Imrahi made her rounds in the school's clinic, carefully looking over and checking over every patient. The three patients that filled the cots in the clinic were sleeping soundly, not stirring and appeared to be faring well for the night. She glanced around the silent clinic and then made her way over to the front desk and started to clean up.

Imrahi was in training to be a healer and was only one year away from graduating from the magic school. So far, her instructors were pleased with her progress and had even gone as far as putting her in charge of the night shifts of the clinic. Sure..so not much happened on her hours, but she was in complete charge of the clinic..and that was something she was quite proud of.

None of the other healers in training had been given that much responsibility..and sure they were a bit jealous about it, but they weren't about to try and pull any horrible pranks on her. They saw how hard she worked and strove diligently through the assignments and did her work. She had earned every merit that she got.

She smiled happily to herself and settled down at the front desk, smoothing her hands out on the marble top and waited for a new patient to work on. If someone didn't show up within the next few minutes she figured she'd work on organizing the medicine closet and washing the floors. The floors were getting attrocious to look at.

Ethequiri'zyl sat in her small office and tried to read over some of her notes. There was not much left to do here. She eyed the door which joined her office to her private work room at the school and considered going back to work. The teacher had been pulling some all-nighters herself lately in order to keep working away to try out her latest experimental idea. It was taking her very long to find the right approach towards giving an animated object more independence. Using some demon would be the obvious solution for most drow. No, Ethe was trying to find her own way to grant an object some self-awareness.

Ethe had put one of her favorite lackeys to good use earlier that day to round up various medicines and herbs. One strong concoction later and Ethe could still not take any reverie. She had expected the effects to fade by now. In frustration, the enchantress leaned forward in her chair and launched a swift kick to topple a side table. She stood up with a groan.

As soon as the female stood, a strange sensation hit. Ethe first thought it was only a rush of blood. She was quickly proven very wrong. A cool stinging burn spread across her skin. The drow bit her tongue hard to stifle any sound as she tried to think fast. Poison? She had to assume the worst. She had taken enough medicines, herbs, and drugs to know that this was something going purposefully wrong.

"No," Ethe couldn't help but groan the single angry word. This was building slowly compared to some poisons. It would be torture.

She rummaged in a drawer, swiping her house insignia near the lock as she murmured the right sequence of words. It sprang open and she grabbed an antidote. Who knew if it would help or not. The potion would counteract or at least slow the progression further. Her dark hands shook as another coursing wave of pain took her. Finally, the bottle was opened and Ethe tipped it back to drink the contents. Her throat seized.

Most of the liquid made it down. Ethe staggered towards the door as her head kept on pounding. She tried to tell herself to be calm. Breath normally. But how? A drow's self-control could only go so far when one's body was trying to self-destruct. It was much too late for students to be about. Ethe wondered if anyone would even be in the clinic at all! If not, maybe she would have enough strength to rummage for something else to remove the poison from her system. Damn! Being in the Noquaniyl House would be a blessing right now. A priestess or a healer could have come to her aid by now. Didn't they have wands for this sort of thing?

Ethe could not tell if the potion was helping or if the poison was simply a very slow one. Her breathing was still steady and the pain was not too sharp. Almost as if on cue, Ethe tumbled across a low stone bench. Goddess! Her vision was spotty. The enchantress did not right herself immediately. She took a few long breaths. The clinic door was just up ahead. Shakily, she got up to her knees on the pale marble and shouted as loud as she could muster for a healer. Ethe stood up, using the wall for support, and started making her way to the door.

Im'rahi shot up from her seat at the desk when she heard a shout for help. For a split second she stood there not really certain she had heard it. Then she shook her head and dashed over to the closed door and swung it open. She could just make out female's figure a few feet away struggling to remain upright.

Im'rahi ran across the stone walk over to the female, pulled the female's arm around her neck and steadied her with her other arm around her waist. Then without another moment's wait she helped her inside the clinic and onto an empty bed as gently as she could.

"How can I help you?"
Im'rahi asked urgently, seeing the fearful expression in the female's eyes.

