12/22/2009: Val and Other's one year anniversary! Val proposes to Other, and Other informs him that she's pregnant. Exciting!
11/27/2009: Oh dear! Other finds out she's pregnant, but she's far too scared to tell Val!

Personality:
Often compared to a little mouse most of her life, other is an incredibly shy and quiet young lady. She's well-behaved, courteous, thoughtful, and extremely nervous...and sensitive. She refuses to pass negative judgments on people if she can help it, since everyone is obviously some way or another for a reason and there just has to be some kind of good inside them, and she feels like she'd be being mean if she did. It'd make her feel bad. She's a very nice girl, and it makes her extremely uncomfortable when someone isn't happy or she's being taken out of her comfort zone. On top of all that she's jumpy! You would think she'd be a librarian and now something as social as a waitress, but she specifically picked that job so she can get better with people! It's quite clear she's at least making an effort to be braver and not be startled by her own shadow, and from the looks of it she's slowly coming along? She's very gullible though, and she'll believe almost anything you tell her to be the truth, so be careful what you tell her...or not, I guess. The fun part about all this is every ounce of it is genuine and sincere, but unfortunately she'll try and lie if she thinks it's something that will hurt someone's feelings or she's just too nervous or scared to voice her opinion; she's really bad at it, though. Really bad. Getting the truth out of her is easy enough, at least.
Odd Tidbits: Her name and initials: Her parents were unmarried (And still are) when she was conceived, so they felt they were being funny when they realized that if they combined their last names together and gave the child a first and middle name that started with O it was like a match made in Heaven. The reasoning behind Other's first name is that her parents...thought she was going to be a boy. Turned out it was just a shadow in her ultrasound that made her umbilical cord look like something else. But because of this they weren't prepared with what to name her. They were able to come up with Olivia but they didn't know any other 'O' names, so they just threw out 'Other' much to the confusion of the nurses.
Overly shy and naïve: Other's parents didn't spend very much time teaching her how to deal with people, and she was left watching them live together as a couple, break up constantly to date other people and then get back together later; it's because of this she spent most of her childhood getting her social advice from television, movies, books and magazines but she could never quite got it. She lacked the confidence to be like the other girls around her. Being around too many people, regardless of if she knows them or not, makes her nervous and often uncomfortable. She usually deals with this by finding the silver lining or a distraction of some kind. She is also extremely gullible and naïve because her parents didn't teach her any better on their own, so she may just believe whatever you tell her.
Fears: The Basement, bugs/creepy crawlies, anything big and/or intimidating.
Issues: Stepping out of her comfort zone.
Aspirations: To become a well-known violinist, and a happy family with Val.
Short-term Goals: To be first chair for violin in the orchestra!

