You probably have no idea what my question means...but if you liked a pokemon, is it only for it's type or something else? (i know some of you out there like them for the looks or names)
I'm new to this guild so no hate stuff. lol

I like pokemon that have 'personality'. How can I phrase that better, hmm... Okay, I like pokemon I imagine to be expressive, affectionate, and outgoing. You won't catch me fawning over Baltoy anytime soon, though I think Solrock's kinda cool.

but it's kinda hard to picture a pokemon's personality since there aren't all the same. i know for one that jigglypuffs are mischievious and like to draw mrgreen

I like the Pokémon I like mainly for personal reasons.
My first Pokémon games were Gold and Silver, so I grew attached to Ho-Oh and Lugia. This love was intensified when an good friend of mine and I started RPing as a Lugia and Ho-Oh (respectively) who were brothers.
For Typhlosion, I always used Cyndaquil in GSC, so I quickly grew attached to the line. Enough to give several RP characters of mine Typhlosions, which caused me to love them even more.
Flygon and Milotic are kinda like that, too. I love dragons and snakes in real life, so I liked these two, but I didn't start really loving them until I gave them to some other RP characters of mine as well.
As for Ninetales, I have no idea why I originally started liking her, but she's now so deeply ingrained with my image, I love her like no other.
TL;DR: I have personal reasons for liking what I like, reasons that go beyond a Pokémon's appearance/name/strength/etc. 3nodding

I like for appearance or what the dex entry goes by. When I first saw Tropius in RSE, I thought "OMFG, THAT MUST BE A RARE POKEMON!" and caught it because it also looked effin' cool. Then I read the dex entry and fell even more in love.... even if mine can't win that many battles. Lickitung, I think I liked it just because it was unconventional. I hadn't heard of a glutton monster back then, and because it was pink was only a bonus.
I started GSC with Chikorita, before even reading/skimming through my Game Guide, and soon learned that was the worst choice to make--- not that I minded. By then, I knew enough about Pokemon and types to get through first a flying-type gym, then a bug-type, and so on.
A lot of my favorites are also based on how they appear in the show, as that helps add to their image [or in some cases, take away from it. Cacnea lost points once James caught his.]
It's kinda like what Tippy says, although I haven't had as much RP experience with Pokemon as she has. [In fact, the first time I RP'd with Pokemon was when I was a sophomore, and the first time writing with Pokemon was a few years before that---*shudders as she remembers the fanfic that hasn't been finished and needs serious updating*] Espeon and Umbreon I liked because of their elements and because they were a part of the Eevee family. I used to choose Jolteon over over Eeveelutions until Esp/Umb came out, and then it used to be Umbreon first, always. However, ever since I started RPing with a Pokemon team for one of my characters [giving her all my game pokemon], I've grown to like Espeon more over the dark type. I have no idea who I will want my Eevee in HG/SS evolve into now, especially considering that I already got all the Eeveelutions on all my games, ready to be trained or already trained.

That's kinda awesome.
My Blaziken/Torchic from Ruby had a Naughty nature. And so does my lollerkip. o_O And I think all Naughty Pokemon like spicy food, because my Mudkip sure enjoys it. It's also Mischievious [I don't remember Terrance's second nature offhand, but I think it had something to do with power.]
