So, has it occured to anyone else that Alanna is in a very akward situation when she is at court? She works under her old love, and everyone knows that they had a relationship, plus she knows his wife and kids.
Does this seem like an akward situation to anyone else?

Not really. After all Thayet knew about all that and Alanna doesn't always obey Jon. She has a lot of leeway being his champion and best friend. Actually not everyone knows about their relationship I don't think. After all most of it took place out in the desert when people knew she was a female and when he came back he threw himself into Josaine so the court never actually witnessed anything to my knowledge so really only close friends and possibly the servants know. After all everyone knows that the Servants know everything.

I don't think that the situation would have been awkward because she had already excepted that they weren't going to be together. The only reason it would be awkward is if she still harbored feelings for him.

I don't think anyone really knew about Jon and Alanna. When they weren't in the desert, Jon was the only person in the palace (I'm not counting Myles) who knew Alanna was a girl. The only way it would be awkward in my opinion is if Jon was every enough of a douche to bring it up again...It's behind them now.

Even though most people didn't know about it, I always thought it might be awkward every now and then. Can you imagine Aly going to Alanna for love advice and having her say, "Oh, yeah I've had some love trouble as well. In fact, your father was actually my rebound after I dumped Jonathan because I didn't want to marry him?" I'd like to see her reaction to that one.

I don't think she meant it like that, just simply that she started going for him after Jon. Although I know you're sensitive about George. xd

Yep. Rosto and George are my favorite men and I can actually write George. So I love him that much more.

I do think that's awkward...I always wondered about that, especially because no one knew about Alanna and Jon's relationship, except for George. I mean, wouldn't he be a little paranoid that Jon might still have feelings for Alanna, and vice versa? I would be.

No Jon's madly in love with Thayet and Alanna's madly in love with George. He would never be suspicious of his lass. Maybe he might be a little worried but as he points out in the end of Rampant he tamed himself a Lioness. She's always been George's it just took her a while to realize that. There's also the fact that she came back to him while she didn't come back to Jon.

That's one of my favorite parts of SotL, but then they agree that the lady of Pirate's Swoop and the Kings Champion shouldn't be tame......
I don't think it'd be awkward for the desert, and the madly-in-love with Thayet/George reasons.
Also though, I think it shows the depth of their friendship, in later books, when they can tease each other about when they were together.
Alanna and George, totally made for each other.
And @Queen of Lace- It would indeed be interesting to see Aly's reaction.

I wouldn't say it would have been awkward. Like others have said, it's likely that nobody knew for sure that Alanna and Jon were in a relationship. Josaine mentions to Alanna she heard they were lovers at one point but that could have been a court rumor that just happened to be true. Alanna, Thayet and Jon probably got used to the court rumors and gossip and laughed at the nonsense behind the scenes.
