ok this came to my find after Zuko lost his fire bending when he join Team Avatar
i know Toph mention something about the original source, the the original source for Water Benders.....?
i mean
for Earth-benders is the Bayer-Mole (idk if i spelled it correctly)
fire is dragons
air is Sky Bisons
so whats is for Water Benders???

Earthbenders were taught by badger-moles. (Also not sure about the spelling, but that's more about the use of a - than the animals mentioned)
Anyways: I was wondering about that as well. I know Yue said that waterbenders learned by watching the Moon pull the Ocean, but it was also stated by Jeong-jeong that firebenders learned from the sun. I can't help but think that there is some breed of waterbending fish (or other sea creature) that simply was never mentioned that waterbenders actually learned from.

It would have to be some sort of water creature. My guess is it's one of those exotic, ATLA animals (like badger-frogs or platypus-bears.) That's why we never find out.
And maybe I'm overthinking this, but perhaps the fact Katara doesn't pipe up in that conversation is a symbol of how innocently unskilled she is at waterbending. It could easily show that in the future, she'll get better, but for now, she'll have to work at it.
