My mind is just blown.
This is what I've been missing.
How did it take this long for me to learn about this?
I feel like I've grown as a person.
No longer just getting cupcakes and cookies. I shop for bread now.
I have grown so much, in fact, that I felt I needed to log immediately onto Gaia to tell everyone.

I got a gift card for a bakery. Great Harvest Bread Co. Inc. & Assoc. & Friends.

I've never gotten bread from a bakery. Usually just sweets. But oh man. Oh man, I did not know bread could add so much flavor to a sandwich. I used to think bread was just there to keep your hands from getting messy. Sure, I've had pumpernickel and Asiago-flavor-blasted bread from Subway, but this bread actually has more flavor than the Deli-Fresh Select Magic Cuts turkey I'm using. This bread marks a turning point in my sandwich career.

Did you know Savory is an herb? I didn't, but I'm glad I do now.

We have a little bread machine at my house. Bread can be damn awesome, and worthy of being eaten by itself. 3nodding

Have you ever had Hawaiian sweet bread? That stuff rocks.

Taro bread is so delicious.

Bread is my favorite food. From chinese steam bun to olive bread with greek olives baked into the middle.... Mmmmmmmmm

Nothing can beat a good bread.

One of my other favorite by-itself breads is garlic bread with real, whole cloves of roasted garlic baked in. Mmm.

But my favorite sandwich actually requires specific bread: hot, peppered pastrami with melted Swiss cheese and some kind of mustard (preferably honey) on fresh, toasted, dark rye bread. *drool*

There is a world of bread out there that I've been ignoring.

I vaguely remember having a discussion with Arbo about America being sadly lacking in bakeries. I hope I'm not making that up or generalising, but it stuck in my mind because I was shocked and horrified. Almost every small town here has a bakery. gonk I know, because when we go on holidays we always stop off at them for a meat pie or sausage roll and a cake. The vanilla slice is an Aussie favourite...

Anyway, we have a bakery about street away from my house so on weekends we often buy rolls or croissants for lunch. My parents like sourdough but I'm not really a fan. For toast and stuff we just buy bread from the supermarket... I like multigrain, usually.

And subway bread is crap. mad I'm not reaaaally a fan of bread from Asian bakeries like Bread Top. It's too light and they often put that sweet glaze on the top.

Sorry... I suppose I'm also quite passionate about bread. sad
This probably also explains why I eat too much carbs. >.>

sweatdrop That discussion about hot crossed buns. It's probably because of how rural the area is. Closest we got to a bakery is one inside of a local Walmart. I seriously wish we had some place around the 'handle that was nice but didn't involve BBQ or being a sports bar. xp

Regardless, I love bannana nut or zucchini bread. My father and step mother make their own breads, but they've never been as good as the ones Mum makes...at least when we still had a bread maker.

we used to have lots of bakeries in the US

but they got taken over by supermarkets where they are struggling overworked departments that import most of their specialties instead of making them fresh.

i do love fresh crusty bread, you bread off a hunk and the steam comes out!

too bad i am so lousy at baking; my last attempt at cheese loaves could have been used as paving stones.
