Life for the beautiful Miss Adelle had grown so wonderfully boring until her college friend Maximilian reentered her life with a curious little companion. Now, the young fashionista scientist became a part of a plot quite thick and potentially prosperous. Perhaps she didn't seek the same results as her new partner in crime, but she was now on board for as long as he needed her. In fact, Professor X had started to become almost impatient and jealous in a sense of Y's little youngling. She was beginning to want one of her own.

On a rather dreary afternoon, after sketching and mix matching some textiles in her new office, Adelle kicked her feet back and stared over at the wall at some of the prince diagrams. With a sigh she grabbed a sheet of paper and started to draw a prince in an outfit that she would design for her own child if she ever had one.

"Hmm.." she started to think, (Wait... what would Max think if I.. asked him?) Her eyes ventured to the other diagrams again, chewing on the end of her pencil, habitually of course. (....Im going to go ask him.) And with that, Adelle arranged the sketches and such so that she would be able to flip through them quickly next time then left the room in hopes of finding Max not terribly busy. Her heels could be heard clicking down the non carpeted hallways.

As per usual, Maximilian was downstairs in his laboratory, scribbling out some notes, equations, planning formulas that he needed to use in the future which provided a quick band-aid of a fix to one part of the ecosystem's problem in case the Military came calling. Even a genius sometimes had troubles with his work though, and for what must have been the fourteenth time, the great scientist screwed the paper up into a ball and wiped it off the table.

Double-oh-one watched curiously from his tank, which was always besides his owner's workspace, allowing the Princeling to spy on him every so often, though he rarely did--Swimming was too much fun! Right now, he could see that the man was playing a game; Can't have been a very fun game, all he did was write something and add more paper to the floor, but at least he was being amused. The little Prince was floating there in the water, alone, and his master barely looked at him let alone played with him--swimming could only be fun for so long before the youth began to get lonely.

Max's sharp eyes darted to the tank as soon as the silence filled the air--he hated being watched while he was working, and the quick splash in the water and disappearance of the experiment suggested that Double-oh-one knew it too. He needed to get the thing a chewtoy or something.

Knowing where to check for Max first, Adelle navigated her way down to the lab with a stride in her step. With every collective thought of getting a prince of her own to dress up and entertain her Adelle's grin grew wider and wider. It didn't take long for the clicking of her heels to be heard from up the stairs, and the welcoming voice of the Lab greeted her. She knew better than to rush down and startle Max, so she made a very cautious entry, peeking around the corner to make sure he wasnt too concentrated.

"Maxy...?" she asked, though her eyes were no longer on Max, but on the tank that Double-oh-one resided in. "Do you mind if I come in and ask you something?" she checked, then stepped out just a bit further from the corner.

There was something annoying him. There was a clacky noise coming in from upstairs and his sensitive (and in his opinion, quite good-looking too) ears could pick up every sound, and it, excuse the expression, bothered the crap out of him. What was even more irksome was that the sounds were getting louder, their source approaching. Realising soon enough that there could only be one cause for the sound--a nice pair of heels on nice long legs that were attached to a nice young Adelle--Maximilian immediately fumbled, kicking the scrunched-up papers under his desk and whirling around in his chair, almost as if he were hiding the evidence of his research (after all, he hated people peeking at it).

Double-oh-one's senses were sharper than his master's and his eyes had followed that tapping noise until it were standing at the foot of the stairs, his large brown eyes peering happily at a kind, familiar face. It was hard to believe that someone who looked so motherly all the time could be in cahoots with someone like his owner.

"Adelle?" Max replied, that grin crossing over his features and his hands shuffling the papers on his desk, quickly closing them into his drawers and locking it with a small key. The scientist stood to his feet, leaning against the desk and nodding, "Anything I can help you with?" Undoing bras.. Sponging your back..

Despite his charming appearance and wonderful... ears, Adelle showed hardly any interest in Max when he acknowledged her entry. Instead, the young lady made a subtle beeline towards Double-oh-one's tank, smiling to herself and crossing her arms.

"Yes Maxy, you can, actually." she began, her voice echoing her high interest. "In fact, I almost feel like..." her sentenced trailed off as she knelt near the aquatic tank, leaning against the glass. An illuminated face peered in at Double-oh-one, and soon painted fingernails gently stroked the glass. "...you little guy.. aren't you just so precious..." Whispers emitted from Adelle, though perhaps not projectively enough to be heard across the room. She appeared to be deeply admiring the little prince in his world- so incredibly attached that... well she was going to ask something big of her partner.