History:
Vionna and Guy met on a blind date set up by a mutual friend, and it was on that very first date that Other was conceived. Upon the discovery of Vionna's pregnancy the brand new couple decided they would try and stick it out together, moving into a nice three bedroom apartment and managing to stay together during the length of the pregnancy...for the most part. It doesn't help that Vionna's out of control hormones became Guy's first impression of his new girlfriend was that of an irate, very pregnant Italian woman. Their baby was told to be a boy, and Other was planned to be born Oliver Ophir Price-Sinclair, initials that spelled 'OOPS' because that was what the child was; it was something that amused them, they could only hope their child understood the joke. Unfortunately for all parties involved (Other included) she was born a girl instead of a boy, leaving Vionna and Guy at a loss as to what to name her. It had to continue to spell OOPS since now the initials would have even more meaning to them, but on the spot they knew of no 'O' names for a girl. They decided to use Guy's grandmother's first name for her middle name, but it was the only 'O' name they could think of, so in a moment of amusement they just put 'Other' for her first name...much to the dismay of the nurses and their doctor.
They raised her as well as they could, albeit they could have done a tad better, and while sometimes accidentally neglectful or just plain stupid they love Other dearly. Unfortunately they had a habit of breaking up periodically and dating other people while still living in the same apartment with their daughter, but at least they always made sure to have a babysitter...usually. Because she didn't have the best parents she grew up rather quickly, but only in the sense of taking care of herself; by five years old she could make incredibly simple meals for herself, though a babysitter was nice to have because they usually made much better food than she did. She was shy and timid in school, not knowing what to do when children would invite her to play with them...so she watched a lot of the usual children's shows when she was home, read a lot of her cute picture books, and pretty much learned her social behavior from them since she had no desire to emulate her parents; this may have led to her naivety and gullibility, as well as her strong desire never to judge anyone. At nine her parents agreed to let her play the violin, and since she was a very well-behaved young lady who didn't have much interest to go out at the time she took advantage of her time alone to play. Needless to say that at first they regretted the decision when they heard just what a violin sounded like when played by someone who had only just begun to learn.
It seemed that only when she was actually playing did she have any semblance of social confidence. Throughout middle school and high school she was still meek and timid, and very quiet. She did her schoolwork, she made friends, and she even had boyfriends...but she never got very close to them. Her biggest fear was that she could possibly turn out like her parents, and while she's always known she's nothing like them she still worried over the risk! So she never took it. Other would hug, she would hold hands, and she would even go as far as a kiss on the cheek or the forehead, but never any further. She was easy to please, for she's always appreciated simplicity as long as there is real thought put behind it, but unfortunately high school boys don't tend to stay with a girl who will only go as far as cheek kissing. Thus her life was never really anything exciting.
When she was nineteen she moved out of her parents' apartment and into a house of her own since it was something she always wanted; a two-story house with a yard, in a lovely little neighborhood, and everything she could call her own. Her parents decided they would pay for it themselves as an extreme graduation present as well as a congratulatory gift for being accepted to play her violin with the orchestra in Durem. Other has every intention of paying them back despite their protests that it was unnecessary, and got herself a job as a waitress as a café owned by a sweet man named Mister Klaus and his wife, Mrs. Klaus. She's determined that this must be Santa's dayjob when he isn’t making his list and checking it twice for good and naughty children around the world. She thinks a waitressing job will help her with her social awkwardness among other things.

Distinguishing Features: Walks with a Limp: His right leg is crippled and pretty much beyond further repair at this point. He walks with a rather heavy limp when not assisted in some manner by a cane. He has to attend physical therapy and take a regimen of theraputic pain medication at least once a day.

While he isn't exactly a social butterfly he isn't unfriendly either. He is friendly to others and even considered kind amongst those he meets and talks to. Though he treats others with kindness and respect he doesn't trust easily and tends to keep most at an arms length. Most people see him with a smile and despite his trust issues he is rather optimistic. He loves children and has an easier time with trusting them than he does adults. Val enjoys his privacy and tends to prefer to be alone and very rarely goes out in search of company of any kind. When he befriends people he is a very loyal and generous individual. Val will often speak out against ill treatment of others and if he is offended people will probably hear of it straight from him. He is blunt and straight forward and this could possibly be his flaw as well as a merit.

Moderate Social Anxiety: It is kind of hard to get Val to go out in public, especially after the incident which crippled his right leg. He takes anti-depressants for it and also attends a session with a therapist once or twice a week.
Piano Talent: Viktor was trying to give his son a more 'rounded' sort of life and thus made Valeri take piano lessons. Val didn't mind much and even had a natural talent for it which delighted his instructor at the time. He doesn't really have a piano of his own and thus the talent is pretty much hidden unless he has access to a piano with which to 'perform'. It's pretty much one of those weird and unusual things someone finds out about him when the time comes.
Pen Name: Gonzales Freedman: Valeri essentially took a dartboard, a list of names, and a set of darts. That is how the name was born. It amused him thus he kept it and then used that name to publish the book that would lead to a rather painful moment in his life. Not everyone realizes that Gonzales Freedman is him until he either tells them or they went to school with him and put two-and-two together for themselves. Since it wasn't in a 'good' part of his life he prefers to forget the name existed at all, though not all the forgetting in the world could change what had happened.

