Okay! I have been working on this for a while... Even though I should have gotten it done way sooner. But now I am almost done with it but still have to remaster it afterwards.
This whole thing is a novel, but is never intended for publication mainly because...well it's mostly a tribute book and something for me to help me organize my ideas on. The tribute goes to famed animator Shadowleggy. And the organization is part of a series I'm writing called Never Ending War. I am making a few more of these tributes to her to help me experiment with my writing a bit and figure out how to balance the action with the story.

So far, Chapters 1-9 are done. But chapters 10-14 are finished, but are yet to be typed.

Chapter 1

It was a simple patrol. That was it, take a quick walk around the area then report back to HQ. But it never is simple in war. Never easy, never a guarantee that even a small mission wouldn’t end in death. The unfortunate outcome came for Seargent Hunter. His unit was taking their patrol to the woods. Tired and sore they sat down against the trees to rest. Everyone except Hunter, who knew something, was up, and he kept moving his eyes around and searching for a small sign of movement. All of a sudden, a rustling came and Hunter quickly snatched the pistol out of its holster and fired where it came from. The bullet merely hit a Largema, a green flat bodied creature with 4 legs that had red 3 toed feet and blue wide antenna like horns.

“We can’t stay here; we need to move, now.” Hunter said with a stern voice commanding his unit.

“Relax Hunter; it was just a Largema, they’re harmless.” The reply came from Jones. Jones wasn’t like Hunter, he was never cautious, never ready for whenever something bad was about to happen. And worst of all, he never cared. Jones, despite the regulations of stealth, decided to make his hair into a mohawk, said it complimented his courage. Hunter shot him a look that told him “Get up and shut up” Jones frowned, but complied.

“Hey Hunter, are we gonna have to raid any camps?” the question came from Sykes. Sykes was “green”. He was new to the military and this was pretty much his first patrol. He was always worried about dying on the battle field, in fact he jumped when the Largema came, holding his rifle tightly. He always wore his army helmet; reason was he thought that safety was important then killings. Hunter glanced at him for a moment.

“No, we spent too much time here; we must head back to HQ.” Hunter said and with haste, he was grabbing his rifle and signaling everyone to do the same. So the unit did, with Jones picking it up lazily, Sykes picking his hastily and almost dropping it in the process. Hunter then looked at his supervisor, and temporary unit member Gunfire, whom was reading a file on him and his unit. Gunfire was only there to make sure the patrol with the new recruit would come out safly, normally a more official supervisor would come instead but because of all the new recruits being used to support the army, there wasn’t many left.

“Gunfire, our unit is ready to move out; does the same apply to you?” Hunter asked reloading his rifle. Gunfire in response, nodded, and placed the file in the pocket of his black long coat. Gunfire wasn’t one to talk much, only if it required to. He had black hair, a similar color to Jones. They all wore the same military soldier uniforms, except Gunfire, whom was more of a commander and had worn a black longcoat and boots.

As they moved through the forest Hunter spotted something from the corner of his eye.

“Get down,” Hunter whispered crouching near a tree. Everyone did the same except Jones who sighed in annoyance and looked his head around.

“Why? There’s nothing here bu-“KABANG! Jones hit the ground. “Everyone, return fire NOW!” Hunter exclaimed. Everyone reacted even Jones, who was hit in the shoulder by a rifle. Sykes nervously shot at incoming patrol with his rifle, but because of his shaky grip he mostly hit the trees but in return demoralized some of the soldiers, as they paniced from the bullets richocheting off the trees. Hunter took his survival knife out of its pouch and hid to the trees, moving along the branches ready to pounce on one of the attackers. He then signaled Gunfire who quickly ran along the bark of one tree, bounced off it, and then opened fire a rain of bullets through the two rifles in his hands. Gunfire then hit the ground and retreated to the bushes. Four troops hit the ground dead, and three had injuries that stopped them from moving. Then like a bird, Hunter flew off the branch from a jump and dropped behind one of them. He ran the blade off one of the attackers’ throats only to find armor plating against it. “Damn it,” Hunter exclaimed, and then he pulled his pistol and fired at the attacker. Only two were left. CLANK! Hunter looked down and saw a grenade right against his feet. Hunter broke in a cold sweat and quickly kicked the grenade away. He looked over to see where it came from, and it was one of the injured. Hunter decided not to waste anymore ammo and ran over, and kicked the injured across the face. Hunter looked around, and noticed something odd. “Jones and Sykes are missing, where could they have gone?” Hunter thought.

Gunfire then came crashing through the trees, and hit the ground and got up on his feet, pushing leaves on his coat away.

“They both got captured, Sykes and Jones, taken by the attackers” Gunfire exclaimed while breathing heavily.

“Can you go search for them?” Hunter asked looking over at where Sykes and Jones should’ve been.

