General Name: Malag Im’Tyrr Age: One hundred and seventy years. Race: Drow Gender: Male Profession: Assassin, Living Sculptor Where do they live: In Ulorbbath
Appearance Complexion: He has the classic Drow skin tone. Hair Color: Whitish-blue Style: Mid length. Messy, but easily tamed. Eyes: Crimson Glasses: No Height: 5’ 5” Weight: 130 Lbs Build: Lean and toned Distinguishing Features: Severe burn scarring on his chest and torso, and an eye patch. Health? Good, but prone to catching mild fevers on the surface. Disabilities? No left eye. Clothing: Deceptively ragged clothes over an adamantine chainmail shirt Prized Possessions: His father’s Vorpal Sword, Hushed Whisper: It appears to be crafted of ebony. His mother’s Spider Dagger. It is a +2 dagger with a venom chamber in the hilt, leading up to the blade. His mother’s ring, The Sculptor’s Chisel, enchanted a Flesh to Stone spell.
Background and Family Relationships Relationship With Mother: Positive. While his family was of humble means, they were still able to afford a few luxuries that they passed down to their only son. She taught him the spells he knows, how to wield a crossbow, and the prayers and rituals of Lolth. She also taught him the art of creating living sculpture.
Relationship With Father: They are friends as well as rivals. His father taught him how to hunt on the surface, and the art of close combat. He also taught him how to stalk his prey and to blend into the shadows with ease. Siblings? None. Lover? None. Pets? Several spiders that he keeps out of respect for Lolth. He also has a small bat, but it’s more of a friend than an assistant, though it tries to help him out. He found it in his backpack one day, and was about to kill it when it fluttered away and returned with a gold coin. He was amused by this, and decided to keep the creature, naming it Plak‘la Vress’lvel, or Gold Talon in common. While it isn’t very strong, it has a knack for finding bits of gold and other coins, so Malag keeps it around.
History in detail
Equipment: Hushed Whisper: Vorpal Sword. Spider Dagger: Dagger +2 with room for five doses of poison. Blowgun Hand crossbow The Sculptor’s Chisel
Abilities: Hide in Shadows (Great) Lock Picking (Decent) Trap Finding (Good) Pick Pocket (Decent) Flesh to Stone (Once a week)
Personality Greatest Fear/Phobia: Being quadruple crossed and ending up thinking what he thought at the beginning of the treachery, only to discover he was right.
Pet Peeves? Nosy people. Most at ease when... In large groups. Most uncomfortable when: Being questioned with the aid of a lie detector of some sort. Most embarrassing moment(s): Being caught lying to a Lolthian Priestess and sentenced to a public whipping, and having his father take his place.
Underestimating a human mage, and earning the scars to prove his foolishness.
Understimating an Elven archer and losing his eye for it. Darkest Secret: He is deeply envious of the Lolthian Priestesses ability to use magic as easily as they do. Greatest Strength: Stealth, clever wit, and a crafty mind. Greatest Weakness: Tends to overplan a great deal, and often underestimates himself.
Good/Bad habits:
Good Habits: Always covers his tail. He keeps at least three back-up plans at all times, just in case.
Bad Habits: He is a compulsive liar. He’s managed to rein it in significantly over the years, but the joy of watching others dangle in a web of lies is just too satisfying, especially on denser races like trolls, orcs, and goblins.
Biggest accomplishment: Creating statues out the people that maimed him.
Biggest regret: Underestimating so many opponents.
Mental Disturbance? Formerly a compulsive liar, but he’s getting better.
Interpersonal Skills Perceived by others? He is fairly easy-going, but he knows when to separate business and pleasure.
What do others like? His easy wit and wily planning. He is rarely caught off-guard. What do others dislike? The fact that they can rarely tell when he’s lying and when he’s telling the truth.
Goals : First to secure employment from a House, and second to bring honor to his family. However, his personal goal is to make a sculpture out of a dragon of some sort, though he somewhat doubts the feasibility of this.

