"What? Really?" Lina looked up in surprise at her mom. Lina, Sicel, and their mother was sitting at their house, eating dinner around the table.

"I thought it would be a good experience for you. It's not an official league contest, and it's for people at your experience level." Valeries explained to her daughter, eating her food calmly.

Lina fidgeted in her chair, feeling her appetite disappear as her stomach tied into a knot. She'd always planned to be a Coordinator...but she hadn't counted on a contest so soon. forget the fact that it was a beginner class contest- she'd have to perform in front of a crowd! With people and pokemon watching!

Just the thought of it made her insides squirm.

"B-but...I'm not ready." Lina stuttered. "I don't have a routine prepared or anything."

"Well, I'm sure you'll have something thought up. I made you a dress while you were away dear. You can wear that for the competition."

That was how Lina got forced into the contest.

When she inquired her team about who wanted to enter the contest, Minerva hissed at her, Cheer stared at her blankly, and Frill was too scared of Pixie to say a thing. Pixie volunteered.

Lina walked with the Ninetales down to the Lilycove Beach. It was a beautiful sunny day, and the water was calm. With the cooling weather though, the water has a lot less swimmers than it usually has.

Lina didn't see any of this though, her mind wandering to the upcoming contest. She couldn't help but think of all the things that could possibly go wrong...what if she did something stupid in front of all those people? What if she simply just froze from fright?

"Ninetales!" Pixie bumped against Lina, nearly knocking the girl over.

"Nine, nine, ninetales!" She scolded the girl. It roughly translated to You're my trainer, now stop being a wussy and go kick some butt.

Lina smiled and ran a hand through pixie's fur.

"That's easy for you to say." Lina stopped along a section of the beach that was more or less deserted.

"Well, um...let's start I guess." Lina looked around nervously, hoping that no one was watching. She had to come up with a routine for the contest, and she figured finding a secluded area of the beach would be a good way to practice some possible performances. If only she had some ideas...

"Florin!! HOLD IT!!" Eienna yelled, following the overeager Growlithe pup who was quickly leaving everyone else behind, kicking up sand as he went. He bowled into Lina and sat down, surprised. Eienna caught up and grabbed him by the scruff. "Sorry about that," she apologized, hauling Florin backwards. "It's his first trip out anywhere."

Having removed Florin from Lina, she looked out at the watery side of the horizon. She wanted so badly to enter the contest, but could she possibly do it? She caught herself sighing out loud. I don't know a thing about performing. Then she noticed Florin flipping something around. A beach ball? she wondered, watching the pup. Then he did something indistinct that made her suck in her breath sharply. They DID have a chance! She turned to see Aithne and Coty coming, her mind already at work.

((Did you get my note on the Contest page? Can you give me the name of the one Pokemon you are entering? 3nodding ))

Lina stumbled as something rammed into her from behind. The small girl yelped in surprise and fell forward, catching herself with her arms just before she would have hit the sand face-first.

While Lina was simply surprised, Pixie's reaction was a lot more alarming. The Ninetales spun herself around at the sound of her trainer's cry. Within a second she had jumped over Lina, hovering above the girl protectively. Her fangs were bared, a growl in her throat, and all of her tails were bristled and erect. Her red eyes seemed to glow as she glared at the one who dared hurt her trainer.

"Pixie! It's alright!" Lina cried out, throwing her arms around the Ninetale's neck and hugging her tightly. Lina's seen Pixie like this- ever since the fire, the Ninetales has been very protective of Lina. And ever since that second fire at the Pokemon center, she had seemed more determined to keep her trainer safe.

Pixie hesitated for a moment, and then she relaxed. Casting the growlithe one final warning glare (Hurt my trainer ever again, and I will rip your throat out kind of warning glare) she looked to her trainer, concern and love in her eyes.

Lina hugged Pixie again, burying her face in the fur, and then let go of her cherished partner to examine the other trainer.

Has she seen her before? Lina wasn't too sure.

"I'm sorry about Pixie. She's been like...um...this ever since we were , uh...caught in a fire." Lina found it hard to speak, partically because mentioning the fire still brought up bad memories, and mostly because she felt horribly awkward talking to a stranger. Curse her shyness!

((I have now! It's gonna be Florin))

Eienna nodded understandingly. She hated introductions but Florin - bless the energetic baby - had provided her a point of contact that made her feel a little less awkward talking to the girl. Also....
Aithne had caught up and sat by her side. "This little one here," said Eienna, bending down to scratch her behind the ears, "was something of a fire victim herself." The Eevee's unusually-colored fur had nearly grown back, and she looked happy. "Things like that are rough." Eienna held out a hand to help the fellow trainer up.

Lina accepted Eienna's hand, pulling herself up. Pixie helped, giving Lina gentle nudge, all the while keeping an eye on the other trainer. She wasn't very comfortable with another person so near, and the ninetales was tense.

Lina stammered her thanks as she got her footing again, finding herself edging closer to Pixie. She just felt so awkward and useless. And this was just in front of a stranger, what will happen if she gets up on stage?!

Lina watched as Eienna scratched a very happy-looking eevee just behind the ears. She seemed to enjoy it immensely. Lina though to her own Eevee and winced slightly. Minerva hates her and just about all humans. If only she would be as close to Lina as this eevee was to Eienna!