“Yes, but where are you going to go?” Gunfire asked getting up and applying a healing gel to a shotgun wound.

“I’m going to track where the attackers came from; there must be a camp or base of operations”

“I’m going with you then, that must be where they were placed”

“No, the camp is to the north and Sykes and Jones were taken to the south”

“I see, so you’re sure you won’t need my help?”

“I could use some incendiary grenades; I may need them if I am to destroy the camp.” And so Gunfire handed Hunter 3 incendiary grenades.

“I’d give you more, but I may need some to destroy the prison where they are keeping Sykes and Jones.”

“Fine, farewell then” And so Gunfire and Hunter went to the two different directions.

Hunter then stopped to take a look at the attackers. They wore black coverall armor, each had a gasmask. There was also an insignia on it. A purple crow with a spear across it facing upwards. He recognized it anywhere; Decaxtica was what it was called. Now Hunter knew what he was up against. And if Decaxtica was involved, then there would be no camp, but an outpost. He quickly packed up and moved out and followed the trails where the troops came from.

“Yeah so I heard there was something big about a new project”

“I heard it too, in fact I got an email about it, saying they’d give extra credentials to those who patricipate.” Hunter heard the chatter and quickly dove for the bushes near by.

“I heard it’s a brand new weapon, some kind of giant flying fortress.”

“Yeah, well that just makes the job sweeter, what better job to do then guard something that’s a weapon AND a fortress” Hunter had a sick feeling in his stomach. What kind of weapon was this? And what was it going to be used on? Hunter knew that if he let any guards support the project then it would just make the war hellish. If he destroyed the outpost maybe he may postpone the project.

Then all of a sudden, a flash of light came out of nowhere and when it ended Hunter turned to the direction it came from. It seemed that a person had come from the flash. Hunter took out his binoculars and took a closer look. It was a woman, had long brown hair, blue shirt and pants, although something was odd about the clothing. It wasn’t like what is worn normally. It didn’t matter anyways, Hunter knew that if he didn’t act soon those guards were gonna kill the civilian and Hunter wasn’t the kinda person who likes casulties. Hunter then quickly pulled out the survival knife and jumped towards the outpost.

Chapter 2

It was strange how quickly things could change in a flash. And this was exactly one of those strange things. Ending up in the middle of a forest in some outpost was not the idea Leggy had in mind of a busy day. And for one thing, the sound of the alarms ringing certainly didn't make it any better. Leggy had no idea how she ended up in the strange land. Just that one day she was working on some animations and the next second a flash came and another second later she ended up here. She had a feeling the troops running around the area weren't friendly employees so she ducked down the bushes. All of a sudden, she heard a crackle from the area on the left, and then came a mysterious man sneaking around with a pistol in one hand and what looked like a grenade in the other.

The man had brown hair, his eyes covered by the shadows of the buildings and was wearing some form of military uniform. Leggy mostly focused her attention at the grenade he had, and wondered how big of a blast it would make. Suddenly, the man made his move, and the building hit by the explosive had bursted in a flame that raged on inside. The screams of the troops in the bunker had echoed from the flames, and the troops outside were alarmed. Leggy backed in a metal shack, which appeared to be an armory. Only, the weapons were none she had ever seen. One was what looked like a heavily modified pistol with a tank at the back containing some kind of green liquid. Another was a set of grenades much like what the man had except with an odd insignia.

The insignia had a gray wolf with a spear cast through it. Leggy had no time to ponder the insignia however, as the sound of the troops gathered closer she quickly searched for a weapon and picked the pistol with the green liquid. She then hid behind a crate.

"I think I saw something move" echoed a voice from a communicator.

"It's probably nothing, we need to take care of the intruder before he kills anymore of our men" came another.

"AGH!" a grunt came outside. Leggy took a peak with the pistol in hand, only to find the mysterious man holding one of the troops with black steel armor and a helmet in a chokehold. The other one was found dead, blood on his throat.

"Who are you?" the man asked, breaking the soldier he was holding's neck.

"My name is…Leggy" Leggy replied nervously holding the pistol tightly.

"Careful with that weapon, its an acid launcher. My name is Hunter, and I'm a member of the United Planets Military." replied the man looking around his surroundings.

"I found an armory here, is there anyway to escape this camp?" Leggy asked.

"There is, we can move out by taking one of the hovercrafts and crashing through the gate, but I have to destroy this place and search for any prisoners here" Hunter replied

"Have you used a gun before Leggy?"

"Couple times, why?"

"I may need your help here"

Suddenly, 5 more of the black armored troops had surrounded the area.

