Welcome
Welcome to the Lilycove Contest hall, best known as the biggest Contest hall in the Hoenn region. The judge for the contest today will be Mierlyn Akair.
Unfortunately, since she is not a fully certified judge yet, Mierlyn can not give out the Lilycove Ribbon as a prize to the winner. However, she is willing to provide a Pokemon Egg as the prize instead, and we hope that will motivate you to do your best!
If you are unfamiliar with how a contest works, please ask any of our friendly staff members for help.

How it'll work
Sign up for the contest will be between Sunday September 27th, 2009 to Sunday October 4th, 2009.
Mierlyn asks that this contest be used as an opportunity for beginner Coordinators to see contests first-hand. Thus, the only people allowed to register for this contest are those who have not earned a ribbon before.
The prize will be a Pokemon Egg. Mierlyn believes it is a Pichu Egg.
Each Coordinator will have 10 minutes to perform, which starts the moment the moment they set foot on the stage. Coordinators do not need to use the entire 10 minutes.
Each Coordinator is only allowed to use one Pokemon for this contest.
The entry fee for this contest is 100 Pokedollars (Note: RP-wise, not Gaia-wise.)
Although this may seem obvious, please refrain from using attacks that might injure bystanders or damage the building.

Note About Lina
My character Lina Swift will be participating in the contest RP-Wise. I want her to go through a contest since I've planned her to be a coordinator since the very beginning.
Don't worry, I know it's not fair to judge my own roleplay entry. She won't win this competition, I'll just pass her over in the judging.
So just think of her as an NPC in the story of the contest.

A Pokemon Contest is basically the trainer -the Coordinator- and their pokemon performing to impress a crowd and a judge.
The idea is that the pokemon perform moves, does cool tricks- whatever to impress the people. It's usually judged on the appeal of the performance, how well the Coordinator and Pokemon work together, and the like.
Think of it as a Talent Show wink
Also, can you please pick only one Pokemon? I think I mentioned somewhere that each coordinator is only allowed one Pokemon for this particular contest. Just to keep it simple until I get the hang of running these things better 3nodding

((Oh geez I had a huge post and then my comp crashed and I lost it all ._.))
Mierlyn paced the stage nervously, checking that everything was in order. Her eyes kept on darting to the judge's table, where she'd sit for the duration of the contest. On each side of her seat were two of the older judges, both taking notes. They would be assessing Mierlyn as she assessed the performance of today's entrants.
Everything was perfect, and the contest was in an hour. Mierlyn felt as nervous as when she was at her first contest many many years ago.
Finally deciding that the pacing wasn't doing her any good, Mierlyn walked off the stage and settled into her chair.
Her four pokemon were all clustered around the desk, with the Rojn'Az twins chatting in obnoxiously loud voices, Takrin the Sandshrew chewing on a toy Mier gave him, and Cynder sitting quietly on the table next to Mierlyn's papers.
She picked up a short document and scanned though it. It listed the contestants and the pokemon they were entering. She had a manageable number of entrants today, with 5 coordinators. ((I don't think they would let a contest run with just two people, so I stuck in a few NPCs just for story purposes)) There was a Misdreavus, a Kirlia, a Growlithe, a poochyena, and a ninetales. An interesting lineup, this will be a great contest.
Reading through the papers a few more times, she was startled when someone nudged her in the elbow.
"Mier, it's time."
She looked around hastily, and saw that the arena was about half full already, and everyone was looking at her expectantly. Clearing her throat and grabbing the microphone, she stood up.
"Welcome to the Lilycove Contest Hall for today's Open Class Contest. Your judge today will be me, Mierlyn. As you may already know, today's contest is for those just starting their coordinator careers..." Blahblahblah, on and on, you know the drill. Good thing is, Mier's been to enough of these contests to know exactly what to say, training or no.
"Now, please give a big hand of applause for our first contestant, Sarah from Lilycove with her Misdreavus, Mist!"
A shy looking girl hurried onto the stage, a Misdreavus floating along behind her. They did a few moves, a few illusions, nothing really complex. When their performance was done, the girl and her pokemon nearly ran off the stage in fright.
The next performance didn't turn out so good, with a confusion move hitting the trainer. They didn't stay on very long.
"Next up is Eienna, with her Growlithe Florin!"
As usual the crowd broke out with applause, and Mierlyn set the microphone down. Grabbing her pen and her evaluation sheet, she watched as the next coordinator took the stage.