Finally, she whipped around and almost glared Max down. "I would like to ask you to make me one of them," she said. "And I would like to spend some time with yours for a while too. I think that it would benefit us both if your partner had her own... experiment-" she hesitated to use a term like that in place of a child, but knew that the latter would be awkward. "-that way I have a live subject for Madexo design... and a friend for Double-oh-one..."

Adelle's gaze shifted to the floor, as she tapped her chin and grunted. "Jesus that is a mouthful. We need to call him something more traditional, you know?" she suggested. Maybe it was maternal instinct- maybe it was a sting at Max (surely not of course but still) that she wanted him to pay more attention to the creature. That, or let her do so herself which wouldn't be too bad of an idea. Essentially Max could be left to do all his busy research in peace while Adelle distracted the little chitlin with stories and playtime like normal children do.

Moments passed before more idealistic words passed Adelle's luscious lips. "Let's come up with a name for him. And if not, I'll give him a name. How bout something.... hmm... like Tibalt?" With that she shrugged and repeated the name to herself- hey, it had a good ring to it for the little runt. "Yea, I like Tibalt." By now it was no mystery that while Miss Adelle was easy to initially persuade, it was not easily malleable when she made a final decision.

A flash of--was it jealousy?--briefly swept over the scientist as she all but ignored him in favor of the experiment and he almost scowled, folding his arms over his chest and clearing his throat softly.

Double-oh-one's body dipped below the surface of the water, webbed hands pressed against the glass in front of her, his wide brown eyes blinking at the lady inquisitively. The Princeling knocked on the glass and blew some bubbles at Adelle--he liked this attention!! Then it was taken away from him, again, by his master. With a small pout, Double-oh-one sank to the bottom of the tank and watched quietly.

Maximilian almost shrank away when Adelle bore down on him like that and he gripped the table, having to restrain himself from pulling a face of disgust when she made her proposition, feeling as though he'd rather get fingernails pulled out than allow two of these creatures running amok in his laboratory once they grew to adolescent stage. This was just what he didn't need.

"Adelle--" he appealed gently, hands coming up to wring together in a bit of a pleading motion, but he couldn't get a word in edgewise. Though.. the woman was beginning to make sense, somehow. With another creature, Double-oh-one would be out of his hair and he wouldn't need to think of ways (or spend money on toys for him, heaven forbid) to keep the thing entertained; and minimize the possibility of splashing water onto his research notes when the youngster got bored and decided to spy on him. This could be useful...

"Him--N-Name--??" Max stuttered, as though treating the experiment as anything more than just that--an experiment--was completely beyond the scientist and he just couldn't wrap his head around it. Fantastic, she's treating it like a child.. he thought to himself, massaging his temple with one hand and staring thoughtfully up at Adelle. This was the problem with recruiting women, they were too... motherly. That, and the best thing about male partners were that Maximilian had no desire whatsoever to sleep with them.

Seeing the look of determination in her eyes, the great scientist relented. "Alright. Alright, fine, name it, smother it all you want, but don't go teaching it to call me... daddy, or something of the sort, okay?" Turning away, Maximilian moved to one of his cabinets and opened the doors with a bang rifling through a set of filled test tubes and withdrawing one with a small photo and species name taped to the outside. Hyla ebraccata. Striding back to Adelle, Maximilian was quick to purposely invade the woman's personal space, grinning and wiggling the bottle from side to side besides his head.

"Hourglass treefrog suit you, my dear?"

"We're calling him Tibalt from now on," Adelle began almost demandingly. "So you better refer to him as that or I will teach him to adore and cling to you." Her words were matched with a triumphant smirk, the kind of expression a spouse would get when knowing she was winning. Noticing Max's smart a** advance, she too made an effort to bother him back by leaning on her hip closest to him and bumping his own a bit. "Don't act so pissy about it, you're going to have to make more of them anyways," she said very prissily. "And yes, that is fine if it will be as cute and sweet as Tibalt."

With that, the scientist jumped in for a coy peck on Max's cheek, then swayed back over towards the tank to once more observe the little one swimming around. "When are you going to let him out of there?" she asked, and tapped the glass with the impatient roll of the fingers. "Sooner or later I will need to test the longevity of the Madexo material and we're not going to get very far if you're going to leave him in there all the time."