"Behold the beauty of C10" Hunter murmured pressing a button on a detonator

Multiple explosions came and consumed the soldiers, while Hunter had stared at the fires blazing he seemed to had something on his mind. Leggy knew now this guy was skilled in combat, but could he be trusted? It all seemed strange, the weapons, the soldiers, but she knew this must've been a war of a sort. Question was, what exactly was the other planets?

Leggy suddenly pulled the trigger of the acid pistol at one of the surviving soldiers. The screams were drowned down by the acid burning through the armor and flesh.

"Good shot, now let's head to the camp, there you will receive a combat injection"

"Might I ask what that is?"

"It's a synthetic DNA that is desinged to give the host the knowledge of combat and skills required on the battlefield."

"And how do they know this works?"

"Over 85% of the army sprang up overnight because of these"

As Hunter and Leggy had walked down the forest Hunter rolled up his sleeve and stared at the the several metal wristbands that had names embroidered on them.

"Who were they?" Leggy asked

"There dead soldiers, I collect every dog tag I can so that there deaths are remembered, and I always request the names are placed in wrist bands so that they may be remembered at least by me." Hunter answered.

Leggy casted a glance towards the horizon and saw a few buildings.

"Is that the checkpoint?"
"Yes, hopefully, Gunfire made it back with some good news."

"Gunfire?"

"He's a commander for the army, also my supervisor for this mission, he came to help insure the recruits were safe."

"And were they?"
"We had an ambush, the two recruits were captured, only I and Gunfire remained and Gunfire insisted on going to find them, I decided to blow up the encampment where those soldiers were"

"I see, out of curiousity, where exactly am I?"
"Your on planet Kalakos, in war territory."

"Is this some kind of joke?"
"No ma'am, war is not a joking situation. Although few realize it"

"Okay… what war is this then?"
"The 300 year war that has gone out since 2713"

Leggy thought for a moment, if it was 300 years of war then that would mean she was in 3013. She couldn't believe it. It must've been just a dream. It had to. Leggy looked up at the sky which appeared normal.
"Where the hell am I?" were the only words she could think.

Chapter 3

"Argh, where the hell are we?" Sykes groaned. His head was throbbing, and it didn't make it any better that he had found himself in a cell. The cell had a gray metal sheen, along with a few guards to go with it. Sykes looked around, oddly enough, Jones wasn't with him. He looked around to the other cells and didn't see him there. He then casted his glance towards one of the guards. The guard, like most of them in the field, wore a gas mask, as well as a trench coat, boots, and a standard Series 3 M13 Assault Rifle.

"Hey, is there anyone else here besides me? Like another soldier?" he asked. The guard only grunted and in an almost annoyed voice he said "Only scum here is you."

Sykes then sat down, tired. He suddenly heard foot steps. He looked up and saw a man with blue hair with the front part pointing upwards. His eyes' iris glowed yellow, and he was in some kind of armor placed in layers.

"Who is he, and what he is doing in MY prison" he asked one of the guards.

"Sir, we ambushed him and his team, although we only managed to recover two of them, the rest of them escaped, with the lives of our comrades sir"

"Have you sent a team to follow them?"

"No sir, but we are sending an attack squad to attack one of there checkpoints"

"Who was on there squadron?"

"Well there was only a few recruits, and a commander."
"Who?"

"Well… Gunfire sir. But you have to understand it was tough to captu- AGH!"

"Impudent fool, it would be him who would be in my grasp and not you."

"Please….sir…you have to under…stand…we couldn't handle them….agh…"

"Why didn't you alarm me? Impudence and nothing more"
CRACK! Suddenly the man had thrown the guard to the side after snapping his neck. While he had thrown him, Sykes couldn't believe what he saw. The man had a large sword strapped to his back. The blade had looked as if it was 5' and the handle 2'.

The man turned to take a glance at Sykes, who knew he couldn't fight him off, he was a recruit, not ready to take on someone like him.

"Hello, enemy, my name is Azakora." he said to Sykes with a smile. Sykes didn't say a word.

"No need to be rude, I'm here to collect some information." Azakora continued.

"I don't know anything, I'm just a recruit." Sykes responded. It probably wasn't the best idea he had.

"Hmm, well I can’t just let you pollute my cells. I guess I'm just going to have to take care of you myself"

Suddenly, Azakora had reached for his large blade, and in a split second, he had drawn it out and split the bars of the cell in half.

"Damn it." Sykes muttered, even though he knew that wouldn't help him now.

Azakora moved in closer, his blade at his side, Sykes had to think fast. Sykes then figured out what to do. "DIE!" Azakora had shouted as he made a horizontal slash. Sykes quickly dove pass him and grabbed the assault rifle the fallen guard had. RATATATATATATA! The bullets flew in the air and hit Azakora's armor, but not leaving a scratch. Azakora turned around with a sick grin still on his face as he made a vertical slash to the ground. Sykes knew he had no choice, he quickly dove to his left and got up and ran down the hallways, looking for an exit. As he ran deeper and deeper he could hear Azakora's sick laughter echoing and following him. Sykes was moving faster, but it felt as if Azakora knew where he was, and that he was right next to him. This only made Sykes go faster, until he had finally found the exit.

