'All that nobility and self-sacrifice, and for what, Little Brother?' Aveshar's mocking grin haunted him. 'In the end, what do you have? Nothing. It's starting to look pretty pointless, isn't it?' 'Isn't it?'
"I guess... You were right... It's all starting to look pretty pointless..." Kelakohr murmured to himself with a frown as he paused atop a grassy knoll. Just a bit higher than the surrounding plain, it afforded him a decent view in all directions, as far as one's eye could see. With a sigh the solar male flicked his tail and then sat, not really knowing where to continue from here. His children were grown, his female long gone, his family scattering to the four winds in the wake of each rushing calamity. And to think, it all started with Aveshar. 'A pity it did not end with him.' The indigo male silently admitted to himself. 'If it had, all would still be right in your world. Sunisra would be home and safe... And the darkness inside you wouldn't be turning you into another monster like that thing that you call brother...' The Fayth's Mystery allowed himself a snort and a shake of his head. Oh, how the mighty hath fallen... 'Starting to realize what a waste being good is? Well done!' Kel shook his head as the dark voice inside him -an echo of his brother's foul soul- cackled. 'Pointless sacrifice.. And for what?' Nothing. 'For what?' It giggled. Nothing. Kel silently keened. 'What was it for, Kel?' "NOTHING!" He roared, collapsing to lay on his belly in the grass, misery flowing out of his every pore. "It was for nothing..."

"Upon my word..." The Dark Angel murmured. "You sound awfully fussy for a Son of Whistle... I wouldn't have thought her line to be the sort to complain so..." The black lioness simply seemed to appear just beyond the brooding male, her head tilted to one side as she considered him with silver eyes that gave none of her thoughts away. A small almost-smile danced at her mouth, hidden as she tilted her head the other way. "Why do you mourn, Kelakohr, son of Ballad and Whistle? Why do you rage?" She sat not far from him, her silver gaze burning as it swept over him from nose to tail. Her smile became a peculiar little frown, her brows lowering. "What has happened?"

"Greetings, Dark Angel and friend of my Mother." Kel rumbled, recognizing the figure of the Ghost-Walker from his mother's stories. Tierany, Whistle and Venati had all met in the realms of the dead, forging a friendship that followed them back to life once more... Even now with their families growing and wandering, they kept in touch... The Dark Angel was known well amongst the children of her friends. "My rage is nothing to taint such a meeting with, nor my unhappiness or sorrow... I greet thee with all the joy I can summon, friend of my mother, kin of my kin." He stood and bowed low with a sweep of his tail. "I trust all is well with you and yours?" He summoned a smile as he considered her, wishing all the sorrows within could be so easily hidden.

Silver-eyes narrowed as the lioness frowned, unable to put her paw on the source of the pain in Kel's heart, but sensing it nonetheless. The pretty words he gave her made her smile, but did not distract her in the least. If anything, it merely nagged at the Ghostwalker all the more to discover the source of his troubles. "I know enough of your mother and family that you need not lie to me." She murmured with a faint smile. "Your heart is troubled and torn, and there is no shame in this. But if you deny it, how can you hope to fix it?" She shook her head. "Be at peace, Kelakohr, I am not here to judge you.. And I thank you for enquiring on the health of those I hold dear. They are well, but you are not. So tell me, what ails thee?"

If he had the heart to be angry at her, he would have been... Still, looking at the GhostWalker, the one who was called the DarkAngel... His mother's true friend... A spirit that was just as battered as she was strong, like his mother, like Venati. They had known heartache, betrayel, pain beyond what he had experienced, and they had survived it. "I will not do the the disservice of lieing..." He murmured, moving a few paces closer and sitting. "If you will hear my tale, I shall tell it... It will perhaps, pain me less in doing so... And then, if I may, I would ask your council. That is, once you have heard it all." At her nod, he drew a deep breath, and began. ***

*** When all was said and done, the pair simply sat, considering each other and the stars. There was no need for words, for false-comfort, pretty-lies, and as of yet, Tierany could not find the words of truth she needed to reply to such a story. Kelakohr had been through much -like she had, and like his mother and Venati, even- but it was a different sort of test laid before his paws. A different set of obstacles he had to overcome, including the taint that his own brother had begun to lay upon him. A taint that -though he denied it- Kel carried some part of naturally... That was the only reason Aveshar had been able to make things worse, it had to have existed in some form, or the Dark Fayth would not have had a leg to stand on. And that -Tierany believed- was Kelakohr's greatest issue. "No one..." She murmured at long-last, still considering the stars. "No one mortal is ever, truly, 'good'... In fact, the only two I can say I have ever felt are truly -completely- good are your parents, and neither of them were born to this life..." A faint shrug rippled over her dark coat, a flick of her tail the final flourish to the gesture. "So you are what you are, a mortal, with thoughts and feelings you may not like, but can control. You can choose to be good, or to follow those dark impluses... And that is what makes you who and what you are. But no mortal is completely good."

"My sister." He pointed out softly. "Well, my youngest Sister." True enough he had seen PyreDancer scheme, and she and Songstress fight, and Reykuri had a mean streak if someone stepped on her tail. But Sunisra... Suni, Sun was good. Suni was perfect. She always had been. Even if she didn't want to admit it, and tried to fight it. There was no hatred in her heart, not even for Aveshar, who had tried to kill her since their first breaths... Suni was kind to everyone, anyone. "But as you said, our parents were not born to this life.... And so, by virtue of them, neither are we what you could call 'mortal'... We are other, we are Fayth, and I should not be tainted like my sibling." He ground his teeth at the thought of Aveshar. Damn him, their family would have been perfectly fine if he had never been born. "As for the rest, they are all 'mortal'... And things happen. Mistakes are made, lies are told, misunderstandings occur. And feelings and those who have them change, evolve, grow or dissappear..." He flicked his tail. "That is the way of this life, I have learned." Love, which should be eternal, was not always so. It was occassionally one-sided, occassionally an illusion, and sometimes, -even though it was the greatest thing you had ever known- it was the one thing you wish you'd never known. Because then, when it leaves, you would not feel so torn.

Tierany sighed to herself as she returned to Kelakohr's last known location... This same place they had talked... And he had confided many painful things in her that night... And they had sought to ease each other, for a time... Cubs... She smiled at the thought of her sons. We made two beautiful cubs, Kel... And I can't even find you to tell you that... She sighed, sitting and glancing around. They were visiting his family, Kelasia and Deimos watching over their younger half-siblings.... Their father missing, no doubt for more of Aveshar's games...
'My games are not the only games...' He had said to her when she confronted him. Remember that, Dark Angel...
What does that mean?
