This was nice... being out and away from all the chaos back home. Wandering in the darkness as it cloaked her, made her red coat near invisible in the gloom.
Ammemet, the little red vampire, padded around the edges of what was supposed to be Coven land, but the borders had lately been a little cloudy and uncertain. With the destruction of the dens, the pride had been thrown into chaos, and that was part of the reason she was out so far. No where near the edge of the protecting trees, but far enough that the bustle of it couldn't reach her, and hadn't for a few hours now. And in the silence left behind all the Coven's movements, she found it soothing to hear only the wind in the trees and the calls and rustles of night-born creatures.
Being away from the pride also meant that she had no duties to perform, though she'd made sure she wasn't really needed before she'd slipped off. Guard duty was suitable, but sometimes it was nice to not have to have every sense on a hair trigger, on the alert at every waking moment...
So here she was, by her lonesome, just enjoying the night as a creature who lived in it rather than the harsh light of day.

Thick streams of blood rolled down his chin and throat as he tore at the carcass of the old wildebeest. He had a few fresh scars on his forelegs from the wildebeest’s horns. Shallow cuts left after the beast tried to gore him. “You old fool, thought you could take me on,” Rasi growled at the carcass as he fed.
His mistress expected the carcass brought back to her den. Rasi felt far too proud of himself to let the whole meal go to her. He was a big lion and needed to get some real food in his stomach. Besides, he needed to lighten the load if he was to drag the beast back to the pride. Somehow he had managed to cross the boarder during his hunt. Yet, in spite of his unwitting escape, he wanted to return.
“Fancy that. I finally get out of that damned place and all I want to do now is go back and show that ******** b***h my prize. That wretched girl doesn’t deserve you. I caught you; I should have you all to myself – that’s fair, isn’t it?” He ripped off a chunk of wildebeest neck and chewed it slowly.
Strange thoughts, Rasi mused to the darkness of his mind. I don’t sound like myself anymore. Trauma changes a person, I suppose. You’re all alone out here. Who cares if you sound a little crazy? It feels good to be angry at her. When you get back you won’t be able to call her a ******** b***h anymore. Enjoy it while it lasts. What’s that?
Bloody lips peeled back, teeth gleaming wetly. He snarled in warning. “Who goes there?! This is mine, damn you, mine!”

The sound of rambling in the darkness had draw Ammemet closer in curiosity, but the harsh voice that suddenly challenged her put her hackles up and peeled her lips back from her formidable adolescent fangs. She was nearly an adult... who was this, to speak to her so?
She stepped out of cover just enough to give him something to focus on, her snarl fading to more of a sneer.
"Calm down. I have no intention of steeling your kill." The red female said, her tail flicking behind her to make the bushes rustle softly. Her violet eyes narrowed as she studied the stranger and his scars, the strange mark that decorated his face... "Who are you, anyway? You're not one of the Coven, so you should be careful who you talk to in that tone... You're trespassing on pride territory." She couldn't help pointing that out to him, still a little miffed by being challenged.

Whoever she was, Rasi knew one thing. She wanted his kill. He knew this because lately everything had been taken from him. His home, his cubs, his freedom, his dignity, his trust; all stripped away by monsters and lesser beings than himself. In his pride he was weak, of the lowest chaste, but now by some twist of fate or luck he found himself outside his pridal boarders facing down an opponent smaller and weaker than him.
“I don’t care where I am. You have no power over me.” She looked strange, this female. She did not smell like a demon… and yet…
He inched closer, staying close to his kill. His voice was somewhere between a whisper and a low growl. “What is the Coven? Are you another band of demons?”

Ammemet spat at him with a hiss, shaking her head. He was obviously a little thin in the head... how dare he challenge her, in her own territory?
"I'm a vampire, you oaf. A blood sucker, a life stealer... My Coven haunts the shadows of the jungle and drink the essence of life itself! Demon, pah!" She waved that away with a paw, even as the idea nagged at her.
"You should be more respectful, in our territory. You could find yourself assailed by shadows and left as a dry, withered husk!" She hissed, her hackles rising as he inched closer to her. Violet eyes flashing, she stayed her ground, drawing herself up proudly. She would -not- run away from him, when he was the intruder!
And here, she'd gotten away to relax a little, and she found herself in what was starting to look like a fight. Could she take him? Maybe... he was larger, and older... but since when had that ever mattered? So said the voice of youth.
