congrats. biggrin
Ya it is a repeat. But... I don't have a chair yet. Band doesn't start until Wednesday. I'm sure that the BD will be biased and put me on a higher number chair just because I'm in grade 10. (the youngest grade in our band. Its 10-12) Hopefully she'll have like "auditions" for it, 'cause I hate it when they assume you're not as good as someone else just because you're younger. I'll probably do fairly well if there are auditions for it though.

censored due to coolness my school doesn't do chairs razz weird huh? not really. i think we used to have it but not formally. and then a new teacher came around and started assigning chairs xD although I have to say sometimes not having chairs sucks.. some sophomore tried to kick me out of first chair for marching band (I was section leader) because he said he was "better". Yeah ok, maybe, but our marching band didn't go by playing skill, it went by seniority. what a jerk D:

Last year (9th) I was fourth :3 For marching this year, I'm considered third.
We haven't had auditions yet this year. I'll edit this when I find out my new chair.

They just assume that someone will play it better. I know a good way to get better chairs though: Show up early for band and "show off" a little. Play some advanced stuff that you know other people in your section won't be able to play. That's my plan for the first rehearsal tomorrow. I know I have basically no chance at first chair though, I'm not grade 12. Yes, the BDs at my school are very biased.

Older students have more experience, which can make all the difference. There are exceptions, of course, but mostly younger musicians don't play as well. We don't have chairs either. My BD last year decided to just give out parts and when we got new music he switched parts for everybody. I think it really helped in getting other players who tend to not to practice to do so when they got 1st. Though us percussionists don't do chairs anyways, we just divide up the parts to what we want to play.

I'm only in 7th grade, so we don't have chairs. I have been told by my fellow band students and BD that I'm the best french horn player in my grade level, so I would probably be first chair.

In middle school I was first, but we don't really have chairs, we just have different parts (1st trombone, 2nd trombone, 3rd trombone/baritone is how low brass is divided) I'm one of two 1st trombones. then there are two 2nds and one 3rd. ******** the sound pyramid. Basically the SL is on 1st whatever they play, and they'd be first chair, and then others on first part would be second, and so on down the sound pyramid (******** it, by the way. but good players on 1st and sucky players on 3rd.)
