It was not often that Raven got requests for magic tutoring sessions from the students themselves. More often it was by request of the parents, or even more often, remedial lessons at her own insistence. But if there was a student so dedicated that they asked for extra work, Raven was interested enough to supply it.
She had a small stack of textbooks on her desk, and waited idly for the student in question to drop by. Though she looked bored and blank as usual, she was almost excited. It was nice to have promising young students.

Kliken had made sure to get everything that he might need, his notebook with his magic notes in it, a pair of pens so that he would have one as a back up, and it was all kept in his back pack that he had resting over one shoulder. He looked over at the man who was leaning against the car with the tinted windows, his day time guardian Than who was smiling at him encouragingly, "I will be back after class." Kliken said with a smile. While he was normally a little unsure of himself where these classes were concerned instead of his heart racing from worry it was racing from excitement.
He turned to look down at Tural who was waiting next to him, inspecting some shiny bit of trash that was on the ground as though it were the most interesting thing ever, "Ready for class, Tural?" He asked, wanting to hurry and get to class, preferably early so that he could get his things laid out and ready for his class. The idea that he would be able to get another class with Miss Millner was one thing but the idea that somehow he was lucky enough to get a one on one class with her, it was like a dream!
The Cruzoor starred up at him for a long moment, gave a huffing sound, the picked up the ball of foil so that he could take it along with them. While the item might not be worth anything in a monetary manner he was sill a huge fan of shiny things, all part of being a dragon Kliken had learned quickly.
It wasn't long before the pair were heading inside quickly. Kliken was running along and the dragon was shuffling along, huffing as they moved along, quite excited as well. It was less that he really cared all that much about the fact that they were going to a Magic Class as it was a bit above him. The part about it that made the dracling happy was that his boy was happy again, far to long the leech had locked himself away at home.
Kliken lifted a hand to knock on the door frame before he stepped inside, looking over at the teacher where she was waiting and gave her a smile, "H-Hello M-Miss Millner." He greeted her, his excitement causing his old stutter to show through though he took deep, steadying breaths as he made his way over to one of the desks, "Thank you for... for letting m-me have a-another class with you."
As he set his things down and took a seat Tural shuffled along to down down near to him, batting the ball of foil around with his short, front legs.

While she did not smile, Raven's expression lightened as her student entered. "Any student who is interested in learning is welcome in my class," she said, gesturing for Kiklen to take a seat. "I admit I was surprised by your request though, Mr. Belladonna. Was there any particular topic you were hoping to cover?"
His file was on her desk, and Raven eyed it briefly. "I would also like to discuss the assignment from the last class. You have it for me today, I assume?"

The leech boy looked rather delighted over her words, that he was welcome here in the classroom with her. He took out his notebook that had all of his magic notes in it and then gave a nod of his head, "Yes, I have my assignment right here." He told her, carefully removing the page that had the assignment written out on it in his very neat handwriting. Even the writing itself was done very carefully as he tried to do his best in everything he tried, a habit he'd picked up when he was little. The way he saw it if he did his absolute best at everything he did then his family would have no reason to send him back to D-Corp as the other families had... Kliken pushed up to his feet and walked over to the teacher, holding out the paper to her, "I am not sure about what topics exactly I wanted to cover, just wanted more classes on the subject as I don't feel that I know nearly enough about it yet." He told the teacher, "The first class I had was mostly book knowledge I think because the woman said she wasn't a mage herself, just a substitute and then the class with you." He tilted his head to the side in a thoughtful manner, "I wasn't able to call up the magic as Lian did during class either so I think I need more practice or perhaps more instruction."

Nodding her approval, Raven took the report from Kliken and gave it a quick skim. It looked well-written and even neat, two things that she liked in a student. She absently listened to his comments about teachers, murmuring an "I see," but her attention was mainly on the assignment. It was rather odd, the more she read. His experience sounded far from normal, and by the time she got to the end she was frowning.
"Hmmm." Still frowning, she set the paper down on her desk. "That you were unable to summon anything your first time is not a big setback. Most students don't succeed their first time around, and I suspect the demonstration you saw during class was as much due to luck as it was to innate talent. That said, I haven't had experience with anyone sensing the phenomena that you wrote about. I think-"
Raven paused mid-sentence. Though she had been about to ask him to repeat his experiment, she thought better of it. First, some more grounding work perhaps. And wards. Definitely wards.
"Have you thought at all about what type of magic you'd like to specialize in, Mr. Belladonna? A stalling tactic, but also a question she was very curious to hear the answer to.