Pixie had settled down by now, sitting right by Lina, her tails wrapping themselves around her legs.

"Ninetales." Pixie murmured, nudging Lina with her head. Should we prepare for the contest now?

"Oh! Right! Um...yes..." Lina fidgeted as she struggled with what to say.

"Um...It's nice meeting you. I have to uh...go now." She stammered to the other trainer.

"Me and my Ninetales need to er, prepare for a contest." Her voice died down near the end of the sentence. She thought that she sounded ridiculous. Prepare for a contest? She has no idea what she will do, and it's not even an official contest!

Now it was Eienna's turn to turn red. "Um...I want to...too." She didn't look too confident either. "I'm....I'm scared to, though," she admitted, her voice betraying an embarassed sort of frustration. "I don't know what to do. I signed up, but I don't know if I can even...." She sat down, her head in her hands. Next thing she knew, Florin was climbing on her head. She gave him a half-smile. "Thanks, buddy," and pulled him off her head and into her arms. "I hope you have some ideas."

"Oh! Um..uh, you too?" What were the chances that Lina would meet another contestant? Well, at least Lina assumed the other trainer was part of the same contest that she had entered. It was the only beginner-ranked contest in Lilycove for the next month. And if this trainer didn't know what she was suppose to do in a contest, then she can't be in anything except a beginner-ranked contest.

Finding at least some common ground with the stranger, Lina felt a bit more relaxed.

"You're not from around Lilycove are you?" Lina asked, knowing that anyone who's been in Lilycove for at least a few months has probably gone to watch a contest or two. She decided to follow Eienna's example and sit down as well. Pixie hesitated for a moment before settling down next to Lina.

"Well, I don't have many ideas either..." Lina blushed slightly as she looked down. "Well, actually, I've seen a lot of contests, and there's some really neat things I've seen that I want to try...but things like that takes years of practise. I really don't know what I can do at the beginner level..." Lina grew up watching contests almost weekly. There were quite a few Coordinators that she had idolized ever since she was very little...

Pixie bumped against Lina slightly.

"Ninetales, nine." she confidently stated, ruffling her fur and sitting up straighter. It doesn't matter your experience. You have me. What else do you need?

Lina smiled and started running her finger through Pixie's fur. Yes, Lina had Pixie. If only she could be as confident as her pokemon...

"No, I'm not. I've just been here more recently." She watched Pixie for a moment. Somehow she was better at thinking up stuff for others than she was for herself. "You two could do a really pretty dance....she's just so elegant." Eienna brushed a lock of hair out of her face. "Maybe with her holding a rose or something. I don't know - maybe it's a stupid idea...but it's a thought. Gosh, if she was groomed all super-shiny and soft...." The looked down at her little Growlithe. "I have no idea what I'm going to do, though. What can I expect from a....a baby? I couldn't enter anyone else; Aithne here is afraid of most strange people, and Coty, well....he prefers more serious things." Florin decided to wriggle out of her lap and go play with the beach ball he'd found earlier. "Waait. Serious, not serious." Eienna thought about that for a second, then fell over backwards. "Break out the clown paint! I know what we're gonna do!"

Pixie straightened slightly when Eienna said she was elegant. Of course.

Lina smiled at the ninetale's cockiness, ruffling her trusted partner's fur.

"You would like that wouldn't you?"

Lina sighed and propped her chin on her hands. A dance eh? It would probably work if not for the fact Lina had no experience with dancing. And without experience, well, she's pretty sure sure she couldn't really come up with anything anyone would want to watch.

"A grooming huh? Probably a good idea." Lina continued to brush her hand through Pixie's fur, picking apart a small knot absently at the base of her neck.

"Heh, I'm afraid out of my pokemon, Pixie was the only one who I could enter." She looked to the Ninetales fondly. Lina looked back to Eienna as she fell over backwards.

"Whoa- um, a-are you ok?"
PostPosted: Sat Oct 03, 2009 7:25 pm

"Yeah." Eienna replied, feeling somewhat exultant. "I just realized what I should do with Florin." She sat up again, and began mentally preparing a list of what she'd need. She realized suddenly that she'd seen a look of hesitation on Lina's face. "What's the matter?"

"Hmm? Ah, it's nothing." Lina replied to Eienna's question. She stared up at the sky, and realized she had spend a considerable amount of time talking to the other trainer.

"I'm glad you have an idea. I can't wait to see it at the contest." Lina began to stand up.

"I have to go now. I still need to work with Pixie." She bowed to Eienna in good-bye and turned around to leave, urged on by the ninetales. Lina stopped as she suddenly realized something.

"Oh, we haven't even introduced ourselves! My name is Lina. And you are...?"

((I'm sorry for the stupidly short and low quality post. I was cramming homework today and I only had ten minutes left to post after I was done. sorry ;_; ))

((It's okay, I can't say mine are exceptionally detailed either))

"Eienna." She stood up. "Aithne, Florin! Coty! We're going now!" The Sandslash poked his head out of a hole he'd been digging, Aithne came back from playing in the surf, and Florin reluctantly left his best attempt at a sandcastle (which looked more like....a pile of sand).

"I'll be off too," she grinned. "See you at the contest, okay?"

Eienna
