WhenI admit my hidden adoration of these dolls, the response is always "they are creepy!"

neutral

As a girl I was terrified of them, but now I want to buy one. @_@

What I like about them is that you paint and create their existence; they are so lifelike! heart

I like to think of them as homunculi, which in Latin means "little human." In terms of alchemy they are an "illegal" means of creating or bringing back life. Bodies without souls.

So when I look at these dolls, I think of them as little humans. =] They are pieces of beauty! gonk heart Their expressions are lovely.

For example, I love this picture of a doll from flickr (not my doll):
Supia Roda

What do like about ABJD??? Do you have a favorite picture? Tell me! heart

I like them because they are like a little person, like you said, to dress up and befriend.

Are you a full metal alchemist fan by any chance? ^^

But on topic: Why do I love these dolls... I'm not really sure. I stopped playing with dolls (barbies and such) YEARS ago and last year I discovered the dolls though an anime convention I attended.
And I'm not sure what drew me to them, I don't see them as ordinairy dolls. They are bigger, and designed and sculpted to be like real people. You can change them into whatever you want.
And they have that weird factor. I cosplay so I'm all for freaking out 'normal' people XD

Kendra << I thought the same thing XD About FMA xD
OMG! I am so going to call them my little humonculi now XD
Omg... xD

I really dont know why I like them... they are just... so beautiful and we can do so many things with them =O

I never really was one to play with dolls... the only thing I liked with my barbies when I was young was to 1: dress them, 2: take their head off and experiment...

BJDs are great since I can do both =D Clothing them being way cooler then just taking their head off talk2hand

BJDs are part of something I do not really like and find creepy, but they are way more something I adore....

Wanna draw me ? Draw one of my OCs instead =D
Any on of them will be fine by me =D

Lol little homunculi. I like thinking of them like that! Let's see though...reasons why I like them so much:

I love ABJDs because you can express yourself so way through them. My kids all represent characters whose stories I'm working on yet they definitely have a little bit of me show through as well. I love having them around as inspiration and I also really enjoy photographing them. They're all gorgeous models and so much easier to work with than a real person lol!

There really is a lot to love about them though n.n They're all so unique, even if they are the same mold!

Plus they can wear all the clothes I can't wear or can't afford ''XD

FMA ftw ^^ anyone else think the new series is AWESOME!

*fangirl trying to make thread OT lol, bad me*

Lol completely forgot to say i love photographing them too XD

And agree with you on the clothes Kitsuna, I'm so jealous of my dolls clothes, and even her shoes lol.

I used to watch FMA, but the way they portray homunculi is grotesque. gonk I read a manga called "Hibiki's Magic" and their homunculi are cute and adorable, so I'd rather think of them that way. xd

@Kitsuna Ri: I love that about them too, they are amazing models! And every one is unique, as are real people. 4laugh As for the clothes, I crochet, so I hope to make cute little hats and stuff like that. Maybe a matching one for myself :'D.

@Chibi_Fluffy: Haha yeah my grandparents would try to buy me baby dolls and barbies....I TRIED to like them, but I liked stuffed animals much better. heart Otherwise they were shoved in my closet, or surreptitiously given away to neighborhood girls. xd

@Kendra_regenlief: Yeah, I am way past the "normal" category. sweatdrop lol I do notice that they are extremely tall! I had no idea until I saw some full-bodied photos. 3nodding

@venuslovechain95: I agree, and you can buy or make a wardrobe =DD!

Lol what I used to do when looking at the dolls online is have a measuring tape at the ready. So I can get a better idea of how big the are.

This is me standing next to my 60cm Domuya Sophie (i'm around 5ft 12 so this may not help you that much if ur not as tall as me sweatdrop )

that's a cute picture 3nodding i remember seeing a pic of a woman who was about five feet tall standing next to her Soom Sabik and i swear he was practically up to her hip.

what i love about BJDs is being able to make my characters into solid, 'real' things...i've lived with some of my characters for over a decade now, and i feel like they're part of me, so to be able to have them for real is great. it just means i've got a crapload of modifying to do crying

That is a really cute photo. heart You are only about 2 inches taller than me! My friends (around 4'8"-5'5") nicknamed me the "Giantess." sweatdrop xd That's okay though, there is a good bias for tall people. >=D And I don't get stepped on in hallways! =DD

@ Mister D Wolf: I never thought of doing that, it is really awesome! Physical representations of your imagination. whee Are you writing or roleplaying? 3nodding

writing biggrin i've written hundreds of stories but i rarely post them online, they're too complex now for anyone to work them out.
i'm not the only one who does this, and i love looking at original character dolls. i feel it lets me see a small part of the owner's personality 3nodding

I have yo be totally honest and say that I like them mostly because I can clothe them. I love sewing and making costumes , this is like someone I can dress up in whatever I want . Especially all the things I dont look good in . *hee hee*
Homunculi , thats just too cute. I calling them resin golems for a while.

I love the dolls for the same reason all you guys do.
They seem like little people, a little friend to have fun with and talk too.
And they're like 3-D paper dolls. I can't wait for my doll (my first!) to arrive so I can dress her up how I like. And she'll look good in lots of things that I wouldn't!

(one thing i dont like about them is price though....ouch!)
