my first Akantor. i spent all day trying to kill it with my brother, yet we keep losing. i'm only using the pop corn GL and he is using the gaoren coin GS. any tips on how to kill this beast.
and if u didn't know, Akantor is pretty much just a big tigrex. if u dont believe me, battle it, look at the way it moves, and how it looks.

Well I having gotten both Akantor and Ukanlos(Ice Ankator) armor sets can offer my help.
One take off his tail!!! Trust me you will be glad you did
Second he's large enough for you to hit in various places. Try hitting him on his back leg and tail area if you're unsure of you defense. Other than that attack him under his chin.
As for preparation bring flash bombs. Me and my friends each would bring enough to make 15+ each so he was basically blind for about 10 minutes straight while two people destroyed him. But they don't last very long so one person has to flash and one has to attack.
The last thing is if you don't have auto-tracker ability, either get it or learn his patterns when he goes underground. Thats the easiest way to combat his underground attacks.
I think thats good enough for you to start off with

i've tried attacking his back legs but everytime he charges i get hit with his tail

Stay to his right, he swings his tail to the left.
You might want to bring Farcasters (one each) so you can regroup half-way through. You might also prefer to use Power Drinks instead of increasing your Stamina in traditional ways (so you can guard, run, and guard without any trouble).
Try to bring armor that will help you exploit the situation. Guard Inc and Gunnery are good for you, while Fast Charge and Attack Up are good for your brother.
It might be a good idea for you to distract Akantor with Flash Bombs while your brother chops off his tail.

if ur new to fighting him, i recommend just staying under his chest with a greatsword: upswing, sideswing, upswing, sideswing, etc. block when he roars or charges at you.
my fav way to fight him is to hammer his face the whole time cuz u can KO him a lot in one fight.
i dont recommend flash bombs, cuz if u rely on them, u wont ever get good; however, they can help to stop his roaring and charging.

thank u all, me and my bro murdered it! twice, both times we broke all toes both tusks and his chopped his tail, im not sure if we were using the best weapons for that situation though.

Lol, nice. Me and my friend both greatsworded the akantor our first time. Now ive killed it atleast once with every wep. (cept lances) Just wait until the Ucamulbas.

Emerium thank u all, me and my bro murdered it! twice, both times we broke all toes both tusks and his chopped his tail, im not sure if we were using the best weapons for that situation though. me=azure ogre sword bro=shining wyvern blade You're lucky you had someone to help you, I'm doing this quest solo cry I can dodge most of it's attacks but it's so damn big and the battlefield is a very small place, easy to get cornered if you're not careful. I'm a good Gunner so i'm going to blast it to hell with my Maelstrom+

Akito Uchiha Congratulations Emerium, and good luck Grand Kaizer! Thanks but i couldn't do it with a Bowgun but i killed with the Narga DS Hidden sabers. As long as you stay near it's Left Back leg you can hack away without getting hit