ADDENDUM: He has also made the acquaintance of Nizzre Zar'ynrae. They met in a large market place where he discovered her hawking obviously phony wares to Orcs. He was altogether too amused by it to report her, despite the death of one Orc, and when he introduced himself, the two hit it off wonderfully. While not officially friends yet, he does harbor a certain fondness for her, and hopes she feels the same.

I thank you, but my home is among the Hun'Afin.
ADDENDUM: In order to activate his ring, he typically uses either the phrase "Punitatus" for humans specifically, or "Zah'har mal'rak, tupora khaliizi" for anything else. The second phrase means Suffer forever, living stone."

Okay, I don't have many complaints here, and I like the character concept. However, magical items are always going to be a bit of a bugbear with me.
Saying that 'it was passed down from mummy (or daddy)' is not really a justification to have an artifact-class item. These are not minor objects to have. A vorpal sword is actually immensely powerful, given its ability to decapitate opponents with frightening regularity. Equally a spider dagger seems like an odd fit for the character as described, particularly as a +2 weapon. A poisoned dagger I'd have no problems with, but why make it magic as well if he's already got the sharpest sword you can find?
And finally the sculptor's chisel. This is the scary one, as it seems he can choose to petrify people just by muttering the command. I would like a lot more detail of this, and background of how it came about. Being able to turn anyone into stone on a whim is not a balanced power at all, so a lot more detail along with a few limitations would really help here.
Also - goblins are not 'denser' races. They are vicious and cunning. Cowardly, yes, but definitely not dense. Neither are orcs. Trolls, however, are.

Always glad to go into extra detail! Thanks for bring these up by the way, I was meaning to add a bit more storyline to him. Just a quick note, I promise not to use the insta-killing on any characters, unless permitted. I'm a consumate gamer, and respect to the other players is first on my list. First off, the Vorpal Sword.
The Hushed Whisper (Vorpal Blade's name) has quite a long ancestry. Before it came into the Im'Tyrr family, it belonged to a wealthy merchant, who obtained it from another merchant of less noble means, who stole it from an adventurer. The adventurer obtained it from a rather nasty Lich's crypt, and barely escaped from it. The blade has tasted the blood of bugbears, elves, Drow, and owlbears in its time, and it has even survived an encounter with a Wraith. Unfortunately, it was nearly lost in a confrontation with a mummy, which gave the adventurer a case of Grave-Rot, resulting in his eventual, painful demise. His wife claimed it in his name, and that is who the peddler eventually stole it from. It sat on the peddlar's mantle for the better part of a decade before being spotted by the wealthy merchant: the man had an acute eye for detail, and quickly recognized the value of such a blade, making what seemed to be a good deal for a sword that was worth easily thirty times the value given. The wealthy merchant wore the sword proudly, using it in duels to deadly effect. However, he was proudly displaying his wares in a surface town one evening, when another man accused him of being a scam artist; offended, the merchant naturally challenged him to a duel, drawing the blade with fury. Today though, the sword wasn't as hungry as it usually was: blows were struck, blood was drawn, and a life ended. However, the once-triumphant merchant now found his blood upon the edge of another's blade, and he fell, defeated. The scene descended into anarchy as the bystanders struggled to snatch the fallen merchant's wares. Malag's father had been hunting on the surface and was returning home when he stumbled uopn the scene. A practiced thief, he managed to snatch up the sword and make for the caverns, along with a good deal of money. He was pursued, of course, but the blade had apparently awakened, and it defended him with vigor, beheading all who stood before him. He quickly returned home with the blade, and hid it from all eyes for several weeks. Afterwards, he presented it to his wife, who recieved it graciously. Ever since, the sword has rested in the family's vault, only to be called upon in times of need. His mother and father were both wounded in the destruction and looting of another house, and their ability to garner income was severely dampened. Since Malag's skills were just beginning to blossom, his mother loaned it to him to aid his assassinations, and protect her source of income. ______________________________________________________
For the Spider Dagger, I understand your concerns about this too, and I agree with them. I'm changing it to be just a regular poisoned dagger. Like you said, I don't need a dagger +2 AND a Vorpal Sword. It's like a rocket launcher with a bayonet attachment: cool, but not really necessary or justifiable. ______________________________________________________ As for the Sculptor's Chisel, I also promise not to use that without player consent. It's weakness is the fact that it must be pressed directly against exposed flesh, and it must stay in contact while he says the ENTIRE command. And no, I also promise not to use the "Talking is a free action" cheat, lol. All the target has to do to avoid it is take a step backwards, or slap his hand away. Humans have it a bit harder, because the command is a simple four syllable phrase, but anything else has a pretty good chance of escape: the ten syllable phrase offers much more time to get away, as the enunciation must be clear.
