Okay, it was definitely starting to get late now. Skadi rose to her feet and begun pacing back and forth, tail twitching angrily from side to side. Where was that old bone-tosser? Skadi had waited here more or less since morning, but when her aunt hadn't shown up like she should have, she had left in a huff and eaten a bit, and then begun asking around a little. She had figured that if the crazy old lady had managed to forget that she was supposed to meet with her, she would finally have a good enough reason to flatten her aunt a little bit. Get her back for... all the times when she had gotten under Skadi's skin. Or something. But no one had seemed to know where she was. In fact, it seemed almost as though no one had even seen old Skuld for about two days or something. So she had gone back to wait. What else could she do? Maybe her aunt would show up, late but with some ooga-booga excuse that her bones had told her to... be late. Because... the spirits wanted to teach Skadi a lesson in patience. Or something along those lines. But the day was almost over, and there hadn't been so much as a message from her aunt. The uneasiness that had crept into her skin when she had asked around only seemed to grow by the hour, and now... Well.... By now, she was definitely worried. Worried, and quite angry about it.

As upset and angry as she was towards those who had been leaving the pride, especially a certain someone whose name she refused to speak or even think about now, Shinda's bad temper was slowly cooling over time, and the usual frown that had been on her maw for the past week was replaced with a stoic expression. Time heals all wounds, she vaguely remembered someone teaching her, one of her Minders...No. She would not think of that. She had to forget all the unhappy things that had been happening lately.
Of course, Shinda thought, it wasn't easy. The pride was starting to buzz with unease due to the decreasing numbers of prey, because of the Dhati. As the name crossed her mind, she had to fight back a growl. If she had spoken it, there was sure to be a healthy amount of venom maliciously uttered with that word.
Patrols were now stepped up, and Shinda, as always, kept a sharp eye as she prowled about. She wasn't about to let anyone else sneak away on her watch, oh no indeed.

Skadi's ears perked up when she heard the approach of another lion, but she quickly realised that it could not very well be her aunt. The steps were a bit too quick and a bit too heavy for that - but still she couldn't help but wait attentively until the other came into view.
And when she did, Skadi's ears twitched downwards for a moment. The warleader's daughter looked about as grim and annoyed as Skadi had felt, just a moment ago. Shinda had inherited something of the imposing presence of her father, and Skadi, from having felt like growling and snapping at any lion that happened to speak to her, found herself feeling almost apprehensive as the Warleader's daughter approached.
But it would be too rude to let the other lioness just pass by without so much as a word, now that they had seen each other, and besides, Skadi's skin still prickled with uncomfortably nervous worry. It couldn't hurt to ask, right? She took a small step towards Shinda and lowered her ears apologetically.
"Um... Excuse me... Did you happen to see an old lioness, somewhere back there? Blue spots, kinda the same colour as my stripes...?"

Her eyes flickered towards the lioness who had approached her, attempting to identify who she was. This lioness wasn't one of the Heart, nor the Claw, just a mere Follower (For now. There was never knowing what rank she might ascend to in the future.) but yes, a member of the Mizimu'Tungika.
"No." She said dryly, answering the question after she had identified her as the member of the pride. "Could be one of those who fled off to join the Dhati." She was displeased at the thought of yet another member leaving the Mizimu'Tungika for those traitors, and wondered how many exactly had gone. It wouldn't be easy to do a headcount in a big pride like the Mizimu.

Only the fact that it was the Warleader's daughter, and as such a well-established warrior and figure of some authority who had said it, prevented Skadi from saying something rude in the heat of the moment. The truth was that the mere notion of defection - of her aunt's defection, at that! - hadn't even really crossed her mind until now. She had heard about the border skirmishes, and sensed the smell of brewing tension in the air, she had even heard the name "Dhati" muttered and grumbled, these last few days (and she had been rather happy to finally have a name and a reason for all that unrest and seemingly "bad luck" that had befallen the Mizimu as of late), but that some Mizimu lions may have willingly chosen to chose the side of these so-called rebels, joining a fight that would surely pit them against their own kinsmen?
The mere notion was laughable, ridiculous, outright stupid!
...And yet... Because she couldn't outright refuse the idea in Shinda's face - and also much because of the very sincerely bitter tone of the Warrior's voice, Skadi felt the idea take hold in her head. Like a horribly large and festering tick, it inserted it's jaws into her mind and begun draining her of all that she thought she had known.
In the end, all that she managed by way of reply was a rather feeble-sounding "Buh... Wuh-what? Def... defected?!"

Shinda waited until her reply had fully sank in into the other. Really, she could have just walked on, continuing her patrol and dismissed the other but it was rather...amusing to see the impact of her words on the Follower. Had she been like that when she had left? Oh, no matter. She had banned herself from thinking such unpleasant things...but it wasn't as if it was working really, with everything that was happening so far. Perhaps a tiny bit of her sympathized with Skadi because she knew how she felt. Just a very small, insignificant bit of her that Shinda deemed weak and did not show that emotion on her face.
"It's no surprise, really. Quite...a few have left already." Those traitors would pay for betraying their pride, she thought fiercely. If they had left any family here, they would certainly bring shame to them. How imprudent and rash their actions were! Even she herself saw no meaning in leaving the pride even though she didn't like Jini'chongo. It was positively stupid.

"I... That's... But..." Skadi's front paws paced restlessly at the ground, as if physically trying to help her to place the world back where it should be. Then her head begun shaking, and she couldn't help but grin. "No, it can't be. This is my aunt we're talking about, here. She's been a Scryer for the Mizimu'tungika for, like, ever! She wouldn't just... leave, just like that. Not without at least-"
She cut herself off and her smile died on her face as she relived her latest encounter with Skuld in vivid detail. She had wanted to talk about something, hadn't she? And all that concern, those strange questions... Skadi suddenly felt as though her paws had sunk into a freezing mountain stream. She shook her head again, but much more slowly, and without any trace of mirth left on her features.
"No... no. Not Skuld. Not leaving the Mizimu'tungika. Why would she do that?"
She was, by now, speaking more to herself than to Shinda, but she still looked at the Warleader's daughter as if the other lioness could somehow answer her questions.