Once again Adelle struck hard with a valid point. At this point though, she hoped that she could get to spend time with Tibalt too as well as whatever her princeling turned out to be. She had always hated it when some clients never bothered to sit down with her over a cup of coffee or tea and she wasn't about to let Max's stubbornness restrain her from doing so with these experiments.

Adelle then made an indirect sting towards Max- "So, what do you think about that Tibalt?" she asked the little creature as if it could talk, actually looking back over her shoulder to sneer at her cohort. Heh, she was learning his buttons and exploiting them well. How typical of the woman.
PostPosted: Fri Nov 13, 2009 2:50 pm

Even though he had initially gotten a little bit more of what he wanted from Adelle, his eye twitched when she told him that he had to refer that thing by it's name and Maximilian rolled his shoulders, as though prescribing a name to the creature was some arduous task he had to go through on the path to success. Raising an eyebrow when she again left him for the 'baby in the bath tub', his features soon turned to a frown and he shook his head,

"Woah, hang on there, I'm still trying to wrap my head around "cute and sweet"," he muttered, following Adelle and leaning on the edge of the tank, watching Tibalt protectively scamper away to the other side. With a sigh, he turned to his associate. "Let him out how? He can't live for more than a few minutes without water, this is something you'll have to figure out yourself since I don't know what form of H2O supplements would suit you best."

Turning away from the tank and the ridiculous conversations the woman was forcing him into, the scientist strode to the desk and withdrew a small strip of glass from one of the draws, absent-mindedly working as Adelle kept talking. The glass soon dropped with a clink on the table and he nearly lost the vial too when she actually went so far as to question his relationship with that thing.

"Adelle." He growled softly, turning around to glare at her. "It--he--Tibalt--" (As if it were the most painful thing in the world to say) "--Can't even speak yet. He's too nosy for his own good and he gives me warts every time I touch him. There's not too much to say about that but 'thank the Lord that Double-oh-two isn't a cane toad'." She was pushing his buttons alright--Maximilian really needed a drink by this point.

"Woah there, buddy, I don't think you realize that this is your project. So as much as I'm willing to help you, you best realize we're still a team." Adelle laid down the 'law' after Max's continuous complaints. "In any case, it is your fault for choosing the cane toad species anyways, but Im not going to hold that against you," she said, though smirking knowing that she just did. "So start wearing gloves or something," and with that the woman put her hand to her hip and leaned forwards enough to plant a legitimate kiss on his lips this time- that is in hopes of calming him down a notch.

"Maybe you outta take a break for the afternoon though. You look like you could use it." Adelle then flicked him playfully before her clicking heels made their way towards the stairs. Before she would head back up to make herself some tea though, she glanced back at Max and smiled. "I'm serious though, understand?" -her figure disappeared behind the wall and could be heard going up the steps. "And be nice to Tibalt."

Adelle couldn't help grinning to herself as she trekked back up the stairs. Genuine excitement seeped from her pores knowing she'd be getting a little prince to call her own and to dress up... and of course god knows what other motherly, girly-a** things. Hopefully it wasn't a bad idea to be making her one that she would turn into something that could be regarded as equal to human.

His arms still folded, the scientist had little to say further on the matter of whose project it was--it was her bloody material he needed in the first place--so instead he pursed his lips, nostrils flaring like some sort of angry bull with more bark than bite. Or... whatever noise bulls make. Maximilian was about to open his mouth and tell her that since he didn't expect the experiment to survive that he didn't want to use up his best specimens to practice on but instead, his lips were met with Adelle's own and he almost fainted; For despite being so overtly sure of himself that it almost hurt, the genius hadn't been with a woman for... longer than he'd dare admit.

There was no way he was going to talk after that kiss, he just stared at the woman, gaping like a fish in water, now just simply trying to reason whether he had hallucinated from boredom or whether the woman had actually--

Agh, screw it. Watching her disappear up the stairs, his magnificent ears hearing absolutely nothing that was coming out of her mouth, Max slowly turned back to the vial on his table, sighing gently and contemplating his next steps. Snatching a sterilized jar off his table, he strode briskly up the stairs. Ah well, time for the fertilization part of the process.

----------------------------------------

Perhaps the greatest trouble for Adelle in waiting for her princeling to arrive was the fear that most parents tend to get out of self consciousness. It is the fear of not being loved by your offspring. Now of course Adelle was aware that she was not the natural mother of this creature, but at times in the few weeks she waited her mind conceived the idea that she was. Her paranoia was entirely built upon the time she spent daydreaming about her prince- whom which had yet a face or name... or even a body. An impatient young woman sat at her desk in her room, drawing faceless figures. Her computer monitor was frozen on an image of a hyla ebraccata and she even went as far as to print several references as if it was absolutely necessary that she memorized the amphibian, despite its erratic pattern. Adelle's eyes darted to her calendar then to the clock, making sure it wasn't too late to go nag her partner then stumbled out of her room.

