Name: Charlemagne Julian Boyle
Nicknames: Char, Charlie
Age: 17
Birthday: May 4 (Remembrance Day, ah me)
Sign: Taurus
Blood Type: Runny, like an egg yolk. Type A.
Fav. Food: Bottled Water. It will last forever and ever.
Hated Food: Ground Beef. Few foods have a shorter shelf life. Char disapproves.
School: Meadowview, school for non-maladjusted boys. biggrin
Hobbies:
- Crossword puzzles: A quality hobby for grumpy old men -- thus also a quality hobby for Charlie Boyle. Char was born with the spirit of a sixty-year-old man. He is not ashamed.
- Track and Field: Running, jumping, throwing random heavy objects -- track and field events are old, old like the Olympic Games, and this means they have stood the test of time. These are proper, manly pursuits. Char thinks the high jump, the long jump, the 100-meter dash, and the shot put are the measures of a man.
- The Chronicles of Charnia: If Charlie was not convinced he was allergic to technology, he would be the kind of person who updated his twitter 5,000 times a day. "I'm running low on toothpaste today but I probably have enough for another week. 8 seconds ago" "I love towels that are freshly cleaned. 4 seconds ago" "Today I'm wearing a blue shirt with an embroidered alligator on it. just now" He maintains a journal of his life. Not just at night before bed. All the time. All. The time. He writes down things no one cares about. His life story is contained in more volumes than the Encyclopedia Brittanica. He goes through a lot of journals. Someday historians will read through the rigorous documentation of Char's existence and conclude that people from this era were profoundly boring.
Gemstone: May = Emerald. Taurus = Golden Topaz.
Virtues:
So Loyal that Lassie is Jealous: Char is not a wavering sort of person -- it's not really how he rolls. Once he commits to a person or a cause, he's committed and will never turn from it if it kills him. He will follow a comrade into a pit of snakes and fire, even if he thinks this is the worst idea, so long as their intentions are good.
Staid (Like a Grizzled Old War Horse): He's also a voice of calm and deliberacy, more prone to fits of brooding and condescending complaints than to rash, irrational behavior. His head is steady in a crisis or not in a crisis -- he is like a turtle who, when he wins the race, wins it through being slow and steady. He can pass for decent leadership material on his own as a result, but ultimately those relying on him for this may find at times that his loyalty and stubbornness verge on the pathological, and thus can render him a liability in certain scenarios.
An Elephant Never Forgets: And comparing Charlie to an elephant, let's be honest, isn't entirely unfair. Char is destined to be a History major someday, because he has an incredible memory for even the most trivial details, and a keen interest in the history of the world and anthropology. He is, in this way, an excellent resource, as he is a wealth of knowledge and experience (though the experience is not necessarily his own). He isn't necessarily a well-rounded student -- Chemistry and most of the other sciences particularly elude his grasp -- but he never struggles in a history class and his grammar and mechanics are unimpeachable.
Flaws:
Waist Deep in the Big Muddy: This one is "stubborn," so I'm not counting it against my four maximum. Char is not just stubborn, but is in fact terminally, very problematically stubborn: once he settles upon a course of action he will often pursue it to any end. Wise teammates are advised to forcibly knock him unconscious and carry him away rather than attempt to reason with him.
No One Died and Made You Serenity: Charlie is capable of being a good team player because he is unhurried, considered, and a good planner -- but he is exceptionally poor at adapting to changed circumstances, and becomes bristlingly insubordinate faced with many 'changed circumstances.' Among these, he has difficulty adjusting the way in which he interacts with turncoat allies, and is absolutely adamant against nominating any interim "leader" for the senshi until the Queen's (in his opinion) inevitable return. He will sooner walk away from a senshi team than openly acknowldge new leadership.
Oscar the Grouch: Charlie is a grumpy old man. He responds to unpleasant situations by grousing about them.
Die-Hard Luddite: His alarm clock is a brass analog clock with two bells on the top. He believes technology is making us stupid and refuses to learn to use a great deal of it -- or at least stays about a decade behind the times. He does not own a cell phone.
Compulsive Hoarder: It's not that he's collecting all the Land Before Time Pizza Hut Kid's Meal Handpuppets, it's just that he can't seem to throw them away. Char can't bear to throw anything out other than what is unequivocally trash.