History:
Valeri was born in Gaia to Gaian parents whose parents had also been born to Gaians and so on and so forth. Valeri's birth was not unusual or remarkable in any way. He was carried to term and was born without complication. The most excited thing that happened to Valeri during his formative younger ages was that his parents had divorced. His father had decided to 'free' his wife from the obligations of their marriage. The father had gotten custody of him and Stacia, Valeri's older sister, and the mother had gotten visitations and the like. Both parents parted on fairly good terms.
It wasn’t until late elementary school that he had decided to pick up the pen and paper and began to aspire toward a career in writing. Valeri had always had a fairly vivid imagination and a way with words but it wasn’t until he was about to move on to high school that he had begun to have any sort of passion for writing in any way, shape, or form.
In high school Valeri had always had an odd sort of luck that got him into odd situations and discoveries that would likely be better left unsaid due to the very scandalous nature of it. While the lad was young he wasn’t necessarily stupid and had used much of these discoveries to his advantage via blackmail. Blackmail had lent him a nice comfy cushion to ride upon throughout his average high school career where afterwards he went to a community college taking small classes in graphic arts and design while he continued writing merely as a hobby.
During the last leg of his college career Val found himself facing a pretty steep loan that he needed to repay and instead of getting a dead-end job and working himself to death for the next few years he wrote a book under the pen name 'Gonzales Freedman'. The pen name was acquired via the help of a dartboard and a list of names. Val wrote a book simply entitled Guilty: How I Survived Gino High.
The single book had, amazingly, been enough to give him the money he needed to pay off college loan debt and live pretty well for a good long while, but little did he know that this one little book had set off a series of circumstances that would change his life, though not for the better.
He had known that the book would lead to a mass firing of a lot of the staff and thus Val had opted to publish to publish his book under the pen name he had created, but it was not enough to save him from complete anonymity. Many of the people had connected the dots and realized who was at the root of their woes and they promptly took it out on him mostly via death threats but nothing serious ever really came of the threats until one fateful day.
It had been a tough week for Valeri when the incident occurred that had crippled his leg and it had been a tough year for Mr. Klotz who had up until a year ago been teaching Algebra I up until the book came out and let his unsavory habits be known to the upper management of the school. Mr. Klotz not only lost his job but he also lost his wife, because she divorced him, and the respect and trust of many of his colleagues. The now defunct Algebra teacher had figured out who Gonzales Freedman is and then proceeded to plan the downfall of the one behind the pen name. Alas the best laid plans of mice and men often go to the wayside for after days of building up alcohol based anger Mr. Klotz couldn’t endure the embarrassment and rage any longer.
While Mr. Klotz drunkenly observed Valeri coming down the steps of the courthouse from yet another lawsuit and had been about to cross the street and the next thing Val knew there was a crazed man shouting obscenities from within a car that was speeding directly for him! No matter what Valeri did he could not dodge the car as it careened at him and eventually hit him causing him great harm before the car had a crash stop into the building next to the courthouse. Mr. Koltz ended up dying from the impact of going through his windshield as he had not been wearing a seatbelt while Valeri was severely injured and nearly died due to his wounds.
It was instantly diagnosed within the ER that Val's right leg would most definitely never be the same again...
His family and friends will often say there is a major difference between the Val that they once knew and the Val that now lives in his modest two bedroom apartment off of the income he now garners mostly from his career as a Web and Graphic Design. The old Val was a shallow, conniving, sadistic fellow that cared for nothing but Val and his own well being (it came from being the youngest and the only boy of the small family unit). The incident is thought of, by many, as the best thing that could have ever happened to Valeri for it had opened up something in him (despite the mental and physical challenges he now faces) and it had made him a better warmer person.

Miranda Jayne Stark
Happy, cheerful, and bubbly. Miranda was someone Val hadn't expected to come into his life at all. She is a child from a place called D-Corp. Her genetics are that of an Albino Labrat, and she has Hypothyroidism. Despite all these things Miranda doesn't let that keep her back and just keeps living life the best way she can. Right now the only real issue she seems to have with her thyroids is that she gets sleepy very easily and often need naps at odd times, but that is probably also a part of being a toddler in general right now, so who knows! She enjoys being outside and hates sunglasses. She's very simple to figure out and please because she doesn't want a whole lot in life yet. [Miranda's Journal: ♥]

