Ho Ho HOOOO!

December already, where did the year go? It's already the time that the radio becomes less interesting than usual, green and red dominate our land and I get 31 days to play Alex Lifeson's version of The Little Drummer Boy before convention steals it away from me again.

Anyone planning on doing anything special, or shall I have online company to pester until I get back to work? biggrin

Any wish lists or gifts you're itching to buy for other people? THE WORLD MUST KNOW!

I find it mildly amusing I'm making this topic, seeings as I'm officially Grinch'ing Christmas this year, no decorations, celebrations, cards or pressies. RAGH! I'm Scrooge McDuck I tells ya and I'd rather have a peein' contest with me old rival FLINTHART GLOMGOLD oVo

Still, I'm always curious as to how others shall deck the halls with bows of holly falalalalalalalalalalala! *dances and prances back to hobbit hidey hole to do more work, play more Rush (game AND music ;3) and wait for Zero to get back, so we can steal Halloween!

as i lack the funds this year, christmas presents are going to be limited to my nearest and dearest. ^^;
but i've got all my decorations from the previous years, which i'm putting up now. *basks in the glitter and lights*

(plus buying massively discounted christmas cards during the spring/summer helps. razz )

I always thought Uncle Scrooge was sadly misunderstood for his miserdom wink

May I join you in your Grinchness? I had the misfortune to be in the shopping centre last week looking for windscreen wipers. Crowds of people everywhere and not a man jack of 'em looking where in blazes they were going. GAAAAAH!

Online shopping is the future, I tell ya!

As for decorations, I've never bothered with decorating my own place. My mother bought me a little Xmas tree to sit on a coffee table last year, which I use to humour her. Besides, tinsel looks so tacky smile

On the other hand, I can now play my Xmas tape in my car if I need to. Though today was Sonic R soundtrack, which may explain why I hit awful traffic and arrived late to work. Tails Doll, I hear your curse from here, oh mighty evil one!

I need to invest in a Santa hat for Tails Doll. For some reason that would be more of a festive effort than all over years combined. *Commanded by the almighty TD*

i've strung the kitchen with left over tinsel, and my flatmate is dicing with fire by wrapping coloured cellophane (sp?) over the lights.

what's so wrong with tacky? :p

I've got Christmas carollers outside my window right now. Hmph. They also have a snow machine out there. Thank heavens it's not the real thing.

Mind you, there are 2 things I'm kinda looking forward to: a) the possibility, however slight, that ITV will rerun TaleSpin or something equally Disney at 5am every morning over the hols (they did one year, after all); and b) The Doctor's Christmas Invasion. Though I already miss Christopher Ecclestone sad

I will have to dig out the Muppet Christmas Carol soon. Now that is a class movie smile

Well, I can at least say that I've partially completed a tiny bit of Christmas preparations and the like.
I'm just about finished shopping for my folks and best friend back home (40% discount...one of the few benefits for working for Disney...: p), so I can mostly relax knowing I won't be wracking my brain over what to get them.

I still need to get some sort of decorations for the apartment, which has seemed a bit plain since Halloween passed. Thinking I'll run to the local Wal-Mart and pick up a cheap articificial tree (no tree farms here...sigh...). Not that I'll have much time to admire the day thing :/

At the moment, the only Christmas-y things in my possession are my Santa Stitch hat, and my Trans-Siberian Orchestra album that I've been playing constantly.

As for Christmas plans themselves...Heh, as if I were even allowed the CHANCE to do anything. Kinda sad how a supposedly family-oriented company like Disney runs its own employees ragged during the holidays.

Also, I'm kind of hoping that maybe this year I'll actually get some mistletoe action going razz

..the cellophane has now been removed from said lights as the security guards came along and removed it, telling us it was a major fire hazard. (looks like i was right about it from the start)

a shame, it looked pretty. ^^;

have sent the parents my christmas list. i want a toaster and 'Thud'.

Christmas preparations? But it's only early December...
But yeah. I'm seeing family and possibly going to the lakes for a few days.

Need to do shopping at some point, too...

As the saying goes here in the Philippines, as soon as the months start ending with -ber, it's Christmas Season already. xd There's no space to fit a tree in this house, but grandma's stringing a bunch of lights outside. My aunt and uncle have an aspiring interior designer boarding with them, and he did their house up REALLY nice. As for shopping? We're all dirt poor! xd I expect we're all gonna give each other chocolates or something. xp

I've joined a Secret Santa thing in another guild, too. Yeah, right in the middle of my questing. gonk At least I have a mule account that serves as my "bank".

Thought I'd slightly hijack this thread for your views: what are your favourite Xmas movies?

I *need* to get hold of Mickey's Christmas Carol for this holiday season. I just love Uncle Scrooge smile

I will also be watching The Muppet Christmas Carol. This practically stars Gonzo & Rizzo, so gets five stars from me. Never mind the pig and frog, give me the whatever and the rat smile It also features the unusual sight of Michael Caine singing - he doesn't do that for just any movie, you know. The music isn't too schmaltzy, considering this is a Disney production.

