Race: Human

Birthdate: July 27

Age: 17

Blood type: B-

_______________________________________________________________

Occupation: Junior going on Senior in High School

Mode of Transportation: None

Hobbies: Fighting

Motto: “Aw dawg, you done done it now!”

Appearance: When you look at Nexus, depending on the situation, you may or may not think of one of two things: casually uninterested and lazy, or excited to the point of insanity. Yeah, they’re pretty much the two major sides of him appearance wise. He’s bored and uninterested with most of the everyday things in life and at times will drift away into his own fantasy land, leaving only a shell of himself in the realm of reality, and when he sees reality as something that could actually be cool, he gets overly excited about it. At times like those, you’ll see him with a big smile, almost sly in a way.

Nexus is a person of with an odd style. Aside from his naturally blue hair, which somehow defies gravity, creating something of an “anime” like flair, he’s just plain weird looking, but in a cool way.

Of course, he thinks he looks good, I mean it’s his style, needless to say he’s happy with it. He dresses fairly simple, yet somehow stereotypical for your average gangster thug. You know, the super baggy pants, the oversized t-shirt, that kinda stuff, but what separates him from your average black dude (aside from his hair. Heh, seriously have you seen a dude like this before? Crazy stuff,) is his style of dark colors. Some call it goth, others emo, scene, all of which he is neither of course, and he doesn’t do the whole make up thing people in those subcultures often do, quite frankly, he finds that kinda mess gay and wouldn’t be caught dead with any essence of the subject on him, but he does take the color of those groups. Now think, what’s the one recurring color you see outta all the groups mentioned? I’ll tell you; it’s black. Yep, Nexus is known for dressing in black. Why? I don’t know. He just does. He likes the color, the simplicity of it. It’s just there, kinda like him, just there. Now of course, he doesn’t wear all black. That would be just silly, and too much of a hassle for him to keep up with. Sometimes, he’ll put on a grey shirt here and there, a vest of some sort, maybe a jacket with a neutral color. Maybe you could classify him as a “straightedge hardcore kid.” If labeling’s that big of deal to you, then that’s probably the best thing to go for.

Oh yeah, one other thing. As weird as this sounds, you’ll almost always see him carrying around a sword. Yeah, it’s a genuine katana. It’s one of his most prized possessions. It gives him that sense of coolness, and also adds on to this crazy idea of his that he’s the super hero of some TV show. The hero always carries a sword, right? Well so does he.

That sword is actually his kakugane in its activated state. Yeah, he’s that bold. But hey, who’s gonna know? Some average Joe off the street is just gonna see some kid carryin’ a sword. Of course he’ll deactivate it when he goes to school or inside some store, but out in the open, out on the streets, out explorin’, it’s out there. Don’t ask why, it just is.

Personality: Nexus is a child through and through. He finds amusement in the simple things of life, like watching the sunset, staring up at a full moon, playing his favorite type of video games, listening to music… the list goes on, but with his mindset, he doesn’t really stay occupied with things for a lengthy amount of time. With him, there needs to be a type of sharp shift, something to keep him interested, otherwise his mind will go someplace else. It’s a common trait in most of today’s youth, and most people grow out of it once they lose the teen suffix in their age, so maybe there’s some hope for Nexus.

Now on the subject of maturity, there is no hope. I’m sorry, but this dude can’t mature for the life of him. He is a kid, and he will forever stay a kid. He still thinks girls are “icky,” (which is actually a copout for him to avoid them. He kinda has a fear of them for reasons I’ll explain in a few moments), he doesn’t mind picking his nose in public, or scratching his tail, he still thinks babies come from the stork, and he doesn’t really understand sexual innuendos. Now this lack of maturity may actually be a good thing. Kids are supposedly innocent and pure, so maybe with him having the mindset of one will keep him that way.

Now what was that about girls? Oh yeah, quite a funny subject actually. Nexus is, uh-- what’s the best way of putting this-- shy, he’s really shy around girls. The only ones he actually feels comfortable enough to have a non-broken conversation with are the ones he’s grown up with. As for all the others, he goes into complete solitary mode around. It’s at times like these, you’ll find him off to himself, being completely reclusive. If you ever manage to get a sentence out of him in situations like these, it’ll be either really stuttered or really short. He’s trying to work on this, because quite frankly, it’s a little silly to get like this around girls, but he lacks the gall to face this thing head on, which is even sillier because in any other situation, he’ll accept the challenge, face it head on, get his face clobbered in, and come back for more until he’s won, but not with this. Not with girls.

