed at the chain. The chain rattled as it went down the middle of the blade as Foust wanted it to. Foust then, qickly twisted his right sword so that the chain would be stuck on it. He yanked the right sword to the left, pulling the chain with it. With both of his swords down to the left of him, he quickly pulled them further to his left so that he could disarm his captain. Foust wasn't for sure if it would work, but was still going to try it. He was just trying to do his best.
