So, there's a new cash shop item called Cozy Holiday Tree.Huh. Now... I guess we have a mystery on our hands. What holiday could it POSSIBLY be referring to? I mean, there are so many holidays that involve cutting down a pine tree, dragging it into your house, and decorating it with lights and tinsel and DAMMIT, IT'S CHRISTMAS! IT'S A FRIGGIN' CHRISTMAS TREE! scream *pant* *pant* Okay... that may have been a little unnecessary. But, seriously. It's a Christmas tree. It's always been a Christmas tree. Does it have ANYTHING to do with the christian religion? No. Is it blatantly stolen from Pagan tradition? Heck yeah, it is. But it's still a Christmas tree. It's a universal symbol of Christmas, second only to the fat guy himself. I have to admit, I'm pretty disappointed in Gaia for giving in to the whole PC movement and giving the Christmas Tree such a genericized name. What are your thoughts on the matter?

When I saw the name, I didn't even pay attention to it saying 'Holiday' instead of 'Christmas'. So I guess I don't really care all that much that they tried to be more PC. I mean, Christmas would still fall under the Holiday category.. >>;

Well, on the one hand, I'm in favor of recognizing different religions and their customs. On the other hand, a Christmas tree is a Christmas tree, and I don't see how calling it a Christmas tree would really offend anybody... overall, it cancels out to apathy.

I for I, am happy that they are trying to include more religions and cultures. Also, I didn't even bother the not placement of 'Christmas' tree in there. I mean, it's kind of obvious, so why not just cut it out? For once, X-mas is ok too. Holiday goes broader to all the customs so... yeah... we know that's for X-mas, no need to go wacko about it. Besides.. it's just a tree 3nodding

To quote the great Sean Connery, "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn." A tree is a tree. Hell, my dad's side of the family is Jewish, and even we use a friggin tree. Let's face it folks, today, unless you're VERY orthodox, xmas is not just a Christian holiday. Sure, there are people that make it all about Nativity and all that, but in general, xmas is simply a winter holiday where people give presents. Or at least, that's how my family views it. So yeah, call it whatever you want, in essence it's all the same.

You know what? I really shouldn't be upset about this.
As an atheist, I fully support the progressive de-christianizatin of Christmas.
...but it still seems stupid.

if you be my star... IDIOCY, I SAY!
wait, what are we discussing?
but yes, idiocy indeed. Of course it is a Xmas tree, next thing you know they'll have nondenominational fat men in red!
Which I wouldn't mind oh-so-terribly.
Although there will always be people that will be upset about something... If they really want to, they can throw a fit about the cross on the front of the vampire coffin. I don't see the need to worry about naming a GODDAM TREE COVERED IN TINSEL. although I appreciate the effort.
...I'll be your sky.

>.> Xmas? -_- Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't that started by someone who decided Christ had nothing to do with Christmas? (Christmas having been started in England by the Catholic Church as a day to celebrate Christ's birth.) For once I'm not seeing to eye to eye with Tim on this one. I agree fully with the disapproval of the renaming of a christmas tree, but like many others I didn't really care at first. Why? Because I thought of it as merely gaia naming their items how they want. Didnt hit me till later.
Sorry Tim but I don't think I agree with the dechristanisation of Christmas. Seeing as it was started by the Catholic Church for that reason. (The fat man was remade as a way to keep children nice all year long. As apposed to his more vulgar past.) They chose the day for two reasons. One to abolish the Peagan religion, Which still has a following to this day. And two Because it seemed like a good day being so close to the end of the year. But the holiday was meant for the "Celebration of Christ's birth" Thats why it's called Christmas, Christ's Mass. Like a church comes to mass. See it now? I'm open for debate on this if you wish it. Truly though Christ's birth was more likely in early fall. But the holiday was started before people looked back in history deeply. So the church chose Christmas.
Back on subject: I don't like the PC-ness but what are we gonna do about it? Gaia will be Gaia. And on this they probably won't budge.

I was actually more concerned with the other shiny new items to notice the name of a tree item. It's like looking into a pile of silvers, and seeing a large rock in the middle of it.

You guys do realize that they've always made a point of calling it X-mas instead of Christmas, right? Gaia's always tried to be PC. It just hasn't always been noticeable.

I know what Christmas is about. I just don't believe in any of it, any more than I believe in Santa Clause. It's still a great holiday, though! biggrin I enjoy the secular aspects of it... holiday cheer, family togetherness, gift-giving, good food, candy canes, the shiny decorations... So, I'm losing nothing if the entire holiday is secularized.

It is true that Christmas is growing increasingly secularized, despite its Christian origins... I would be interested in seeing the demographics on non-Christians who celebrate Christmas. (I guess I'm one of them, though I was technically raised Christian.)

I enjoy the niceties of the holiday myself as well. The tree thing still ticks me off though. Why do they have to be so politically correct here? I mean come on! Even WALMART sells CHRISTMAS trees......you'd think the gaia staff wouldn't have to lick the boot heels of some arrogant upper in order to bring in more users but.....I guess thats what they've decided to do. As was the anti tobacco movement so comes the anti affiliational holiday movement.