I shall probably dig out Gremlins for a change of pace. Yep, Gremlins is technically an Xmas movie. It is set at Christmas time anyhow. Who could resist those cute little mogwai?

I might even torture myself with Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (MSTed of course!).

Other movies that are not necessarily Xmassy, but remind me of holidays for some reason:
Labyrinth
Princess Bride
NeverEnding Story (but I watched that the other night on five - turns out I know *all* the words - and I don't mean just to the theme tune!)
Back to the Future

So, what do you think, sirs?

DW

EDIT: How could I possibly forget How the Grinch Stole Christmas? And I mean the proper Chuck Jones animated masterpiece, not the Jim Carrey pot of evil...

Ah Christmas movie season, thank Five for keeping it... alive.

So far I've been enjoying the obligitory treats that SKY and Five have to offer with the Sunday family film, begrudging any that I happen to miss (especially Wizard of Oz, armed with a bias fueled by Wicked, I wanna watch that movie and leer at Dorothy and her merry band of murdereous scum... even if they're not bad or murdery in the book), so far that would include:

Both Gremlins movies (any movie with the line "While they're opening their presents, other people are opening their wrists" does not count as a proper Christmas movie)
NeverEnding Story (<-- fave movie of childhood, wish I read the book first and always will until I die)
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (even a**l!Craig couldn't hate that movie much, for one, Riddle refers to Lily as a Mudblood instead of a Muggle! Go Script-writter!)
The Santa Clause 2 (a suprisingly good sequel to a suprisingly good movie, gets bonus points for having the Shrek like "she becomes old and ugly" ending, loses them for having a head mistress SO young and attractive that the moment she appeared on screen we knew she was going to end up with Tim Allen before we even knew about the Mrs. Clause - Also, is Toy Santa related to The (Burger) King?)
Scrooged (A personal favourite, no idea why. Modern reworkings rarely work in my opinion, unless they're rewrites with the same formula like 10 Things)

and shall soon be enjoying the Home Alone movies with Kevin in them, no 3 or 4 for me; Jingle All The Way, not sure why but SKY Movies put a family film on Sunday at 4 and Five on at 6, it's worth watching both for the mood, even if the movie is bad.

Christmas seems to have the ability to make me not hate movies like I normally do, I spent enough time with critics on the BBC film site to learn how to despise anything and everything, and yet when Christmas comes I'll watch and ENJOY anything. Even if that requires some MiSTing.

Gotta say, though. If ITV bought and aired Potter already, what the hell am I going to be watching on the afternoon? If it's Santa the Movie and The Great Escape again, I'm just climbing back into bed.

*Is trying my damn hardest to Grinch this Christmas and needs ammo*

That sort of thing is why I liked the first one, though the second was a bit off a mess.
As for my favourite Christmas film... do those of you who know me even have to ask?
It's a Burton/Sellick collaberation that did not come out this year.

Second place goes to Batman Returns for feeling Christmassy while defying the spirit entirely.

Hm, fav Christmas movies and specials....I can't say I find it easy these days to enjoy all the classic specials out there like Rudolph and Frosty (well, at least without giving it the ol' MST3000 treatment XP...God forbid me and my brother record our commentary on them). I won't speak any further of 'Sonic Christmas Blast', either...

At least there's Nightmare Before Christmas, even though it's been YEARS since I've seen it now (gotta get off my butt and buy the dvd). Other decent Xmas flicks include previously mentioned Home Alone 1 & 2, and the Santa Clause (sorry, but I'll take the original over the half-acted sequel : P).
Oh yeah, Muppet's Christmas Carol is an old fav for my family, as well. ^^

Yay, another MiSTie! Welcome, brother! *hugs* I'm on a mission to convert everyone I know... I count Samwise among my convertees (I hope!) smile

Not seen Sonic Christmas Blast, though I've often wondered whether I ought to go find the DVD. From your comments, guess not smile

On the TV side, I'd kind of forgotten the existence of Christmas specials (and if anyone finds this post familiar, yes, it is an adaptation of one I've posted elsewhere. No originality to be found here! wink ). I adore the Pinky & the Brain Xmas special - new themetune, nice storyline if a *teensy* bit schmaltzy. The Animaniacs' Night Before Christmas ("and laying his finger inside of his nose - which the dear network censor finds *totally* gross...") is hysterical, as is their version of A Christmas Carol.

Tiny Toons and Sylvester & Tweety Mysteries each have their tribute to "It's a Wonderful Life".

Darkwing's "It's a Wonderful Leaf" has Bushroot's Operation Bah Humbug, with demon Christmas trees (sounds like Dr Who's writers have been watching DW on the side wink ). TaleSpin had a nice episode, most of which I missed on the one occasion that ITV ran it, alas.

And I never tire of Michael Knight explaining the purpose of gift giving to KITT smile
