in 21 minutes, at 12:00:01 PST, I'm going to start writing a 50k+ word novel. I will be finished before midnight on Nov 30th. This is part of an event called National Novel Writing Month, and I will succeed.

Why am I telling you guys?

1. The more people you tell a goal the more likely you are to actually do it.

2. If anyone joins me, it will be really fun, and they will reap the benefits of trying.

3. It's fun to brag a little bit.

What does this have to do with Magick?

1. My novel will be a work containing the history of a realm of demons and their lives, their clans, their history, in a strongly magical environment and examining the technological consequences of reliable magical manipulation of the environment.

2. Magick is an execution of a force of Will. I believe any hard task that can strengthen one's Will will ultimately make them more capable of acts of magick. Here we talk alot about the theory of magick, and that's the way I like it, but as a leader I also think I should attempt to walk the talk and do hard things and live a magickal life, or I can't really show other people how it's done.

3. Writing a book makes me an author, which makes me even more awesome and girls will want to sleep with me even more. This is a desired outcome, and from a practical point of view this is a practical work of magick to achieve a desired result.

Sweet, I'm not the only one of us doing NaNo this year.

I was geeky enough to go to a NaNoWriMo kickoff party for my region, and at midnight we started writing our novels. Most of us actually only got about two hundred words done by 3am (except one chick who got 5K done) but everyone there was so awsum that it was worth condemning ourselves to catch up to our daily goal at a more appropriate time.

My novel's about a bunch of (post)modern magicians, whom my protagonist meets and attempts to get help from in order to learn how to kick the a** of some electromagnetic entity (maybe. Haven't decided.) It'll be mostly set in my own city, and each chapter will more or less be devoted to a new character. Each of the characters are, in some way, reflections of me, or bits of my personality, and the protagonist is, for all intents and purposes, my HGA/True Will/Augoeides trying to form a coherent whole from these constituent parts, in a way.

My author page is here. Post up yours if yew got one, Josh, as well as anyone else who happens to be doing NaNo. Best of luck to yew.

I admire your drive and goals, and I've always wanted to write a book. My problem is that I become bored after a couple of pages and quit.

I had started a similar personal challenge for myself, in lieu of NaNo, but that's fallen into stasis at the moment. Apparently it takes about 21 days of repeated practice of something to form it into a new habit, so maybe if I can achieve that it'll actually get finished.
