A chance meeting between two trainers out on adventure in the wilderness of the Pilkiras Plain ignites a battle that is all fun and games, and maybe some practice too.

A gentle breeze stirred the tall grasses of the plain as rather large arcanine made his way through them with a girl on his back. Raina had decided it was time to go out in search of new pokemon once again and, with Branimir being her favorite, and most loyal, pokemon she had brought him along rather than leaving him with her friend Jenette and his mate Rufio. At first he had been quite upset about the separation but after he had caught a tree... or five on fire and got the anxiety out of his system he'd settled right down.
Raina's stomach began to rumble and so she stopped Branimir and pulled out some food for the both of them. Half-way through lunch Branimir's ears pricked and he sniffed the air before wagging his tail excitedly. "What is it boy?" Raina asked as she stood up and looked in the same direction to see another trainer approaching them. Raina grinned, it had been a long time since she'd had a nice battle. When the other trainer was within hearing distance she called out "Hi there! Wanna battle?!" not the most polite way to do it, but effective nonetheless.

Cab snapped the water-proof case of her journal shut, satisfied with the sketch of Penners she'd just finished. "Ready to move on?" She reached an arm out for Penners who quickly scramble up to rest on her shoulder, nesting into some of her curly, red hair. The two had spent a wonderful morning together just exploring the plains. Cab had no intention of rushing her bonding with Penners nor of throwing her into another battle.
She got up, whiped some grass off her pants, and scanned the horizon. It wasn't uncommon to see others out and about, so when she heard a voice call to her and spotted the trainer and her pokémon, she wasn't surprised. "Hi!" She reached up to stroke Penners' fur. "How 'bout it, Pen-Pen, care for another battle?" She waited a bit, ready to decline if Penners showed even the slightest hesitation, but to her surprise the small Rattata jumped to the ground and gazed up expectantly.
"Well, yes," she told the other trainer. "We'd love a battle."

Raina grinned as the other trainer accepted her challenge. "Awesome! I'm Raina and this big guy is Branimir, it's nice to meet you." she said motioning to her arcanine and then reaching out to shake hands with the other trainer. After the formalities were taken care of Raina walked off to make room for the battle, Branimir by her side. Then she turned and looked at her pokemon "Go give it your best shot buddy." she crooned as she patted his neck then sent him off to their makeshift battlefield.
As soon as Branimir was in place Raina's mind began calculating her best course of action and within a few moments she had decided. "Branimir, use flamethrower!" she called out to him and within an instant the huge canine had crouched down and taken aim straight for the little mouse pokemon on the other side of the field, unleashing a devastating stream of flame from his mouth.

"Nice to meet you as well, Raina. I'm Cabriana. This is Penners." Penners fluffed a bit and then shook her fur flat. She was getting anxious for things to start already!
Cab backed up some to give the pair more room before giving Penners her first order. "Bite, Penners!" She sorely wished Penners had been able to learn some water or ground TMs right about now, but at least being a Normal type meant there were relatively few attacks she was super vulnerable to.
Penners tried to duck and roll away from the flames, but Branimir was just too quick. Flames singed her fur, giving her a temporary two-tone look. She streaked forward and opened her mouth wide, figuring at the very least she could probably fit a paw in her mouth to bite on.

As the flames made contact with the poor mouse pokemon Branimir closed his mouth and danced back a few steps, ears pricked for the next command from his trainer. While he was waiting he felt something sharp clamp onto his left front paw and he looked down to see the little mouse biting him. Lifting his paw he shook it back and forth trying to get the little pokemon to let go. Seeing this Raina shook her head, it was so funny to see such a small pokemon clinging to her giant dog. Finally the little pokemon was flung off of his paw and Branimir watched it closely so it couldn't clamp onto him again.
"Use extremespeed Branimir!" Raina called to her pokemon and watched as one instant he was standing in front of her, then he seemed to dissapear for a few moments before he was ramming into the little mouse pokemon and finally he was stopped. He gets faster all the time... Raina thought to herself as she watched to see how the other pokemon would retaliate.

So fast! Cab hoped luck would be on their side for this next move. She'd seen Penners use it once successfully, but then her opponent fail twice in a row. It didn't seem to be a very stable move, but it might help take care of that Arcanine's speed. "Thunderbolt, Penners! Slow 'im down!"
Penners righted herself after tumbling a few feet, her head spinning from the attack. She agreed wholeheartedly with Cab's command and called down a bolt of lightning. But it was a bolt meant to hit with little force, rather it was intended to sink into the fur of her opponent and slow him into paralysis.

Raina watched the retaliation with little hope, she knew just what would happen, it was her luck after all, stupid status effects. Raina sighed then called out to her pokemon "It's alright Branimir, just sit tight for a little while." the only response that her now paralyzed arcanine could manage was a slight twitch of his ears and tail.
Branimir inside was fuming, paralyzed by a little mouse. Pshh, good thing Rufio wasn't around to see this, it was humiliating. He heard Raina and tried his best to show he heard her then just stopped doing anything all together, the only thing he was concentrating on was the feeling in his limbs that would tell him when he was able to attack again, then that little mouse would pay for his humiliation.

Cab felt a rush of relief, if that had missed it would have been a move wasted. This Arcanine looked too powerful for her and Penners to go about wasting moves. "Alright, while he's down, just keep Biting." She didn't want to run out of options just yet and so kept two moves open.
Penners congratulated her aim with a self satisfied chuckle, which was nowhere near as disurbing as her cackling laugh from the last battle. She didn't rush as she came toward the Arcanine this time, and then began Biting.

Raina had resigned herself to just watching the onslaught of attacks, as Branimir had, she was used to seeing her pokemon get battered while there was nothing they could do to retaliate. It angered her to no end but all is fair in battling.
Branimir's eyes shifted to look down at that little mouse who was now gnawing on his paw. A low grumble came from him but he was still unable to move. Stupid mouse... if he could just lift his paw he would squash it. He waited anxiously for his muscles to become flexible again... not too much longer now.

When Cab didn't say anything, then she knew she'd meant the biting thing. She just kept at it, keeping her eyes warily on the now growling Arcanine. What am I doing so close to something this BIG!? But she stayed the course. Cab had asked her to, rather than demand it, and so she would do it.

Branimir felt the paralysis wearing off and slowly worked his mouth into a sort of wicked canine grin, his eyes still trained on the mouse as he growled. Soon little mouse... very soon I shall get you. he thought to himself and he wondered why he didn't feel any pain from her bites... was she letting up??

Penners spat out a mouthful of hair, it had gotten between her teeth and dulled her bite. Mental note, dogs shed. She clamped down again with renewed vigor, wondering if Cab had fallen asleep or something.
It had been a while now and Cab wondered if the paralysis would begin to wear off. "You may want to back up some..." she called out to Penners.

Branimir felt his muscles tingling and knew it was only a matter of moments until he was free. He made no change in his behavior though, not wanting to tip off his opponent.
Raina knew that Branimir would be free in a few seconds and knew exactly what attack she would have him use. "Hang in there just a little bit longer Branimir!" she called out to him and waited for the paralysis to wear off.
