I just had the spiffiest, most awsome idea. Using an ammunitions or first aid bag as a purse. Or some other type of functional leather or canvas bag. Some people (me) need something to their crap in so purselessness isn't really an option. Okay, it's not THAT cool, but it does solve the problem of having kickass outfits ruined by Hello Kitty purses.

It sounds like an awesome idea! You might be able to DIY a Steampunk bag out of canvas if you can sew.

When I carry one, which isn't often really, I use an old gas-mask bag for a purse.
If you have an army surplus store nearby, I wouldn't think they would be too expensive. Finding would be your biggest problem. I lucked out and recieved mine when my brother cleaned his room.

Ah, this makes me so glad I was able to find the bag I have right now. It's a vintage, artisan-made (learned this from a French leatherworker who took a look at it, don't you know) deep burgundy red satchel. Got it for €20, too, from a local secondhand/vintage shop. The lady in charge clearly didn't know what a treasure she was selling.
Err, excuse my shameless bragging. Perhaps it would be a wise idea for you to take a look in shops such as the one I got mine from? Obviously the selections can be quite haphazard sometimes, being as they get single items from whom and where no-one knows, but I've found some nice items from time to time.

There's a girl at my university with that green cross bag. Also, there is an army surplus store withing walking distance of my school, and a vintage shop that has yet to reveal promise.

Definitely check out army surplus stores online and off. I'm currently using a surplus map bag that I got from Silberman's as a diaper bag xd