And here comes the fun part: his obsession with fighting. Ever since he was a kid, Nexus would always be the one who’d try and beat up on people, but not just any kinda person, but those much bigger than him. There’s something about the thrill that gets him and keeps drawing him back in. It got worse over time. He’d pick out some random guy who’d look like he could punch his face in, and challenge him to a fight right there. If the guy said no, then well, there’s no point in trying to force ‘im to fight because to Nexus, a reluctant fighter won’t fight his best, but when he get’s that occasional yes, it’s all over.

As rowdy and boisterous this character is, he has a keen sense of honor. ‘Tis something he can thank his mother for. No matter what the circumstances, he’ll never go against the good Book, and that Book just happens to be the Bible. Ah yes, a Christian through and through this guy is. Sure he may play around a lot, and he may have an unhealthy obsession with fighting, and he may even carry around a lethal weapon, he won’t ever go against his Father. This adds up to be quite a contrary character, but since when is anyone straight binary? Nope, he won’t hit girls, he does his best to honor his mother, he prays everyday, tries to keep joy within his heart, and will even try to brighten someone else’s day with a smile.

Background: The story of Nexus is something really worth telling. Let me see if I can get this right. Alright, here we go.

He was born in America. From day one, the dude was always into somethin’. He had a habit of getting into trouble. Nothin’ too big, a few mischievous antics that your average toddler could get into. Stealin’ cookies from the cookie jar, breaking things (by accident of course), getting other people into trouble, etc. The biggest thing he had a problem with was with fighting. It’s not like he’d do it out of rage or spite, it was just because he liked it. The dude grew up watchin’ Power Rangers, DBZ, and every other action cartoon in the book. It was cool and all. He was a boy being a boy, but after a while, he sorta got outta hand. He’d fight with anyone for anything. He’d fight with anyone for nothing, and that ain’t cool. So what was the answer? “The boy needs to learn discipline,” said his father. He’d get butt whoopin’s from his mom for it, from his dad, too. Time outs, grounded. Eventually, (like at about 6 years of age) he got fed up with all the punishment and decided to straighten up, which is great.

So things went good for about a good year, but then when his dad left, he started back up. His mom imagined it was because of the abandonment, which turned into separation, which ultimately led to divorce, so she tried to sympathize and be easy on him for that, but the more she stepped back and let him loose, the worse he got. She had to put her foot down, and it came down hard.

She got on his tail for everything. She was finally over “big head” leaving and was set on making sure her son would become nothing like that. She wanted to raise a man, a real man who would be a true, well educated, God-fearing, African American. She wanted her son to break the cycle of deadbeat dads. So she got him into studying, she got him into healthy physical activities to appease that need for violence, blah blah. So things were set on track for another good few years.

But then, at the age of 13, he saw somethin’ that no child should’ve ever seen in their life. He saw an attack, a monster attack. It came and destroyed everything. The monsters--there were so many--destroyed everything, everything he knew. It was just like all those cartoons he saw on TV, but actually seeing it--man, it was horrible. His entire town was overrun by these creatures--demons, and not only did they destroy, they ate. He saw his friends being eaten alive, he saw his entire life torn apart. So what did he do?

Fight

He fought the monsters, or at least tried to. He tried to fight, but it just wasn’t worth anything. His punches did nothing, his kicks were useless, everything he knew was useless. And then his mom was taken. Taken, beaten, and destroyed. Guess what. He saw that, too, and he was next. He still tried to fight. He’s never known giving up, but it was useless. He was going to die, and there was nothing he could do about it.

And then the savior came.

He was bathed in light, and he brought an army of angels. These angels did battles with the demons and ended up saving the boy’s life. Nexus was awestricken.

He was so relieved to be alive--for about two seconds. Then it all came back to him. He was alone, and in a city that was torn to pieces. His family was torn to pieces. He was alone and with no where left to go. The angels came to him.

As it turns out, those angels were alchemists. He later learned that those demons were called homunculi. The alchemists took Nexus in. It wasn’t a home--he never thought it that--but it was something.

He was relocated to Japan--Ginsei to be exact--and carried out the missions the alchemists gave him. Over time, he moved passed the slaughter of his city. He promised himself that he’d never let it get to him, and to this day, he’s kept it. That was the best thing he’s ever done. He’s had a pleasant life--as far as being a kid in the alchemist regime goes, and got to fight as much as he liked.

Then by about 14 almost 15, he didn’t really care for what the alchemists were doing. On the last few of his missions, his squad ran into this human homunculus. “The dude’s just like us,” he said. Sure, he was willing to fight him, but the alchemists wanted him killed. The called him a “threat to humanity.” He couldn’t get down with that. Homunculus or not, the dude was still human, and he’s not one to take another person’s life. However, his teammates thought otherwise.

