The Fire Field:
A series of thick rock pillars, all different sizes of height, reach towards the stadium ceiling from a pool of hot lava. While there is a fire-proof net far below to catch any pokemon that falls off the platforms, the rock pillars themselves are very hot to touch. They can cause burns if your pokemon stand still for a set period of time. The air around the field is very heavy from the extreme heat.
This field gives a 25 HP attack boost to FIRE type attacks. This field also reduces damage from WATER and ICE type attacks by 25 HP

User ImageOh no, not the suffocating heat again. Because the hot air and bright lava was hurting her eyes, Alessa had to look for her sunglasses in her bag. “Alright, that’s much better now.”
Actually, no, she wasn’t quite alright yet. Maybe she should quit sweatshirts. Oh, and with that atmosphere, she couldn’t take proper photographs either. No souvenir this time.

Beth left her pokéball for her first normal battle. She quickly noticed the environment. She didn’t really mind it, though she would have preferred more shadows. Her wings vastly spread, she simply let the heavy air raise her higher. “That’s the right height”, she cawed, as she was now able to see almost the whole field at once. The Murkrow's bright green eyes stared at the ground, not having any idea where her opponent should appear.User Image

Cab thanked the man who pointed out which arena was currently open and waiting for a second challenger and then weaved her way between the other people gathered around. She could see some with pokémon and some with cameras and some with arm loads of souvenirs. It must be quite the tourist spot, or maybe that's just what the sellers hoped for. She had no desire for souvenirs and continued on her way.

Penners sat on one shoulder, keeping a fierce lookout to ensure her Cab's safety. She was still extremely happy to be with Cab and no longer in an old, dusty ball awaiting her next battle.

"Here we are," Cab said, pushing the door open. She was hit suddenly by oppressive heat and brought her arm up to shield her eyes from the steam, smoke, and light. The door shut behind her and she wondered if this hell hole could possibly be the right place. She decided she liked the water field much better. Then she spotted a dark shape riding the hot air high above and then the trainer at the other end. She waved and picked Penners off her shoulder to place her on the ground.

Penners bolted for the door, her eyes wide with terror despite the hot pain. She ignored Cab's voice calling after her. How could she!? She knew the door wouldn't open for her and once she was there began to run the length of the wall trying to find an escape.

Cab took a quick look up at the bird pokémon and saw it wasn't diving just yet, maybe she'd have time to talk to Penners. She got to the door and looked around, noticing Penners in the far corner and trying to climb up the wall. "Penners!" She shouldn't have shouted, she saw Penners scramble, trying harder to climb up and away.

She walked calmly and could feel her eyes watering, not just from the heat. How could she have been so stupid? Clearly Penners had some issues with battling, she'd suspected before that the little Rattata had been abused but now she saw the truth of it. She hadn't even told Penners what she was planning today. She should have told her, should have gotten her permission. Now, she feared, Penners might never trust her.

"Penners? I... I'm really sorry. I will not make you fight if you do not want to."

Penners had reached as high as she could go, and it was only about chest high to Cab. She looked back, still afraid. It's a trick! But she knew she couldn't get any higher anyway. The wall simply was too slick this high up.

But... was Cab crying? Penners shook tears from her own eyes, they were just from the heat. It's just the heat... she doesn't care! Having nowhere to go, she clung desperately to the wall.

Alessa only started noticing just now the ruckus on the other side. “Do you have a problem here, miss?” she asked, not being able to see clearly the small Rattata. She scratched her head, feeling slightly embarrassed. “If your Pokémon doesn’t want to fight, I’m okay with that, really”, she apologized, “but since we’re here... perhaps I can just try one light move. If it really doesn’t want to keep fighting, we’ll stop, alright?”
She had really wanted to test Beth’s ability before teaching her tricks. Just her luck. She had a hard time hiding her disappointment, even with those glasses.

The bird listened to her trainer thoroughly. Oh, so the poor little rodent below was her opponent, right? What kind of p***y is scared even before a battle? Pfeh. Beth didn’t want to go lightly, she wanted a real fight. She interpreted “one light move” as a Dark Pulse. Black waves, emitted from her white feathers, quickly reached the ground and the wall, displacing the dust and fumes on their way.

"Huh?" Cab turned and just barely got out of the way of the dark pulses. She had no idea what they would have done to her, but she felt a twinge of regret after doing so.

Penners shuddered. Each wave hit and washed through her, making her tighten her grip. She wasn't going to cry out. She wasn't!

It took a while, but Cab finally registered what the other voice said. "I'm so sorry!" she shouted. "I didn't know she wouldn't fight..." She felt like an idiot. "Maybe another- AH!"

Thunderbolt lit the sky. Penners wasn't going to sit and take abuse easily. Losing meant nothing to her, so she didn't care if her opponent was one or many. Simply fighting back was all that mattered.

Her bolt was carefully controlled, more like a web of electricity. It was meant to settle on her opponent and cripple them. Meant to paralyze them.

Alessa herself had not expected Beth’s attack so soon. Did she almost hit that trainer as well? Was she really listening? “Oh dear, I’m so, so sorry” she apologized further, bowing, looking less like a trainer and more like a pathetic excuse of one. “She wasn’t supposed to do that! I’m sorry!”

Bah. This photographer was exactly as stupid as she had predicted. What kind of trainer apologizes that much for something their Pokémon succeeds? So easy. She aimed at the Rattata and made herself ready to launch another attack from her safe spot…
… suddenly, a flash blinded her, and she felt a big shock. Immediately, the crow fell down silently and hit the warm ground seconds later. Damn, that hurt. A white wing twitched, but being paralyzed, she couldn’t do anything more but stare.

