What's your opinion on a Ouija Board?
OMG, get that THING out of my house!
  It's okay, I don't use them though.
I personally like them. I have no problem using them.
Hahaha! What a fake hoax. Who would believe that's real?
Never tried one, and don't want to.
Never tried one, but I would like to.
  ZOMG, A GHOST!

I'm seeing so many diferent people saying that Ouija Boards are evil and bring wretched things int your home and open portals and stuff.
This isn't entirely true.

Ouija boards are sold at children's stores because they are just that, a chunk of cardboard with letters on it.

Where the stories of it being evil come from is how it is used and what the intentions are.
If you purposefully use it to talk to a negative entity, its a given, trouble is going to happen. If you don't know (or think you know) what you're doing, chances are, you don't.

The main thing is that if you don't know who you're talking to, or you're not talking to a trusted, reliable spirit that you know will not cause harm (because negative entities CAN LIE) then you are asking for trouble.

I've used Ouija Boards for years to speak to specific spirits that I know personally, or I ask them to be mediators for other spirits I don't know so well. Nothing bad has entered my home, nor have I had any bad experiences or vibes from the board.

The only two times I have ever had problems was when I was naive and made a Ouija Board out of a dry-earse board and kept it out in the open under my bed. Don't do that.
The other time was when My friend who was accompaning me was attempting to contact one of the spirits I'm close with, but instead came into contact with something else that wasn't so nice because she didn't know what she was doing. It was my fault for not teaching her properly.

A Ouija Board is like a pay phone on the side of a busy city street. When you call it, anyone can answer and say that they are someone that they are not. I usually ask a question only they would know to validate whether or not that I'm speaking to the intended spirit.

These are the steps that I normally take when using a Ouija board.

*Light some white candles, like tea candles. White symbolizes purity, so it gives a god, calm feeling. Plus, spirits favour heat and light of a flame. Burning some sage would be good too.

*Say sort of prayer, whether it'd be religious or a blessing. Pretty much self exclamitory.

*Know exactly who you wish to speak to or have a trusted spiritual source standing by to act as a filter. Ask an in-depth question you know the answer to to pove who they really are.

*If the platchette starts at "A" and is just going through the alphabet, stop it. Its a negative energy trying to butt in. Same goes with the four corners of the board.

*When you are done, or have to take a break, no matter how long, point the plachette to "Goodbye". It's like hanging up the telephone. Don't leave the board unattended.

*Put the board back in the box upside-down just in case. I keep a rosary and an item or two with strong, positive energy in there with it.

That's pretty much all I have left to say. Please feel free to state your opinion, tactics, and so forth.

Can it be any prayer or does it have to be specific?

Whine Flu
A plastic play toy opening up a portal to hell...
I'm sure by now some kid would of *accidentally* opened up a portal for the devil to enslave the human race.

I've tried this board many times alone and it never worked.

I have yet to hear baby heads being torn off due to their ignorant parents buying them a board with letters on it.

The Ouija board just leaves you paranoid after using it.
And that's the entire marketing ploy, curiosity sells.

I always ask these Ouija board believers to do it in front of me while I vid them. Nobody has accepted yet.
I wonder why? cool

Perhaps my presence is scary and I deter spirits. P;

Could it not also be that they are BELIEVERS in the power of the ouija board and are scaried of using it. If you believe there are sharks in the water you don't go swimming.

If you are so interested in using it and recording it, why not set up a video camera and use one your self? That why you could control everything and would be able to find out where the stories are true or not.

I can't believe you actually want something like that to happen. It's insane.

If you want to take responsibility for it that look it up yourself, don't ask others to advice you in how put yourself in danger. And do you really think it's that easy to get rid of something once you have let it through? 'drive them to the nearest church for a prayer'? You really think people would be so scared of the darker side of life it it was that easy to deal with it?

You say you want to believe well fine, go and train with your ouija board. Teach yourself to open the portals and learn to get what you want but don't involve those that already believe. You may not believe that there will be any side effects but they do and believe that something will happen can incase the changes of it happening.

Yes I am saying that 'toy' can open a portal because it is the belief that people have in using the board that open things up. If you use it and believe that it will open the portal you will open the portal, however if you beleive nothing will happen nothing will happen.

Ouija boards have been record through history, through out the world as being used to open portals to the other side, why should where you got it from or what it's made of made a diffence as to the results? Seek the truth also means being open to the possiblely of anything happening. If you are so sure nothing will happen then then how can you be open to the things that may happen?

Good and evil, light and dark, God and the Devil come down the person involved. You can say a prayer for someone but if they don't believe in that prayer then what's the point? A church is the home of God but how do you know god is really there? It's it just a build of stone that has been labeled as holy? Of course there is light to the dark but again it's all labelling. The ouiji board is a good example of this, it has been labelled good and bad at different times in history, flipping before the two even in recent years.

It's not insane to question the belief, it what all paranormal researchers do but it is insane to go in guns a blazing trying to prove the big stuff without any sort of protection on the matter. Yes you could use a ouiji board every day for a year and have nothing happen but the one time something does happen or goes wrong you should have something on stand by to correct things. things that can move objects can attack us too.

Whine Flu
Thank you for admitting it all comes down to belief.
If I walk off a cliff and believe with my heart there is a bridge.
I and everyone else that 'believed' will fall and most likely die.

just about everything comes down to believing in it. you can make yourself sick, have foods taste different, even show all the signs of being pregnant all by just believing that its true.

Just an observation, but belief seems to play a prominent role in most forms of occult or paranormal practice. If you don't believe anything will happen then you won't allow it to happen.

I'm not suggesting that Ouija boards can open up the gates of hell, but I'm suggesting that if one were to try they would have to believe such a thing was possible.

But then you run into the problem of "Is it a legitimate phenomenon or am I projecting myself onto it or reading too much into it?"

My experience is that if you want a psychic ability to work, you have to first believe you can do it. I don't know if the same thing applies to Ouija boards, but I suspect it does. I think deep down you have to have some belief that the board can contact the other side.

However, without someone to operate it, it's just a piece of cardboard with a plastic placard.

As an aside, I think I have the same glow in the dark Ouija board that you're talking about. Mine's made by Parker Brothers. I may have used it three times over all the years I've had it, and I got it as a gift maybe eight or nine years ago. Spirit communication has never been a huge area of interest for me, but what person into the occult hasn't at least once tried a spirit board? Anyway, I only ever had something interesting happen once and that was when using it with a group of people. I tend to go with the idea that it's subconscious motor movements that cause the placard to move, but whether a spirit is directing those movements no one can really say.

I own a 40+ year old Ouija Board. We keep it put away mostly.

I am thinking that if *I* were a spirit, the Ouija Board would be a really efficient way of communicating. If someone happened to be using it, and I happened to be lurking about watching them... I am not real sure how the afterlife works, yanno. wink

Even if I were disabled and lacking communication skills, as from a stroke, but retained some motor skills, that Ouija Board would be the perfect way to communicate. *brrr knock wood*

That said, I don't feel very comfortable with annoying my dead father or grandparents with the Ouija Board. But if I really REALLY needed to talk to the dead, it seems as good a method as any.

I don't like Ouija Boards. They kinda like get on my nerves with the whole spirit things. They bring in bad omens and negativity. My grandmother used one and the freaking messed with her house. Brung in some black guy ghost that wouldn't leave until we called a priest to bless the house.