"Yes, now to warn Hunt-" THWACK!

Sykes had been thrown 12' away by the back of Azakora's blade. As he landed he looked back and saw Azakora was ready to make the final move.

"Well, that was certainly eventful, now to put you out of your misery you little mouse." Azakora said lightly as he lifted his sword up.

"No, it can't end like this… not now" Sykes could feel himself cry. As the sword had slowly came down to him, it was the last tear he would ever shed.

Chapter 4

Hunter and Leggy had later on reached the check point. After the synthetic DNA was placed in Leggy, as well as a refresher for Hunter, there was also tests to make sure the DNA had succeeded.

"So, now what?" Leggy asked.

"Now, they give you a few training dummies for you practice on to get used to the new skills in combat you have." Hunter then looked over to the shed where they kept the dummies.

"You'll get started on melee practice, such as disarming, counter-strike, and other CQC tactics."
"What about long range? Such as using a gun?" Leggy had a feeling the best way to survive in this war was to know how to use a gun. However, Hunter only smiled.

"Melee is just as important as gun practice, especially disarming and counter strike."

Leggy also wanted to smile but then she noticed Hunter had frowned as he stared up in the sky.

"What's wrong?" she asked.

"Ever feel something is just… missing? Like gone forever and something had taken it away? But you have no idea what it was?" Hunter pondered.

"Few times, but… what do you think is missing?"

"I fear that the more I think of it, the more it seems the answer is… gone because of me. It doesn't matter, we should continue practice."

As practice had gone on, a couple of the guards were talking.

"Hey, check this out I'm getting hostiles on the radar."

"No way, most of the camps are defensive"
"I'm not kidding, check it out."

"Damn, you sure it isn't malfunctioning?"

"They just did the daily maintenance an hour ago."

"Sound the alarms then, we need to prepare".

Hunter frowned, and then he looked up at the sky saying "I'll deal with you later".

"What's going on now?" Leggy asked.

"We're under attack." Hunter picked up a rifle.

"What should I do?"

"Grab a gun, reload, and pass the ammunition"

In about an hour later the soldiers had arrived. Leggy was hidden under a small crawlspace with a sniper rifle in hand. Hunter was on the watch tower with the same gun. The army attacking met with the army defending, and bullets were flying everywhere. Eventually bodies were dropping as the battle went on, some became reckless and charged onto break the defense, some succeeded. Meanwhile Leggy was sniping each and every soldier she saw, at a very fast and accurate rate as well.

"The synthetic DNA must have been better then they thought" Leggy muttered.

Hunter however, was dealing with some problems of his own, he had found other snipers from the attacking army, and they found him. It was difficult for him to snipe them out because now the battle had progressed to the point where everyone was scattered. Hunter had then saw a soldier hanging from the bridge to the tower.

"Hang on, I'm coming" Hunter sprinted his way to the soldier. As he pulled him up he looked up to see the battle.

"Sir what do we do?" The soldier asked.

"We keep fighting till the bastards die and rot.

"Sir look out!"

"huh? AGH!"

Leggy couldn't see what was happening above. She knew she had to move out of the crawlspace before she was found. As she moved up and took cover by a metal crate she noticed something above the bridge. Hunter was there, but he was clutching his head like he had been shot. Leggy took a look to the opposite direction and saw the snipers. "Time to shine" she said mounting the sniper on the top of the crate and aiming. Leggy then realized the sniper rifle was empty. "Damn, guess it’s time for that disarming tactic." Leggy quickly ran up to a soldier and grabbed the nose of the rifle and pushed it upward toward the sky, then with her other arm she elbowed the soldier in the stomach and took his rifle. The soldier, now weaponless and afraid, ran away from the battle.

Even though Hunter's eye was shot, he could still see well with the other, and he was impressed at how Leggy was dealing with the situation. Hunter tore a piece of cloth from the neck part of his shirt, then wrapped it around his head to cover his shot eye.

"Ok, now I'm pissed." Hunter jumped down from the bridge and onto the battlefield, his hands out and ready for CQC. After disarming one, he struck another with the butt of the rifle.

Both Leggy and Hunter kept the battle from a loss, although Hunter had noticed that Leggy seemed to have her skills boosted more then normal. "She has the talent I guess," Hunter then looked at the horizon. They were retreating, but he wasn't done yet. He grabbed all the grenades from his belt and launched them all in a rain towards the retreating army.

"That was for my eye".

Finally both Leggy and Hunter could rest, but for how long?