Rushing to the thrift store after your Pokemon's outfit is finally finished and you're supposed to be leaving doesn't help your appearance much. Eienna was painfully aware of this as she stepped on stage (see avatar's outfit), but she did her best to bite down her nerves and forget about it.
She hopped up on stage with a medium-sized toy box and set it off to one side. "Good morning, everyone!" She said, with a nervous but 'this is it' sort of smile. Once the bullet was bitten there was no turning back, and that settled her anxiety considerably. "If you left your smiles at home, that's okay, 'cuz this little guy's gonna bring 'em right back for you. Introducing.....Florin!!" The young Growlithe popped his head out of the toy box and looked around at the crowd with a silly grin. He had a clown ruff around his neck, a bright red clown nose, and his body temp-dyed black with colored spots. He ducked back in as Eienna turned to look at him. "Florin? Now where could that silly puppy be?" she asked, turning to the crowd and leaving a moment in which Florin could scramble out of the box and hide behind it. He gave the crowd an even sillier grin as Eienna made a show of checking inside the box. He came around behind her and stole a scribbled-on strip of cloth from her back pocket, readable as it came out, that said "Eienna needs a Bath".
Florin took the cloth backstage and before Eienna turned around made a big deal out of sitting pretty and looking up at her with perfectly innocent eyes. "Oh, there you are! Now where's my....wait...." she checked her back pocket. "Did you - FLORIN!" She put her hands on her hips. "We can't entertain them with that now. I must have left it at home. However, I brought something you'll like, Florin." She dug around in the box, throwing miscellaneous items here and there, coming out once with Groucho glasses, and digging again. At long last she pulled out a gorgeous clear purple rubber ball full of water and fine silver glitter. She set it in front of Florin. "Here, keep that safe." She turned to close the box and Florin tackled it, knocking it into Eienna's hind end and getting her stuck headfirst in the box. It bounced back and the growlithe caught it on his nose, sitting up like a begging dog. He lost it after a few seconds, and when he'd retrieved it he placed it in the space between Eienna and the hinged lid, climbing up on the thereby positioned ball and balancing on it. "Right then, the grand finale!!" Eienna called, muffled by the box. Florin nodded and, still on the ball, rose up to his full height on his hind legs. Eienna had a button in the box that she pushed then, causing streamers and confetti to spray from just offstage, pretty much covering them both. Florin tumbled off, more as showing off than an accident, and Eienna stood next to him, still doused in streamers. "Thank you for coming!" she cried happily. Florin woofed his agreement and she caught him up in her arms, carrying him offstage. "I am sooo poud of you, little buddy." She buried her face in his soft fur.

As the trainer left the stage, Mierlyn couldn't help but chuckle along with the rest of the crowd. That was definitely an interesting performance- the trainer's got guts. It really takes something to do what is potentially embarrassing.
The next trainer came on, did a few tricks, and got off.
Mierlyn furiously scribbled down a few last minutes notes, and then peered at the name of the next contestant. Hmmm...it sounds familiar.
"And last, but not least, please welcome Lina Swift of Lilycove, with her Ninetales, Pixie!"
---
Oh god oh god oh god oh god. How did she ever agree to this? Oh god! She wished she would just disappear right now!
"Nine nine, Ninetales!" Pixie told her excitedly, fidgeting as she watched the preceding trainer rush off the stage. Pixie was unadorned, but Lina herself was in a creamy yellow dress. The back of the dress split into nine trailing pieces which reached her ankles, all tipped with a darker orange. A ruff of fur adorned her collar. Her mom really did a fantastic job on the Ninetales dress.
Hearing her and her trainer's name. Pixie dashed onto the stage, skidding to a stop in the middle.
Lina stumbled in after Pixie, the spotlight blinding her, and the eyes of the entire room on her. Feeling extremely self-conscious, she pushed the crowd out of her mind. She's just on the beach rehearsing with Pixie, this isn't the real thing, this isn't the real thing...
"Alright Pixie, let's start this!" She said, amazing herself with how confident she sounded and how well her voice carried. Maybe this wasn't so bad...
Pixie reared her head skywards. For a moment, neither of them did anything - that was her mother's idea, to help build up a bit of suspense- then Lina pulled a flower out of her pocket. She placed it on both palms and walked forward towards the crowd, extending the hand for all to see.
Then the flower rose slightly above her, the shimmer of a psychic move seen outlining it. Behind her, Pixie's red eyes glowed slightly with the same shimmer.
The white flower floated above Lina, rising and rising and rising until it was about half-way between the ceiling and the stage. It was hard to pick out at that height, if not for its slight glow, which is more visible now that it was out of the spotlight.
Then, Pixie opened her mouth, staring at the flower intently. The glowing around the flower started expanding outwards, until there was a little glowing sphere around it.
Pixie let a stream of fire loose at the flower, surprising many of the people in the audience. The fire stayed in a straight beam towards the flower, Pixie concentrating hard to keep it under control.
Then she closed her mouth, the stream of fire stopping, with a flame still burning around where the flower used to be.
Pixie closed her eyes, concentrating. Not only was it hard for her to keep the fire going in mid-air, she was also protecting the flower from the fire, as well as keeping the flower afloat...With the signal from Lina, she can disperse the fire with a flourish, showing the crowd an undamaged flower...
Just before Lina can give the signal -by curtsying to the crowd- Pixie's strength faltered. The protect move she laid around the flower dispersed, and the fire moved in hungrily to consume the flower.
Instead of the great finish they had planned for, all that really happened was a small flare as the fire consumed the flower, and then ashes rained down upon the two contestants.
Frustrated but unable to really undo what had happened, Pixie lowered her head in a bow alongside Lina. The two then walked side-by-side off the stage.
---
Mierlyn scribbled down some final notes, stood up, and grabbed the microphone.
"And what a spectacular performance each and every one of you gave us today. It was truly a blessing to see such a talented group of young coordinators." Mierlyn looked down at her notebook, where she had written down every consideration for who should get the prize.
She looked back up to the stage, where all five contestants stood, with their Pokemon behind them.
"Unfortunately, we can only give the award to one coordinator tonight. No matter who wins though, I hope you all walk away from this having learned something new."
There was a round of applause. And once that settled, Mierlyn continue.
"So without further ado, our winner for today's Open Rank contest is...Eienna and Florin, with their unique performance! Give a hand for our two winners folks!"

Eienna's spirits had dropped slightly when she saw Lina and Pixie's act fall apart. She had really hoped they would shine. She offered the crestfallen trainer a hug. "You guys were SO close," she whispered. "Bet you'll be the star of the show next time."
When Mierlyn pronounced her the winner, Eienna nearly exploded, and Florin looked pretty proud of himself as well. She picked up Florin and the two proudly stepped up to retrieve their prize. She bowed to the crowd and thanked Mierlyn, excitedly but carefully making their exit to avoid breaking the egg. "Wonderful, buddy."