If she wasn't feeling so dreadful and angry at herself most of all for having let this happen, Ethe could almost have smiled with relief to see a healer coming to her aid. The other female helped Ethe to walk and took her to a bed. Ethe collapsed gratefully but could feel her body's senses reeling.

Her spirit was still riled and more vile than usual. The poison hadn't taken that away yet. When the healer asked her simple question, Ethe could not comprehend. How could she help? Did they really take on apprentices this worthless? Shouldn't it be obvious? Ethe always had trouble with assuming a high sense of self-importance, and when truly in need of help she was no different.

"Goddess! How can you..!" Ethe blurted out a few words mixed with curses before finally grunting at the healer, "Poison!"

Her vision seemed to be fading one moment then clearing up as she moved her head. This was getting sickening. Ethe wanted to keep her head still against the bed. She couldn't help it, a roll of pain and she found herself turning to keep from choking on whatever was making its way up. Wonderful. Blood dripped from the enchantress's mouth unto the floor.

Im'rahi's heart raced when she heard the female's words. Poison? Damn..what had her teachers taught her about dealing with poisons? Then as though her body had had a complete personality change, her mind and will snapped to attention and the nerves racing through her disappeared into nothingness.

She flew across the room, pulled out several bottles, poured them into a bowl mixing them together and added a few herbs to the concoction. After mixing it, she bowed her head and in a lilting tone performed a prayer of healing over it. She opened her eyes and was pleased to see the concoction was now bubbling. She waited, until the bubbling subsided and the new potion chilled changing colors from a bright blue to a deep dark red.

Then she took a bottle, a funnel and poured the whole concoction down the funnel into the bottle, which she promptly carried over to the female in the bed. Before giving her the concoction, Im'rahi made her drink a small glass of water to clear her mouth of blood and spit it in a pail.

"Drink this, it should stop the affects of the poison." She said, as she maneuvered the bottle to the female's mouth so not to loose any of it.

Ethe tried to keep calm as the healer rushed about the room. She could only assume she knew what she was doing. This was what it came down to? Trusting a strange. The Spider Goddess was truly not to be predicted. The enchantress laughed at her cruel predicament. Trusting someone got her poisoned and now she had to trust someone to save her..

The healer offered some water and Ethe hesitated for a moment, her movement was slow and awkward but she managed to drink and rinse her mouth. The next bottle offered was a dark blood red. Ethe drank carefully this time. And now to wait.

Laying her head back, Ethe closed her eyes and whispered silent words in her mind to the Goddess. It was too foolish to plead or ask for anything. She could only affirm that she was ever a servant, 'I know you test me Lolth and I can only vow to live to be tested by you again for I will always dedicate my success to you,'

Her body felt cold again even as she silently prayed to the Goddess to not end her servant's testing here. Ethe groaned aloud. Even as she shivered from the chilling sensation, her vision seemed to be clearing. The stubborn drow told her muscles to move and lift her but her body told her to wait. She relaxed back on the table.

Im'rahi's nerves were on fire, as she inwardly prayed to the Spider Queen to grant her a lowly healer favor in her work. She hoped that the female, who she know recognized as one of the teachers still held favor with the dark goddess. She really didn't want to think what might happen to her if her administrations failed to heal the teacher though she could imagine the scene that would occur.

She had seen it only a few days earlier when a fellow student had mistakenly given another student a medicine that had killed them. The other female had been whipped soundly for it, and then thrown out of the school in a very public ritual. It hadn't ended there either..the family of the dead student had immediately whisked the poor healer away for their torture room. Im'rahi shuddered just thinking about it.

If that were to happen to her, it would most likely be ten times worse and a much more public spectacle since the female in front of her was from the Noquaniyl House. She tried to ease her nerves and decided to make herself useful while waiting for the potion to take affect. She pulled a blanket over the teacher's shivering body and tried to summon a heat spell to keep the female from catching a cold. Her hands flared up slightly and then shimmered when she placed them on the female's legs and willed the heat into her.

