because good, or likeable novels evoke strong emotional responses in me.seriously? "emotionally attached"? books are not pets or family or friends. they're fiction. if the book is happy and makes you feel happy, or if it's sad and it makes you cry, then bravo. it's a good book (for most of the time), or at least a powerful one. but emotionally attached? so, what -- i'd hate to see what these people would do if they dropped their books in storm drains.

Naaah. I felt nothing when I fell asleep in the bath with my To Kill a Mockinbird and it got soaked. Nooooothing. D<
Maybe she meant the CONTENTS of the book. 'Cause my books get ruined a lot.

even with the contents of a book.
who in the hell would throw themselves into a depression just because a main character dies? sure, you'd cry, if you're that type. but the concept of a good person dying is sad, anyways.
emotionally attached to a book?

I get emotionally attached to books. x.X I cry and go depressed for like a day when a favorite character of mine dies after like 3 books. D= Omg why did he become a tree. ;o;
I mean it is strange if the books wasn't that good, but I mean some people just have an emotional roller coaster when they read. My friend does that she feels ever emotion when reading and experiences it during her reading. I've seen what occurs to her while reading, if a character dies that she likes she cries, if something good happens she emotionally shows it.
Some people do get emotionally attached and some times it is generally not always by choice. o.O
Also I would say I am emotionally attached to my copy of The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien and seriously I went into a panic state when I thought I lost my copy. D= It also has much wear and tear to it with tape all over the spine. Been read 5 times... so I would say I am emotionally attached to my book. Is that a crime? .____.

For me, it's like watching a movie. I see the scenes and from there I feel like I am apart of the story, and yeah, I get a little attached to it.

Illustrated Indignity Depression? Over a book?
I don't...get....sad over deaths. Not in books, not in real life.
Boy. My heart must be made of coal.
The only death i cried over was Michael Jackson... And I didn't even really KNOW him... I feel bad now, cause I didn't cry at my family's... It was distant family, but still family... *Shuffles guiltily*

I didn't cry when some one died in Burned (i don't want to spoil the end) and I didn't cry at the end of Impulse either. the only character I cried about dying was in Lord of the Flies when my mom read it to me when I was eight.

.....In a book...? I get sad, for like 6 seconds. Vocaloid songs have made me cry, but I've gotten used to the heartwrenching pretty sounding stories (a bit).
For the book...I go "aww...no way!!!! ****** died?! Why?!" And then I calm down & continue reading.
I don't get majorly depressed.
When Zexion died, I don't remember getting really sad or depressed. I remember getting really angry. And Zexy's my favorite character of all freakin' time.

I am never that attached to a book to become depressed if a character dies. I may feel sad, for a little bit, but that's it.

Well, to me, reading a story or watching a movie is kind of...an involved thing. If it's good, I immerse myself in it. And I DO get attatched to characters. Sure, they're fictional, but they're still...kind of real to me. Because storytelling, writing and art is a huge thing with me, they DO become important to me. Storytelling is SUPPOSED to evoke emotion, you're SUPPOSED to bond and relate with the characters. That's the whole POINT.
When a character I love dies... I accept it because death is a part of life and should therefore be part of literature that DEPICTS life, but I do get sad. The last few Harry Potter books were insane. I mean, I'm still kind of coping with Fred, Snape and Sirius's death. I don't know if I've ever really freaked out and CRIED over a character's death before...I just have to be really emotional to cry. So I get really sad and upset that they're gone sometimes, but I don't cry and I really try to accept it and continue on with the book. And I usually do, too.
As for being attatched to books themselves...Well, if a book is that important to me, yes. I sometimes get frazzled if I can't find a manga that I probably just misplaced. And I generally am kind of a**l about the condition my books are in...I don't like curling the covers(if they're paperback) too much cause then you set them down and the cover pops up and looks weird...Yeah, I know I'm strange. But I don't know. Books are important. I would ALWAYS rather read something by a book instead of digitally. Books are WONDERFUL. I'm often protective of my books, a**l about opening the covers too much, and I would be pissed if one of my books disappeared without explanation.
So...I don't know. I don't see anything wrong with getting attatched to characters or books you love, I mean, it's human nature sometimes to be attatched to SOMETHING, even if it doesn't make sense...It's sometimes like a comfort thing...But it's when you actually let it take over you or you become unable to discern fact from fiction that's the problem. I don't think it's too big of a deal. It's actually pretty natural.

The only books I'm emotionally attatched to are ones that have special meanings to me- the last book a relative gave me before they died, and a book from a close friend who moved far away in highschool. But its more the people and what they meant to me- represented by said books- than the books themselves.
