"... And then bam! The lion struck the dragon so hard, that it collapsed dead before him. He saved the lioness, and the lioness grew to love him. They married, became king and queen, and lived happily ever after!"

...

Obviously, this was the story that Aina was currently telling. To herself. She was thinking up new ideas for a story that was in the works. The ending was fantastic; the ending was her favorite part of every story she created. The story she was working on now was quite a long one. It was a master piece, her baby! She wondered what'd she do without creating it in the first place.

The leopon rolled on the ground as she tried thinking of new ideas for the rest of the story. Changing a few parts here and there was defiantly a must. Names, places, more description was another muse have. She grinned and started plotting out different things in the story.

And then... "Oh! The lion's name can be Ovan!"

She jumped up. The name was perfect for the lion. She quite liked the name, too. It was unique... strong... and it fit the character just right.

Now, she thought, just a name for the female.

But there wasn't really any good names...

Lying on the ground under the shadows of a large, leafy plant, Xenia watched her sister with a puzzled grin on her face. Aina was always a little weird, but Xenia liked her anyway. She always made up such great stories. Usually she found her stories even more entertaining than the stories the nannies made up.

Nashia glanced back and fourth between Xenia and the other leopon as if she found the resemblance slightly maddening. She was currently crouched behind Xenia, for crouching came naturally to her. She did not like the idea of being introduced to Xenia’s family – damn carnivores – but the little leopon had been protecting her for a few days now, keeping her den secret and bringing her food now and then, and damn it all, this was getting to be a good gig.

“Come on, let’s go say hi,” Xenia whispered excitedly to her companion. Before Nashia could raise her voice in protest the little leopon had crawled out from under the leaf and was bounding over to her sister. She cast a nervous glance over her shoulder and reluctantly followed Xenia into the open.

“Hi Aina!” Xenia chimed. “Are you making another story? It sounds really good!”

Aina never realized she had jumped five feet back from her sister until she wondered why she was so faraway. Her cheeks felt hot with embarrassment. Xenia caught her saying her stories aloud, something no one had accomplished. The leopon recovered her composure and sat down, staring nervously at her sister before she took notice of the rabbit.

A rabbit. Following behind her sister. Now, she knew how to keep from blurting questions, yet why was a rabbit following her sister?

It was a strange scent for her. She never did see live rabbits before. They were all killed for food; she always wondered what rabbits could say when they were alive. She supposed this might be her chance.

"Hi Xenia!" She called happily, pretending not moments before she had been scared out of her pelt. "How are you, and your friend?" Her tail flicked over to the rabbit. She knew better than to call it prey, since by the way it looked this rabbit wasn't about to be eaten.

Had Xenia been protecting it?

She shrugged to herself.

It was not uncommon for Xenia to be seen bringing home small animals. She even brought animals back to the nanny’s den that her sisters considered gross, frogs and snakes and lizards. The animals usually ran away or were taken away by the nannies before things got out of hand. There was a time when the adults worried they would never get her weaned because she would refuse to eat meat if she could tell what kind of animal it used to be. Those days were past now, Xenia was a meat eater just like her brothers and sisters, but her rescuing behavior hadn’t stopped.

Xenia smiled while the rabbit looked out from between her legs. It had a rather nasty look aimed at Aina.

“We’re fine,” Xenia said cheerfully. Her cheerfulness faded slightly when she saw the look her new companion was giving to her sister. “Nashia, are you going to say hi?”

Nashia tilted her head to look Xenia in the eyes. She never liked kids. Maybe it was because she had so many little brothers and sisters growing up. Xenia might be bigger and stronger than her, but she was still just a kid. She turned to Aina, eyes darting nervously. She wanted to look brave but her voice came out harsh and a little rude. “… Hi.”

Aina remembered quite clearly how angry the nannies had been when her sister brought home all of these assortment of lizards, and anything that was small. They defiantly left Xenia sad and angry when the nannies ended up taking the small animals and setting them free. Though, it was better than being eaten for dinner, right? She tilted her head towards the rabbit and smiled, easily being as friendly as she could even if she was sending nasty looks in her direction.

"Hi, Nashia!" She greeted towards the rabbit. A happy smile was adorning her facial features. "I'm Aina, nice to meet you!"

She couldn't say that Nashia was happy being introduced to her. On the contrary, she could say that she was afraid of the black leopon. Being a rabbit must be hard thanks to her species and the others. A flicker of sadness passed through her eyes before she looked back at her sister.

"Where did you find her?" She asked as her gaze landed on Nashia.

Xenia wrinkled her nose and said in detest, “A mean leopard boy was hurting her. And he didn’t even have any reason for it!”

She hated seeing other cubs toying with small animals like they were prey. The hunters kept all the cubs well fed. When she got between the leopard and Nashia, he even admitted he wasn’t hungry. He said he was only funning with her. Funning? Xenia didn’t think it was very fun for Nashia.

It never occurred to her that the cubs that did this were just practicing to be hunters when they grew up. The nannies tried to explain it to her, because she was often riled up by the sight of another cub trying to harm a small animal, but it only made her more upset. She was perhaps the only feline in all of Africa born without a predatory bone in her body. She chased things just like any cub, but she only did it because she wanted to make friends.

Nashia arched a brow at the black leopard… thing. She honestly couldn’t keep them straight anymore. The world was a simpler place before all these obtuse felines started going to their dens together. Sex sex sex sex sex, that’s all this big crazy world ever thinks about. And killing. Yes, sex and killing, that’s what life means.