Ethe was glad that all of this time was passing uneventfully. She was still alive and not worsening! The teacher vaguely felt the healer hovering around again. She noticed her body getting warmer. Her chills subsided. Finally, Ethe felt her mind start to sharpen and her thoughts broke past the muddle of pain. She still wouldn't consider herself recovered just yet, but at least she could talk and reason again clearly.

Ethe rolled over half on her side to tilt herself up on a elbow. She wanted to at least be able to look the healer in the eyes. It was such a sickening feeling of weakness to have to talk to someone while lying flat on your back. The Noquaniyl gestured to the healer and whispered a few words of warning, "You will say not a word about this to anyone." Ethe coughed to clear her throat and ignored the lingering taste of her own blood, "No one can know or my retribution will be as swift as if you had poisoned me yourself. Do you understand?"

It was worth considering that the healer, if she had been complicit in the attack, would only have had to deny Ethe the antidote potion. No one would have known. She could have even cooked up a worthless red drink and tortured the teacher with false hope. But she had instead done her work well and it was looking every minute like the healer had been successful. Ethe realized that this healer, whoever she was, was really the only drow at the school whom she could affirmatively rule out as not involved. No one else was to be trusted.

Im'rahi breathed a sigh of relief when she saw the color coming back in the teacher's face. She muttered a prayer of thanks to the goddess for showing her favor in her work, and drew closer to the older female when she beckoned her closer. Her nerves shot up once more when the words she spoke to her fully registered in her mind.

"Y-y-yes Lady."
Im'rahi stuttered in reply..completely freaked out by what the other had just told her.

"Is there anything else that I can do for you?" She asked next, smoothing her dress down keeping her eyes adverted to the ground and fighting off the nausea that was building in her stomach.

Im'rahi was at a loss for anything else to say, as she had never been threatened so bluntly before. She stood in front of her feeling awkward and nervous. She turned her gaze to the other beds suddenly remembering that there were other patients in the clinic. Thankfully they were all still sound asleep and had heard nothing that had transpired between the teacher and Rahi.

Ethe glowered at the girl as she stammered. Weak. The enchantress had literally been about to visit their Goddess in the Abyss and she still felt more strength and will power than what this excuse before her was showing! The teacher took a deep breath and focused on getting herself to sit up.

With effort, she did. Ethe could feel her head spinning but the accompanying nauseous sensation didn't last too long. She huffed and answered the waiting healer, "If you can keep your wits about you, I have a few things you might do for me. First, help me get up! Can we talk in confidence here?" Ethequiri'zyl was trying to see if the other patient's were possibly awake. Even in a reverie they could possibly hear, but in their illness they may be passed out and sound asleep. She didn't recognize any of the other patients at least.

Ethe made up her mind to at least try to talk to the girl and maybe get her assistance. If she could contain the knowledge of her poisoning to this one other drow, it would make it much easier to track down the guilty party.

Im'rahi's eyebrows narrowed at the tone from the other female. She was rather unhappy that she had stuttered when she had replied to the teacher. Sure she was supposed to show deference to the older female but that didn't mean she had to look weak when she did it. It was time to buck up and get some backbone and not act like a spineless weakling.

"My wits are perfectly fit, Madam."
She replied, a rather concerned look fluttering over her face when she saw how dizzy the other still was.

"It may be better for you not to leave just yet, you still haven't recovered fully. There is a private room that's not in use, if you'd prefer to go talk there. The Private room is sequestered out of ear range and charmed against magical devices and spells, so yes it is safe."
Im'rahi replied in a low whisper, as she steadied the other and helped Ethe to her feet.
PostPosted: Tue Jul 14, 2009 11:04 pm

Ethe gritted her teeth and said nothing for a moment. Then, she relented and gave the healer a curt nod. "Alright then, take me to the room and I will stay there to rest for a while after we talk."

Her unhappy attitude was not merely stemming from still feeling shaky and not at all herself. That was only the barest tip of it really. Being poisoned started a chain effect of other worries. Who, why, how.. But aside from all of that, Ethequiri'zyl never liked being seen in a clinic or with a healer too often in the first place. It could cause whispering and rumors to spread amongst drow in the school like wildfire, as they greedily considered what it might mean for them, how they could benefit, and it there was something they could get away with while their teacher was suitably distracted. They'd run with the weakness for all it was worth. Giving them that type of encouragement would be a nightmare. Their behavior could quickly become a terror to reign in!

