Hey all, I need some help. =3 The third essay for my English 1C class is one about paradigms [essentially, cultures, but not on a geographical level]. And the paradigm to discuss can be ANYTHING. So guess what I wanna do it on. Pokemon! The gaming/battling subculture. [So please leave comments about how cool the anime or mangas are out of it. =3 Yes, I like them too, but then it's too broad.] If any of you want to volunteer giving out your personal anecdotes involving Pokemon and the gaming fandom, please, by all means, post. I need help coming up with the various lingo we use [aside from battle, IV, EV, Pokemon, Pokeball, etc.], stories and examples I can use, anything and practically everything related to the gaming. Things to keep in Mind (as written by the teacher) • What is this paradigm called among its members? • What kinds of people are drawn to this paradigm and what are they generally like, socially and psychologically? • What is the history of this paradigm? • In what ways is this specific paradigm like or unlike other paradigms related to or associated with this paradigm? • What are the paradigm members’ goals and methods of reaching those goals? • What are the definitions of some key terms or lingo relating to this paradigm? • What is a typical day in the life of a paradigm member regarding their paradigm? I do need to provide MLA citation of people I interviewed/etc, so I am going to need to use your name on my paper. [Most likely I will go with your internet moniker in the essay, a common nickname for your moniker, or your player name. :3 It all depends on how I'm supposed to cite online additions, which I am going to ask about.]

I wouldn't mind either, though I am confused by some of it. xD
I suppose it would take a lot of effort, though.

HP / PP, EV, PkRs (even though it isn't as rare as it used to be)...
And that's all I could think of, will add more if I think of 'em.

Are you going to talk about the origins of the game?
Like how it's based on bug collecting? xD

Also, I have tooooons of things I could talk about regarding Pokémon, so pretty much just pick a topic or give me a question or something.

General Pokemon slang I use? Tippy listed off some good ones there, but most of them I'd never even heard before, or only occasionally.
I use terms like: Battle, catch/capture, rare, shiny, trainer, ball, gym leader(s), elite(s), IV, EV, stats (and their derivative terms), contest, badge/ribbon, poffin, Pokeblock, evolution/evolve, HM/TM, legendaries, double battle, moves, Pokedex, aggro, and so on.
Most of these are general, mind (obviously), and not the tournament kind of slang, like the tiers.

@Tippy: @ that list. I don't recognize even half of it. o___o Wow. O_O Thanks so much guys. <3 I'm totally gonna appreciate your help, and I'll try not to procrastinate this paper like the others. XD;;;; I'll also probably end up working on it over the weekends. It's due at the beginning of December.

Melody Hikari-Shinu Anson @Tippy: @ that list. I don't recognize even half of it. o___o Bahaha yeah. A lot of them are competitive battle-specific, like TR/RD teams (Trick Room/Rain Dance) and Worlds/qualifiers/PVGCs (Pokémon Video Game Championships which takes place at the TCG World Finals ["Worlds"], and of which qualifiers are a part). Just ask a word, and I'll explain it.

Are you going to use terms like Bellyzard or Stallrein? Or CB Scizor, or SD Lucario?

Bulbasauur Are you going to use terms like Bellyzard or Stallrein? Or CB Scizor, or SD Lucario? I think those might be a little too specific. The paper's just on general gaming, though competitive battle is a huge sub-fandom.
