No.
It's not going to happen.
There have been predictions of sunspots in 2012, electrical appliances will become useless...but only for a few weeks. After that we're home free.
I'm sure society will survive for a few weeks on Cup Ramen cooked over an open flame.

No I don't think the wold will end then, humans may die out but the world will keep spinning without us. People love to be scared and they'll make a big deal about things that sound scary but don't understand.
Example: people are all freaked out about the giant solar flare, what they don't know is that solar flares like that happen every once in a while in fact we had one around the turning of the century. And nothing happened.
by the way the actual remaining Mayans themselves don't believe their own calendar will predict the end of the world.

Maybe someone really did get the end of the world right. Maybe nothing will happen. Maybe we'll just lose electricity. Maybe.

Nothing happened for Y2K, not even a power bump, and 2012 will likely be the same. There was an interesting special on the History Channel about it which suggested that the Mayan Calander ended on a predicted astral alignment in which the entire solar system was supposed to cross the galactic equator - an event which may cause a rapid pole shift and untold global havoc. Either way expect to see me sporting an "I survived 2012" T-shirt in 2013. lol

the mayan prediction is quite what people make it out to seem, so i'm told...
when the calender was made, somebody just filled out a couple thousand years in advane. probably some overenthusiastic scribe i'd imagine, just sitting around filling out year after year. and then it ends cuz maybe he got tired or maybe he died, or maybe he just forgot.
nostradamus predictions aren't what they seem either. they are so metaphorical and mystical that you could apply them to almost anything. my favorite was on tv a few years back when bush was president. it was a prediction about the great antichrist/evil lord coming, named "mabus." the show was making out that it could be two people, osama bin laden and pres bush. now they're making it out to be someone else. rolleyes

2012 will not be the year the world will in.
Some people believe that because of the war between Iraq and the USA and other shitty stuff happening in the world means that 2012 will be the year. They predicted Y2K and that never happened. How many times have the predicted that the world will end since 2000? maybe like 17.

I definitely don't believe in that....It makes no sense. There has been said that the only thing that will end is the mayan calendar, Because the mayas, who are the creators of that calendar,Only made it up to Dec, 21,2012, So possibly thats the only thing that might end. ninja

It's an absolutely ridiculous theory. The only way that the world could end on that exact date is if there was a nuclear war or other manmade disaster. Ofcourse, that could happen at any second so worrying about that specific date is just preposterous.

So far the closest interpretation of the mayan hiroglyphics states that this AGE will end. NOT the world itself. The media usually misconstrues this to 1. Scare people and 2. get better ratings.