The mission ended in success. The group did indeed kill the humanoid homunculus, and Nexus hated it and the regime for it ever since. Shortly after, he disappeared.

The dude became a rouge, went AWOL. The alchemists haven’t heard from much from him since.

Even though he wasn’t a part of the Alchemists Regime anymore, he still considered himself on the side of righteousness, in fact more so than before. He still fought the homunculi on a daily basis, and still did good where he could.

So that’s what he was doin’ then. By 15, he actually got caught up into something big. There was this other human homunculus goin’ crazy. He was doin’ some crazy, crazy stuff, for real, for real. The dude’s name was Tokushi. He called himself the “Metal Tyrant.” He was goin’ around stealin’ Alchemists’ Kakugane. That wasn’t cool.

Nexus tried takin’ on the dude himself. He actually fought alongside some fellow alchemists against him. With each fight he got stronger, but so did Tokushi. In a final confrontation with the Metal Tyrant, Nexus lost his life. The demon killed him, and even took his kakugane. So what? The legend dies? Nah, that ain’t how the story goes.

By sheer chance of luck, another alchemist walked by. He saw Nexus lying in the dirt, and gave him a kakugane. The kakugane entered the boy’s body and jumpstarted everything. Nexus woke up like he was havin’ a bad dream. He died, but came back. He didn’t understand the mechanics of everything, but the alchemist went to explain that the kakugane is now functioning as his heart. He activated his Kakugane and it seemed to be a little better than the last. “So, I’m back from the dead. What now?” The alchemist suggested teaming up to take down the one who did that to him, but Nexus actually turned him down. That was the last he ever saw of that dude.

After that, he went back to his old ways, with one little difference. He cut back on the alchemist and started hitting the books again. He sorta neglected his studies for a while and got in the habit of skipping class to fight homunculi. After this new chance at life, he decided to live it a little differently, see how it plays out.

Currently, he’s attending school full time, getting homework on weeknights, and only fighting homunculi on the weekends. “Oh yeah, got my priorities straight, now.”

Special Ability Of your Buso Renkin: When activated, his Buso Renkin actually increases his speed and agility to the point that he actually gains a sense of foresight. When wielding it, he can leap to new heights, soar to new levels. All and all, he becomes something of a super human with it, but it doesn’t necessarily stop there. You see, the reason his physical feats are increased is because of this running stream of energy his kakugane has. That energy can be fired off in streams of golden light that do damage.

Episode One: The Fire

Nexus was found walking the streets, casually minding his own business like usual. Imagine his surprise when he looked up to see an apartment on fire. He rushed to the scene to see what was what and then stupidly jumped right in it. His heart was in the right place, though. Something inside him told him that someone was in trouble, and after going through Hell and back, he rescued a little girl from the flames. However, in smoke was too much for the boy's lungs, so as soon as he and the girl made it to safety (thanks to a certain homunculus), he passed out. The ambulance rushed him and the other victims of the fire to the nearest hospital. He stayed there for close to two days, but recovered as good as new. As soon as he found out how okay he was, he left without a word.

Episode Two: Self Reflection

After leaving the hospital, Nexus returned to the streets. Instead of walking on the sidewalks like normal people are supposed to do, he decided it best to jump from rooftop to rooftop like some crazy ninja. Finally coming to a stop, he faced himself head on. He's got a fear, and that fear is girls. He argued against himself trying to say it was no big deal, but he lost. Then this dude, some crazy dude he's never seen before jumps on the same building he's at and just flat out calls him out. So Nexus is like "who the crud are you?" The dude says "that's none of your business." And that's the end of that. The dude turns out to be some chef at a restaurant or somethin', which was good since Nexus was pretty hungry. He and him went to the place and had a bite to eat, then Nexus left.

Next thing he knows, he's fighting a wild homunculus in the forest. He makes quick work of the poser then finds himself back in The Land of the Dead There, he faces himself once again. This time he confronts himself over the alchemists regime. Why'd he bother joining up with them? Turns out he was in need of a family, and they were just the next best thing. So why'd he leave? Turns out that that "family" was nothin' more than a mob of killers without any real justice, or somethin' like that. Nexus wanted nothin' to do with it, so he quit. That was that.

It is what it is, it do what it do, an' it be what it be.

Episode Three: Broken Mirrors

He left the land of the dead. Next he finds himself in the dark forest. What’s he find? Well, the place is crawling with wild homunculi. He starts to throw down with some bird of a beast, but doesn’t get the chance. Outta nowhere, some crazy guy shows up. With nothing better to do, Nexus fights him, but only for three minutes and forty-one seconds. Why? Because that’s how long the song lasts. Afterwards, the guy says something that upsets him and Nexus leaves.