“Oh!”
The woman stopped in her track. That fall looked painful. But at least, that Rattata was attacking. The battle could be going on normally. “Oh. Huh. Well, I’m glad your Rattata has made up her mind”, she replied with a half-sincere laugh. All was normal. But still, ouch.

Cab was shaking from to much stimulus around her. From the near miss to Penner's sudden attack. She didn't have any control but worried about how to get it back. What if Penners turned on her? Or what if she simply gave up when Cab tried to command her?

"I guess she has," Cab said, but didn't shout it across. "Uh..." she raised her voice to carry. "Yes, all's well. Thanks!" She didn't want to admit what was going on. She'd received Penners under such strange circumstances. What if she was taken from her?

Penners' laughter was a terrible thing to the ears. Manic. Varying in pitch as she approached her prone victim. This wasn't the arena anymore, there was no Cab. There was only the fight. There was only the punishment that came from loosing, the fighting anew that came from victory. No rest. Only fight.

Pressing her advantage, Penners once more called down Thunderbolt, this time a thick vine of electricity which crackled and popped. The heat fed it's brightness, but Penners didn't even blink.

Alessa also got Beth during that camp, and she wasn’t quite sure where she exactly came from either. All she knew is that Beth has not showed any affection to her since that day. She wasn’t preoccupied with that however; after all, she may have had something to do with the Team Rocket, and Dark types aren’t known for their gentleness. Must be that, right.
Nonetheless, Alessa really didn’t suspect at all Penners was more similar to her Murkrow than it would appear at first glance…
Unable to do much for her Pokémon, she simply stood there, watching, and using notes as a makeshift fan.

This was NOT the Rattata she thought she was fighting. Right before being electrocuted again, Beth hissed nastily at the rodent. She could not even launch a psychic attack on her, how sad is that? The ground that started burning her back didn’t make the fight any more comfortable to her. If her face wasn’t also paralyzed from the previous thunderbolt, she would have responded to Penners with her own evil laugh and psychotic glare.
“Hissssss…”

Cab felt it best to be supportive, even if Penners laugh gave her chills. "You're doing great, hon. Quick Attack, while you've still got time!" She wondered how much longer the Murkrow would be paralyzed.

Oh, there'd be none of that. Penners glanced over one shoulder and hissed at Cab. Her opponent's anger meant nothing, but that woman would let Penners Do Her Job!

It was too hot in here. Closing her eyes and letting her battle rage fill her, Penners pulled deep inside for that cold, pitiless feeling within. How nice of Cab to give me TMs... Who? As a rental, no one had bothered with TMs. Cab had gotten ever one she could and tried them on Penners until she had a full arsenal.

"Penners? What..."

No! I've always known this... I can do this... Snow drifted, slow and gentile at first but quickly picking up speed. Wind lashed the flakes around and around, focusing their chill on the still stunned Murkrow.

The cold brought slight relief, it was a good choice on Penner's part but Cab would have much rathered she'd listened to the command.

Beth hated snow almost as much as she disliked electricity. While the snowflakes were melting quickly in that field, they were cold enough to send chills down her spine.
She started rolling around with much effort, still partially paralyzed. Good, at least her back won’t smell of fried chicken. All her strength left went to her legs, so she could at least attempt to stand back up.

Alessa leant forward to check her crow. “Do you think you can counterattack yet?” she asked, hopeful. The frost felt sooooo much better, that was a welcome move.
Penners' laugh was dismissed as a normal noise. Yeah. Sounds creepy, but it must be normal for Rattatas to do that when they're angered.

The bird couldn’t turn her head, or even flap her wings or do any other move for that matter. The rolling took all her willpower and couldn’t even stand properly. She gave her trainer a mean glare from behind and replied with a broken voice: “Counterattack? Are you crazy? You seen me?”
Her eyes shifted to Penners. “In a couple seconds, I will be able to move, and you shall regret that bitterly, piece of trash. I eat your siblings for breakfast every day.

Penners cackled again. "You think there are any left? I ensured my own survival with their deaths." A falsehood, but one Penners meant simply for an effect. Strike fear, exploit it, gain victory!

Cab had about all she could take of that dark laughter. It was nothing like the Penners she knew, nothing like the docile Rattata she'd welcomed into her heart and home. "Penners... please..."

NO! In Frustration Penners lashed out without thinking, it wasn't part of the strategy. Use your opponents weaknesses, but Frustration was merely Normal type. There was no advantage to it.

She watched Penners attack like a thing gone mad. "This isn't you! You're kind, thoughtful, you helped save me from the Rockets!" She wanted Penners back so bad, wanted to hold and comfort her. The small Rattata was too far afield though, and Cab would not break the rules by running out there.

Beth received the hit without blinking. When the rodent came into range instead, she rose on her feet and exhaled a Heat Wave that only got more unbearable with the ambient air. As soon as she was done, the crow left the ground, cackling. “Oh, I see! You’re so tough and edgy. Tell me, what have they done to deserve that? Did they pee in your cereals?”
With another flap and the help of the hot air, she went right above her target. “How about you just give up, lie on your side, and just burn once and for all?”

Pokémon fights were not supposed to be so confusing. It was no longer the battle of the trainers; it was a fight between those two fierce creatures alone. And despite this, Alessa didn’t dare calling Beth back in her ball. She feared that this would earn her a grudge, and the critter could very well peck her face in anger.
“She saved you? Gosh, I can see how, she’s fiercer than she looks” replied Alessa, not picking all the hints. “I mean that as a compliment…” she added, just in case.
If only she could figure out what Penners and Beth were saying, though.