Our young woman seemed to be incredibly nervous. She knew that asking incessantly about her princeling would cause Max great stress, so she tried to nonchalantly stop in the kitchen, (which we can assume is a great deal out of the way of her destination) and fix herself and Max warm tea. Hopefully the scientist would find the cup of tea relaxing next to an assortment of subtle naggings. Tonight Adelle was not wearing her loud high heels but a quiet pair of warm slippers. She could not be heard making her way to the lab in which Max worked, but when she reached the door and inputted her identity, she knocked gently on the door before descending.

"....Max?" she called softly from half way up the stairs. "You're down here right? Ive gotta ask you something- Ive brought tea." Accompanied with her was a strong smell of some sort of herbal tea, spruced up with milk and honey. "I hope you and Tibalt are fairing well-" she began as she entered the illuminated room in which they both resided. "-I just wanted to check in about.. about uhm.. well... my you know...?"
PostPosted: Thu Nov 19, 2009 2:36 am

Maximilian possessed no self-consciousness whatsoever when it came to evaluating his parenting skills with Double-oh--Tibalt. The only strand of self-consciousness the man actually had was brief periods in which he was aware of the creature staring at his papers behind his back and he wondered whether the Princeling could see any mistakes he missed. No, of course not, that notion was ridiculous. Luckily, during the past week, Max had been very distracted with his newest project, the one that Adelle pushed on him. Naturally, he wasn't too pleased with the added workload but he figured that since he was going to be expected to produce these experiments on a full-time basis soon, he may as well practice a bit more...

This time, Maximilian had experimented a little on the genes he inserted into the egg. Thinking that Adelle would probably mother the child so badly they'd end up completely useless for any forms of combat or hard labor, the scientist had allowed the genes for this creature to come primarily from its mother, a female Hyla Ebraccata. Not too sure about the outcomes of this experiment, he tried it out anyways, figuring that if he stuffed it up, it was something Adelle would have to deal with herself.

Wanting to further impress his partner with his ingenuity, Maximilian had opened up his glass workshop for the first time in years, spending a few hours and scrapping a few projects that didn't turn out right, in some attempt to fashion a 'carrier' for the egg. The man hated working with such fiddly things, and since the (frog) foot-shaped carrier was roughly half the size of a tube of lipstick, he had slipped up a myriad of times and there was about three vases worth of shattered glass all over the laboratory floor. Soon enough, though, he had created something beautiful. Modeled after the patterns and colors of the hourglass treefrog, with the soft, delicate plastic casing containing the egg set into the middle of the foot. With the quick addition of a pin glued onto the back of it, the brooch sat on his desk, next to stacks of papers while Maximilian silently recorded a few notes, unaware that his partner was 'prowling' around upstairs.

Tibalt, who was unaware of his new name change but anyways, was really excited that day. He could tell that there was the presence of another heartbeat in the room, another creature, and it was like him, not like his master!! Splashing around in the tank, he gazed eagerly at the pin on the desk (even forgetting the fact that the item on the table was shaped disturbingly enough like his own foot), barely noticing the death stares he was getting from his master every time water spilled over the side of his tank and onto the laboratory floor. Who could worry about such things when there was so much going on??

"Adelle." Maximilian stood, shuffling papers and turning around to face his associate, he smiled at the scent of tea that wafted through the air, stepping closer and taking a cup from her with a brief word of thanks. "It's finished," he announced simply, taking a sip and leaning in to kiss her cheek. Reaching back towards his desk, he picked up the brooch and moved towards Adelle to pluck at the chest of her outfit, quickly fastening the pin just above her heart and flashing her another smile.

"Be careful with it," Max cautioned, stepping back once more and folding his arms. "It's very delicate, both the casing and the egg--No hard knocks or you'll break it open prematurely, and don't yell, it can hear you. Keep it on you for.. you know, as often as you can. The more exposure it gets to the rhythm of your heart, the more obedient it will be when it's older. You don't want a rebellious one, trust me..." He had made this mistake with Tibalt, it was too late to correct it now, but at least he would only have one meddlesome boy running around the place and both under the care of Adelle. This was going to be easier than he thought.