Where’s he go? the beach. Why? Well, it’s where his feet take him. The he starts hearin’ a voice. He doesn’t know where it’s came from, but he hears it. This only adds to the mental stress his mind is going through. Having thought about everything he’s gone through in his life, things are starting to break. He keeps it together and constantly assures himself that he’s not crazy.

Whatever and however he heard that strange voice, he somehow tracks it to an elevator which takes him underwater? Strange, but it happens. There he finds the source of the voice he heard, but not just that, but he finds Tokushi and his whole gang.

After running away from a flood that he caused, he bumps into this robot thing and gets shocked. Nexus takes it down, but then gets hit with a tranquilizer and falls out.

So he’s asleep--or dead--he doesn’t really know, but his mind is undergoing something. He’s losing his sense of reality. He could be going through a mental breakdown, but he refuses to acknowledge it.

Episode Four: I’m Losin’ It

So he wakes up in a pod or somethin’ like that, and that’s when the mirror really begins to break. Lately, he’s been having trouble with keeping things straight. His head’s been so many places, he often loses track of where he is. He’s talking to himself--or some entity of some sort--maybe it’s God, maybe it’s himself in another dimension, maybe it’s a figment of his imagination. Who knows? He’s losing it big time. With each passing day, he’s losing his mind more and more.

Anyway, like I said. He wakes up, and the first thing he sees is that Tokushi guy again. The event is unpleasant. Then there was some doctor guy--fat, ugly kinda somethin’. Then Ryo shows up. She’s all like “blah blah blah.” Tokushi’s like “blah blah blah.” Nexus is like “I’m not crazy!” Tokushi’s like “F-U!” and fires that pod out into the blue, sending Nexus on a one way trip into the deep ocean.

The dude breaks out and tries to blast himself back to shore, but you know, being a human--as in not a fish--as in without gills--he drowns. Practically blacks out.

Time passes by and his body eventually washes up on shore, then it gets really crazy. While he’s still KO’d, he starts seeing things--things that are so real, but at the same time, not real at all. Now you may be like, “dude just had a dream, no big deal,” but it is a big deal. It’s a huge deal, because they weren’t dreams. Dreams can’t be like that, can they? Well, I guess they can. Maybe they were dreams. In all honesty, I don’t even know anymore. I really don’t. Could one of you posers fill me in on what’s happenin’?

Anyway, after that weird, crazy, completely lifelike dream sequence, he wakes up and look who’s over there! It’s none other than that groupie Ryo. Yeah, so apparently, she and Tokushi got into a little cat fight and she stormed out. Why did she follow Nexus? Is he really worth following? Whatever the case, she says something that really gets to him, so he leaves.

He’s been in the park ever since.

Episode Five: At an Impasse

So Nexus is at an impasse with himself. He can't progress. He's stuck in the dark. Feeling like the world's forsaken him and everything he's put his effort into. He's always battling the voice he hears in his head. Rejecting the light. Rejecting his conscience. And as a result, he felt it best to sulk. He did nothing but sulk in the park, until a certain somebody decided to disturb him.

Apparently, that certain someone knew of him. Her name was Ageha and she was an Alchemist. Back when Nexus was a part of the army, she'd spot him meandering around headquarters. Nexus didn't know her though. Didn't know her from nothin'. Not surprising. He never really paid attention to things like people, places, and things. Their conversation was, well, I'm sure by now you can tell how any conversation with Nexus typically goes. He's throwin' out the insults, shootin' her down, but to his surprise the “eight year old” doesn't really back down. She takes the hits and fires right back. And so he's at an impasse with her.

After eventually leaving, he found himself strolling the streets. He finds a wallet, uses the money in that wallet to by a new MP3 player, then drops off the wallet and what's left of the money to the police station. Continuing on his little walk, he runs into some dude named James. Some talk goes on. The topic of Tokushi comes up, and then it's over. Nexus leaves.

Episode Six: Back to School

So Nexus decides to retire for the day. The following morning, he gets a rude awakening from one of the dorm members asking about where the cafeteria is. One short walk later, they're there enjoying breakfast. That Ageha character happens to be there, too.

Some time later, school officially starts, and Nexus's first class is Precalculus. He struggles to get his work done, and at the end of the period, he ended up getting the problem wrong anyway. So he decided to take a break and head outside. Oddly enough, he runs into Ageha again.

They eventually come to notice a homunculus in the midst. It's feeding on a student. The student dies, and afterward, the homunculus tries to flee the scene. Nexus runs after it, catches up, and kills it right there. He had hoped he wasn't seen, but there's always someone watching. Panicing, Nexus decides it's best for him to leave, and he does so in a hurry.