It can also only be used once a week: no exceptions. I'll explain it too: I looooove backstory!!!
The Sculptor's Chisel is an rather interesting piece of work. At first glance, it appears as nothing more than a slighty gaudy, if expensive bit of jewelry. It's a small platinum band with the Im'Tyrr family crest carved along the outside, and a small topaz set into the center, shaped to resemble a chisel. It is innocuous, but it's history is as long as the Im'Tyrr family line. Forged by Malag's greatest grandfather at the commision of his greatest grandmother, the ring was cast and set innocently enough. However, Malag's greatest grandmother was always seeking to please her daughters, who deeply loved sculpting. She pursued mystic knowledge to enchant the ring, but was largely unsuccessful. She tormented herself night and day, seeking an appropriate way to make the ring into something interesting, but she failed time and again. Finally, in an anxious fit, she went to the Temple of Lolth nearby and cloistered herself into a private chapel. She prayed for inspiration for days, but never once emerged. Two weeks later, her family grew concerned, and went to the Temple to inquire about her. The Priestesses opened the door, and there stood a statue of the Greatest Grandmother, frozen in place with a brilliant smile upon her lips and the ring held between her fingers. The words "Punitatus" and "Zah'har mal'rak, tupora khaliizi" were carved into her forearm, and the pool of blood on the ground indicated that she had written them in a burst of creativity. Even if unthawed, she would already be dead from blood loss. Some say that she was divinely inspired by her time in the temple, others say that she concieved it in another fit of madness. None can say for certain though, for the only ones who bore witness to the ring's birth were the Greatest Grandmother, and the Spider Queen herself. And at the moment, neither of them has said anything one way or the other...
However, the ring passed to her daughters and they experimented with it to discover it's powers. Two were lost to the ring's power whilst repeating the words, and the third died at the cost of learning it's different effect on humans. The fourth and youngest finally unlocked it's secrets, and put them to good use, learning from her sisters' sacrifices. She became known for her beautiful, intricate, and exceedingly life-like sculptures, but only the Im'Tyrr knew the secret behind them: living flesh once moved beneath the stony skin, but never again.
Through the generations, the ring has been passed as a primary source of income, and a prized family heirloom. Malag's mother had never proven her knack for art, and her talent at "posing" her statues was quite wanting. Her son though, proved exceptional at the task, and was quickly set to work once a week, crafting magnificent images of great warriors, tearful goodbyes, and proud leaders. The family enjoyed the income, and Malag's creativity blossomed in turn: his mother gave him the ring to use in his pursuits, provided he sent back the profits for her and Malag's father to live on. To this day, Malag sculpts in his downtime, making money and sending it back home along with a letter recording his latest deeds. ______________________________________________________
Finally, I understand that Goblins and Orcs are tricksy creatures, but Malag doesn't quite grasp it yet. One of his weaknesses is overconfidence, and I was trying to show that a bit there: he's still fairly young, so he's naturally a bit reckless and smug.
Well, I hope that was enough justification for the items and other bits, and I hope you liked the stories. I look forward to hearing your reviews!
