In what can only be called a 'job gone wrong', Azriel was captured by his previous employer, the CRONUS Corporation, and one Doctor Carl Hakan. While there, he 'befriended' some of the other prisoners, and, with the aid of one in particular, gained some information about the history of the project that the captives were being submitted to. However, the realization came too late, as the process had already begun to change his physical features.

Having been forced into temporary solitary confinement due to his previous actions/escape attempts, Azriel bided his time, waiting for his chance to leave the island forever. However, at the same time, he didn't want to escape -he wasn't even sure if the process was reversible. So, with his chance at freedom stolen, he found himself stuck in limbo, with nowhere to go and no one to turn to.

Except his fellow conspirators, of course. The problem was, he hadn't heard from one of them in a long, long time, and rumor had it that he was refusing to come out. It started right around the time that the first changes had occurred....

Katsuo's life was that of every normal teenager; video games, annoying parents, unrequited(?) crushes... Oh, yeah, and a basically unlimited influx of cash.

Going to one of the most prestigious schools in Japan, Katsuo actually managed to fly under the radar while on campus. He gave off the air of a slacker, for the most part, but his surprisingly extroverted personality made him a good number of friends.

It took him most of his first year of high school to admit to himself that he had a crush on Mitsuko, a girl in a class higher than his own, and the rest of the year to actually trying to muster up the courage to tell her. In the end, it failed, and while he does still have the crush, she remains oblivious to his feelings.