Vionna Sinclair
An Italian woman who's really only Italian by heritage, for she's never been to Italy in her entire life, she is lively and stubborn. She has never been married and has no intention to ever be married to Guy despite their on-again/off-again relationship. Maybe one day she'll get married, but it won't be to him. Despite the fact her parenting skills have never really been up to par she does love her daughter very dearly, she's her only child after all! And she'll always be her little baby girl. Vionna's the more responsible (If only slightly) parent out of her and Guy. She does occasionally feel bad for how Other's childhood was what with her and Guy often splitting up and dating other people while living in the same household, but what's done is done.
Guy Price
Guy is younger than Vionna, but only by a few years, really. He has no desire to marry now, and he probably never will. The way he sees it? He's young, he's hot, and he's great in the sack so why ruin that by tying himself down? He's on the verge of the dumb jock stereotype, and is quite a pervert (He suggested a stripper pole be put in his guest room in Other's house; both she and Vionna rejected it immediately). At least he loves his little girl, accepting any request she asks of him if he can perform it. He's just a bit more foolish than her mother.
Ophelia Stark
Eccentric, Free spirited, cheerful. Ophelia is one of those oddly 'hip' women that always wear colorful clothing and rarely frowns. She is in her early fifties but behaves like she is in her twenties. She loves to travel and is constantly abroad. She had divorced from Viktor when Stacia and Val were young and hasn't remarried but she has entertained a lover or two and still does.
Viktor Stark
Hard working, stubborn, serious, and a bit of a pessimist. It isn't certain how or why Ophelia and he had met or even gotten married in the first place as they are so opposite of each other. He still carries a torch for Ophelia but he often hides the fact and prefers to see her happy rather than selfishly keep her locked away. Viktor is a loving parent and wishes nothing but good for his son and daughter. Viktor is currently unmarried and as of yet hasn't even dated since the divorce many years ago.

Stacia Conrad
She is often described as the 'watered down' version of her mother. Stacia has always been the protective big sister over her little brother and will likely tease him relentlessly the day he ever dates anyone or forms an actual family. Stacia is currently happily married and has two children of her own. Stacia is sometimes referred to as the quintessential mother and wife.
Clyde Conrad
He has the patience of a saint. He puts up with Stacia's occasional bouts of moodiness and deals well with the members of her family instead of getting frightened off by certain individuals (Ophelia). To him Stacia is the love of his life and he could not picture being with anyone else nor does he want to be with anyone else. Clyde is a contractor and runs his own contracting company that is mildly successful. He's pretty fun loving and a bit of a jokester.

Jordan Conrad
This is the first born of the Conrad Clan. Jordan is the average 12 year old boy. He likes his action figures, video games, and general boyish pranks (usually played on his younger sister). He takes a lot after his father and tends to go to work with Clyde and help out whenever the option is offered to him. While Jordan often teases his sister he would protect her (and his cousins) from bullies because as far as he is concerned family is important (besides only he is allowed to pick on them).
Emma Conrad
She is the youngest of the Conrad Clan. Emma is a girly-girl with slight tomboy tendencies when she feels the need to prove her brother wrong about what she can or cannot do better than him. She is about 8 years old and a fairly friendly girl. Emma has the temperament of her mother and actually enjoys helping her mother with domestic chores around the house. She enjoys when her cousin Miranda comes over because it gives her another little girl to play with (and boss around a bit because Miranda is younger).

||Home Description____________________
In a quaint little neighborhood in the area of Barton sits a cheery, two-story house. It was a bit large for just one young lady to live in, but it's perfectly fine for a family now. The first floor consists of the living area which the front door opens directly into, the kitchen, the dining room, a half bathroom and the door to the basement.
But we don't go in the basement, it's scary. Well...to Other it's scary. All that's down there anyway is the washer, the dryer and storage.
Beside the basement door is the staircase that goes, you guessed it, upstairs. Directly to the right is Miranda's bedroom and the nursery for the coming baby, originally they were guest rooms for Other's parents but the children obviously need them more. Across the hall from (Whichever kid gets that room)'s room is an office, mainly where Other keeps most of her books and things she has collected over time, and it has Val's computer in there now too. Next to the childrens' bedrooms is their bathroom, and then the master bedroom. Obviously this is Other and Val's room.