For the moment, Ethe intended to honor her word and listen to the healer's suggestion to rest longer in the clinic. There would be no trouble with it if the healer could keep the private room as private as she claimed.

Since the other female had helped her to her feet, Ethe remained beside her to let her steady her as she prepared to walk. It would be better to be helped than to fall again already! The room's surface started to wobble dizzily for just a moment after Ethe had stood, but it quickly righted itself and Ethe started walking. Her steps were very tentative and slow.

Im'rahi breathed a sigh of relief at the teacher's words. It seemed that the lady knew good advice when she heart it, even when it was from a lowly clinic student. Usually Im'rahi hadn't had too many encounters with teachers in the clinic, most of them had private healers to see to their needs. She couldn't help but wonder why a teacher of Ethequirizyl's status didn't have one of her own. Perhaps the poison had been too quick acting for her to contact anyone else and the clinic had been closer. Whatever the reason, Im'rahi was glad that she had been able to help as much as she had.

Im'rahi tightened her grip on the teacher when she felt the female rock unsteadily on her feet. She worriedly examined Ethe's eyes for signs of poison. Some poisons could hide in one's system for days and need more than one dose of the anti-poison agent that she had brewed. Thankfully Im'rahi didn't see any signs of poison in the female's eyes or features and Ethequirizyl got steadier on her feet as she slowly began to make her way to the private room with Im'rahi's aid.

The trip took several moments at the pace that Ethequirizyl had established. Im'rahi remained silent as she helped her across the tiled floor, even though the muscles in her arms and back screamed in protest. She wasn't really used to supporting so much weight at one time, so she was rather relieved when she was able to finally distribute Ethe on the goose down mattress gently.

Im'rahi rubbed her shoulder and neck slightly as she made her way back to the door and pulled it shut. Once she thought about it, she figured that Ethe might be in need of something to drink.
"Is there anything I can get you Lady? Water? Tea?" Im'rahi asked, turning back around to look at Ethequirizyl's face.
PostPosted: Sat Aug 01, 2009 1:56 pm

Ethe was relieved to finally be in a private setting again. It relaxed her just to know that no one was going to see her. She sank down on the bed with a groan. There was no way she was going to be leaving here quickly!

"Something a little stronger might be nice." The teacher paused and rethought her words, "Well if you bring some water, I trust you have plenty of more pain medications I could be washing down. And maybe some to save for later."

Ethe did not plan on leaving the clinic empty handed if possible. But her real concern was finding out if this healer could be even more useful.

"I am sure you can expect that I want to know who would dare to do this. If you understand my position," Ethe gestured with a hand to indicate the school, rolling her eyes a little as she sighed. She knew that plenty of rumors and twisted gossip circulated the place. It was true that Ethe was not on the good side of many. "Then I think you understand why I am not about to let word of this out. I'm afraid you are the only one in the place that I am prepared to think uninvolved, since you did save me."

Im'rahi frowned slightly at the teacher's first words. Sure, so the teacher had just gone through a rather hectic experience and felt that indulging in a few spirits would help settle her nerves. Unfortunately that wouldn't be a wise thing, as alcohol could trigger even worse symptoms if the poison wasn't completely drained from her system.

She was just about to open her mouth to say so, when the teacher suddenly changed her mind. Im'rahi blinked a bit surprised, but closed her mouth and kept her thoughts to herself.
"Water I can get, and some herbs that will help reduce your pain as well. Chemical compositions however, would only cause worse symptoms, especially following after you've been poisoned."

She was reaching for the door knob once more, when the teacher spoke once more. Im'rahi turned, giving the Ethe her complete attention. She had found out quickly enough on her first day in classes that the thing teachers hated the most were students who didn't give their full attention.

"I understand why you would. If it had been me, I would want to know who had done it myself."
Im'rahi returned in a soft tone. "I shall keep all of this matter to myself. If there is any way I can help you figure out who it was, I would be most honored to do so."
