Marching Band no Jutsu

It's about the time for band camp. I've just had my first day. Two of our worthless baritones quit, so at the beginning of the day, we had 1 on baritone part, 2 on trombone 2, and 2 on trombone 1 (me included).
So, Our instructor (who got out of high school two years ago, and my band driector has told me I'm better than him at trombone.) is trying to move me down from trombone 1 to trombone 2 because having two trombones on trombone 1 "upsets the pyramid of sound."
I, personally, think he's full of s**t. He's just trying to be superior because he's in college and was in a drum corps for one day.
So, he's trying to persuade my SL (who isn't an incredibly confident player, and so she wants someone else to play her part with her) and both of my BD's to change my part.
Not to be concieted, but I'm way to good for trombone 2. The highest note there is a Bb, and in trombone 1 I have to play F and above, which is a challenge, but after a while, very easy (I've just gotten to the point where I can play G to super Bb easily. I'm a freshman.)
So, does anyone else have problems like this?

We have a really small band too, so 1st and 2nd parts get shufled around a lot.

Honestly, you shouldn't be offended if the BD puts you on 2nd part. It's what's best for the band and they know what they're doing. It's nothing against you, they just don't have enough people in the section for you to play 1st AND keep the band sounding good.
It's ultimately the BD's decision, but your instructor probably has a good point. More people need to be on lower parts to get a good sound.

I'm glad you're a good player, but don't think that 2nd part is beneath you. Good players should be able to play on all parts. That's just part of being a team player.

I get what you're saying. But another thing is, I already have my music memorized. (I practice a lot, and got my music two months ago.)
And, if I'm not on 1st, I don't even have the chance of getting the trombone solo (you can't try out if you're not on a lead part, because then it's not in your music).
And, I've already decided that if Mr. Brown (the BD) says I should play 2nd, I'll play it. But if he doesn't, and only our instructor says so, I won't.

Our band is roughly 350 people, so we don't have problems with being shuffled around.

It's usually juniors and seniors playing first part, sophomores and freshmen playing second. But I march with an alto, so it's pretty much just one part.

My personal band camp problem is the whole saxophone superiority-complex.
We had this total a** in our band a few years ago (he's in the same grade as me, so he would have been a senior this year). He thought he was Anakin Skywalker, no joke; when he started watching House, he magically developed back problems.
Anyway. He was a good player; everyone will admit that. He was just one of those "I'm a good player and I know it, and I know you know it, but I'm going to rub it in your face how much better than you I am just because I'm that much more awesome than you" kind of sax players.

Thankfully, he dropped out, finished three years of high school in one semester of being homeschooled, and got enrolled in a local community college, and he and his girlfriend are living with his parents at their photography studio.
End of our problems, right?

No. My sophomore year, we get a clone of him. Only difference between them is that a** 2.0 is a freshman.

So this year at band camp, the other seniors and I are going to have to duke it out with that prat for leadership. He honestly thought he was going to be a drum major. We never have junior drum majors. Ever.

So those are my band camp problems.

Your instructor doesn't know beans, dude.

Having everyone on 2 and one person on 1 will 'upset the balance', not having equal numbers on parts!

My BD tries to put equal numbers to the best he can, and it depends on how strong people play, too.

Talk to your director about this, maybe he can convince your instructor to stfu.

Did you try just saying something along the lines of "I would really like to play the first trombone part"? You could add things like "I feel like I can handle the part " and that you are prepared to handle the responsibilities that come with it. Believe it or not, I had a friend move up from a third trumpet part to a first because they talked to the brass instructor and tried out for the part. If you know you can keep the part, then you can.
