I believe in evolution as much as the rest of you, so please don't take this the wrong way, but it seems to me just a little strange that the guild home says that we do not believe Noah's flood really happened, just because that many animals couldn't have possibly fit on the arc. You give the uber-religious types garbage for not doing a little research or thinking things through, so this seems just a little hypocritical.

The great flood also appeared in Greek, Egyptian, and Native American beliefs all set in time when civilization was in its more formative years, so it seems a little illogical to assume that it didn't happen. All the rediculousness of the Noah story means is that he didn't really bring two of every creature on the arc with him. Chances are he was just very wealthy to begin with, and already owned a large boat and many animals. Then, when the flooding started, he brought two of every animal he had (and six of every clean animal, as some versions of the story say) on his boat with him to save them, more likely to preserve his wealth than the species.

If you want to retain credibility, you might want to fix your front door. smile

I think we all accept that the nonsense in the Bible can all be twisted and taken to the second degree to actually mean something.

But Noah's flood, as described in the Bible, did not happen. The whole world was not flooded and the whole of world fauna was not ever contained in a single boat and in pairs. The front door is legitimate.

There have ben plenty of large floods over the years.

Noah's flood, however, is not simply a large flood, it is a fairy tale.

A story made up in a time or superstitious, primitive savages whose answer to any question that did not have an immediate answer was to blame it on spirits or Gods or witches.

There has never been any studies, that I know of, which have concluded that there was a point in time where the whole world was flooded, bar those sponsered by, or initiated by, creationists.

Therefor believing that it happened is irrational, and unscientific.

So, you're saying that since a myth that was popular in the civilizations/religions that preceded a variety of cultures ended up being "adapted" for those cultures, it's "true"?

Guess I shouldn't use money anymore, since most cultures/religions have at least one condemnation of it, somewhere. That must mean it's true, right? lol

[Edit: Nearly every culture/religion that is anywhere near a body of water has a "flood" myth of some variety or another, because occasionally bodies of water flood and people like to exaggerate. It's also one of the oldest myths in existence, and the "Ark" version of it is a blatant rip-off from the Epic of Gilgamesh. Similarly, most cultures have some story about members of the undead/evil spirits, because sometimes people got buried before they were really dead, and then "came back". That doesn't mean you'll get assailed by vampires and zuvembi and kuei if you walk out of the house.]