Before Adelle could tell Max to enjoy his tea, she gasped at the brooch he brought to her chest, having to set the tea tray down on the desk nearest to them as she further examined the jewelry. "Max...." her face lit up in excitement, joined by a tiny blush on her cheeks."But of course I will be careful with it, it's absolutely precious!" Adelle's arms soon reached out and wrapped around the other scientist, giving him a gentle hug- that is a very loose hug as not to squish the tiny egg she just received. "Thank you so much." she whispered then stepped back.

Not another moment passed before the woman suddenly turned towards Tibalt, grinning. "Tibalt, you're going to have a friend soon," she exclaimed, knowing that Max would more than likely wince at those words."I bet you're as excited as I am, sweetie." After baby talking the creature in the tank, one would hope she would stop there, but instead, Adelle stepped towards the tank, careful not to slip on the water that spilled out the side."Look." she said and pointed to the brooch, standing within reasonable distance but not enough for the princeling to touch. Bothersome as Adelle's antics were towards Max, she didn't care.

"So-" she began, "Hows the tea Max?" Her violet hair swooshed as she whipped around and made a beeline back to the tea tray, having somehow forgotten about her own cup. "You know, we should have relaxing tea sessions with these boys and maybe they will learn to be kindly, mannered...uh... beings." At this point Adelle sounded absolutely mad. Her princeling hadn't even hatched yet and she already planned on stealing some of Max's time to have periods of family convention. In fact, Adelle would be upset if Max would be the loner that he seemed to be when raising these frog children became more of a hands-on challenge.

(Hands on... heh)
PostPosted: Thu Nov 19, 2009 8:14 pm

Refraining from a whole-body twitch that was working its way up his limbs, Max whirled back towards his desk so he could pull an exaggerated face of disgust (some adult he was) without Adelle's noticing. This was his fault, he should have made an uglier carrier, one that couldn't be called 'precious', shaped like a pile of dung or something like that. Realising that he had just been hugged though, the scientist split into a Grinch-like grin, contemplating for a second whether to con her into believing that he wanted to be the father of Double-oh-two and as such, he should have his chest pressed to her bosom as much as possible.

No, no, it was too obvious. His eyes returned to rest on his partner, but much to his dismay, she was again entertaining herself with that little creature of his, speaking to it as if it were a perfectly normal toddler, which was enough to make Max's boot crunch on the glass littered around his desk. Stamp stamp stamp! If only he could speed up the growing process, who knew how ugly the child would look when it was older. He bet that she wouldn't lie Tibalt all that much then!

It was that lady again! Tibalt eagerly swam to the edge of the tank, webbed fingers grasping the rim and pulling himself with his strong arms, wanting to peek his head over and get a closer look at the pin. The boy reached towards it, grinning in delight--then it moved away and the lady focused back on his master. With a whine, Tibalt jumped back into the tank and mooched on the bottom of it.

Sipping his tea quietly, Maximilian began to develop some sort of mental block towards the words Adelle was giving him, knowing well enough that it would take at least three military officials to drag him out of his seat to have tea-parties with frogs. The woman sounded positively batty.

"Adelle, be sure to bring the egg to me in a couple week's time--if it hatches and stays in its shell for more than a day, it will suffocate, understand?"

Despite the playful thoughts and plans of Adelle's, the woman halted her whimsical notions at the mention of the egg. "A couple weeks? Is... there any specific date you can give me?" she asked with a worried tone. "I don't want to mess up your hard work and destroy this precious little one.." having glanced down to the brooch and examining it once more. "Wh.. what if it hatches early or while Im asleep and I dont know?" the frantic woman continued to fret.

Adelle then began to wonder what would occur should she crush it in her sleep- that or if she was even supposed to wear it on her pajamas and night gowns. It was idealistic to her to get as much time with the little egg as possible, wanting a child that would adore her as much as she did towards it. Hell, it wouldn't take much of a lie or two from Max, or a warning of any sort, to get her to do whatever necessary for the brooch. Hopefully this wouldn't entail bedtime stories and lullabies to a piece of glass and an egg.

"Max, I want you to understand that I take this with the utmost seriousness. So I will do whatever I have to to, okay? Just forewarn me of anything that might happen to mess up this process." Adelle nodded slowly, appearing far more attached to the personal and not so much monetary value of the prince she was going to receive. With that, the woman clung to her cup of tea, sipping it nervously.
