Personally, I prefer Dub, Reggae, Ska, and Punk. Dub and Reggae for when I really wanna chill, Ska for when I'm feeling very energetic and feel like laughing , and Punk for when I feel like protesting or expressing my disagreement with America's government.
My big 3 bands are 311, Slightly Stoopid, and Authority Zero.
How about some input everyone? What do YOU listen to?

Personally? Lots of different stuff. I've got pretty wide musical taste that really runs a gamut - there's almost nothing I don't like aside from R&B and the whiny variants of Country. My MP3 playlist on my computer at home has punk, ska, reggae, rap, industrial, rock, classic rock, techno, happy hardcore, pop, country, video game music remixes, instrumental variants of other songs, international music (Japanese, Chinese, various European languages I don't understand), a really pretty version of the Chant of Metta...all kinds of things.
I just really like music, to be honest. 3nodding

I'm with Byaggha - I'm a music student, and I enjoy finding music that I like in a wide variety of genres. However, one thing that I've noticed is that no matter how large my collection of "music that I like" gets, I can never find anything decent to listen to on the radio. rolleyes
Rather like you, SkaPigeon, she stuff I listen to changes with my mood, but some of my all-time favorites include original-wave punk (Clash, Sex Pistols, Ramones, etc), opera, romantic period music, old-fashioned rock n roll (Elvis, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry), reggae, some folk, some "alternative"like Gorillaz, and various kinds of "world" music.
P.S. Byaggha, that Chant of Metta thing sounds pretty awesome. Any idea where/how I could find that?

Well, I'm a huge Bob Dylan fan (see siggie). I also like U2, Hole, a Canadian singer named Bif Naked, and The White Stripes.
After that it's just a huge selection of anything from classic country to musicals to japanese bands. I like me some variety!

I listen to pretty much everything. Though the biggest genre I listen very little of is that hardcore Rap stuff. Other than that, I listen to everything from Jazz, Classical, Ambient, Techno, Electronica, Pop, R&B, Rock, Big Band/Swing, Oldies, and cultural/ethnic musics. I love listening to music in other languages. I really like instrumental music from all genres and especially soothing flute music.

Though I have a strict criteria. 1. Meaningful lyrics 2. Talented Musicians(I do not like sythesized music because it takes the work away from it and allows half-assed, mediocre 'artists' to rip off of other people with real talent) 3. If the chord progression is boring, the song is boring.

I like Contemporary, Alternative Rock, Classic Rock, R&B <-- I love singing ^.^. I like Rap but Rap that says something and isn't just to make money. I love Common he's one of my favorite rappers, I am from Chicago gotta stick with my roots xd . I use to be really big into Metal/Heavy Metal 5-8 years ago. Not sure how that happened but I was. Opera I like a lot biggrin , Jazz, Blues...
I like Duncan Sheik, he's a Soka Gakkai buddhist <3. And I've met the Jazz musician Bubba Jackson (another buddhist).
I suppose I just like a lot of music. There is no particular genre. I'm very open-minded to all music.

I listen to mostly alternative. i have some rock, light metal, and very little punk. I LOVE listening to african music. The Lion King broadway got my started, and now i listen to it when i can. Indian music also has my interest.
I think my favorite artists would have to be Avril Lavigne, All-American Rejects, and Evanescence.

卍 The quieter you become, the more you can hear.
Most of the music I listen to falls under the vast category that is rock, but I love most kinds of music. The only stuff I don't like seems to be some modern pop and rap songs. My favorite bands are Metallica, The Pillows, Maximum the Hormone, and The Who. I also believe in rock 'n' roll and that music can save your mortal soul.*
*American Pie reference.
May you attain enlightenment. 卍

I have, rather hillariously, rediscovered metal and am now hugging the soundtrack to Brutal Legend.
Manowar makes me giggle, what can I say. xd

I like anything that has a good tune, symphonic metal is one of my most favourite things ever. Haggard is a good example of this. Other bands I like are Amorphis and Samael.
I like reggae, any kind of reggae, all reggae. If it's playing and it's reggae I like it. Now that I have written out reggae so many times it has lost all meaning.
Ayreon is basically my favourite band *ever*. They play rock operas. : )
A perfect circle, red hot chili peppers, and cat empire are the other ones I can think of off the top of my head.