Kliken took his seat and started to fidget a little as he watched the teacher read over his paper and begin to frown. That wasn't... a good sign was it? Perhaps he hadn't written down in enough detail what he'd experienced while trying to tap his particular element? He nearly signed in relief when she told him that it wasn't a massive set back that he hadn't summoned something up... that was good. The second thing not so much... she hadn't had experience with what he'd seen? He felt his stomach tighten a little, worried what that might meant.
His head tilted to the side when she started to say what she thought about it but paused mid way through, "What type of magic?" He seemed to think on that one. The teacher had described the colors of her own power being from light and holy studies, Lian's had been white which was basic magic, but he'd been unable to grasp his own to figure out what his magic might lean toward but...
"Umm... if... if I had to pick maybe magic tied to the water element? Tural and I often go swimming together and I can breath under the water so I feel the most comfortable there." He explained, unsure if that were a good enough reason for his choice.Given how he struggled of with things that weren't as comfortable for him, even simple things like leaving the house it seemed like good reasoning to his young mind.

Raven paused for a moment, frowning. "I believe you misunderstood my question, Mr. Belladonna. While elements are important, you are not quite at the level for you to pick your first focus there. Nor is it entirely by choice; many people find themselves pulled one way or another naturally, and almost everyone has an aptitude for certain elements.
"But I am getting off-topic. When I asked what type of magic you were most interested in, I meant in the functional aspect. For example, I specialize in ritual magic, though that is not a topic for beginners. There are other specialties, such as summoning, banishing, imbuing, or charging objects with abilities; there is also creation of substances through mixing the correct ingredients, often considered an offshoot of alchemy. While I will ensure that you are given proper grounding first, I thought learning about a topic that interests you first might prove more satisfying."
She paused, and her frown lessened slightly. "Though knowing what element you may care to study is not a bad thing, either," she added carefully.

The leech boy flushed slightly though it was hard to see against his already darkly red colored skin, "O-Oh..." He hadn't answered quite right which left him a little embarrassed and he ducked his head for a moment, busying himself with writing down quickly the things she listed so as to get his nervousness under control. At least there were no other students here to see him get the question wrong he thought to himself before his gaze was lifted back up toward his teacher.
"I see... Hmmm." He thought over what she was saying, his head tilting a little to the side before he set to chewing on his lower lip lightly. There were a lot of interesting things that she had listed off, "I... guess I am not really sure yet." He whispered, "If there are some books you could recommend? For... for me to read over to help me pick a subject that I want to study?"
He had been thinking perhaps on to broad a spectrum when he thought about learning magic. After all that was all he'd thought: I want to learn Magic. He hadn't even thought about an element before now and had spent even less time thinking on a specific sort of magic that he wanted to specialize in.
Kliken started to fidget again, looking even more unsure of himself until the teacher spoke again... her words were somewhat reassuring and he did his best to get his thoughts in order and his feelings back under control. He'd never be good at any of this if he let himself worry himself to the point that he psyched himself out he decided.

Considering that Kliken had misinterpreted her question, Raven wasn't all that surprised by his answer. "That's quite alright," she said, turning to the stack of books on her desk. "I have taken the liberty of selecting a few texts beforehand, which go over various types of magic and what they entail. You're welcome to borrow any that interest you, though I ask that you take no more than two at any given time. When you finish with a book, you may exchange it for a new one."
The books varied in size and shape and had titles such as "Banishing for Beginners," "The Art of Creation Magic," "Charms, Amulets, and Talismen: A Guide to Imbuing," and Raven's personal favorite, "My First Magic Ritual." Of course, D-Corp had a fine library, including a respectable selection of magic books. Some of the ones in her pile could even be found in that library, but it was a matter of pride that for dedicated students, the books came from her personal collection.
"Since you have no preference, let's begin with a test of one of the most basic magics: energy collection and dispersion. You may recall that magic from your last lesson. While I prepare, tell me if you would rather have vocal directions for this attempt, or if you would rather try on your own." Raven walked over to the other side of her desk and began rummaging through the drawers. It would be best to have protection, just in case. She still hadn't recovered from Anoki's first attempt at this, which had set the tablecloth on fire.

Kliken gave a happy sound as the teacher got him a stack of books, "O-Oh! Thank you." He said, smiling in delight as he listed to what she listed off what all she had picked out for him to read over, "Only two." He murmured to himself, trying to figure out which among those he wanted to bring home with him out of what was listed out to him. That was tough... he would have to think on it.
He gave a nod of his head in agreement to what she suggested they started with, energy collection and dispersion, "I-If I could have direction p-please." He murmured. He would feel a lot better about himself and his attempt if he had help and direction as he went about it.

"Of course. Clear your mind, for starters." Raven shifted the items in her drawer and pulled out a thin crystal rod about eight inches long, uneven at one end and pointed at the other. Twirling it deftly between her fingers, she pointed the tapered end at one corner of the room and drew a symbol. It glowed as she wrote it, floating off to the corner of the room and remaining there. She repeated the process with the other three corners, the symbols changing slightly but still bearing resemblance to each other. Once that was done, she nodded, satisfied, and turned to Kliken.
"Close your eyes. Relax. Don't take deep breaths, but focus on your breathing. Allow it to bring yourself to your center. Imagine yourself falling into the core of your body, into where your soul resides. Deeper and deeper. Tell me what you see, what you feel."

Kliken nodded, letting his eyes settle closed before he did as he was told, first letting his breathing even out before he worked on finding his center. To find the core of his being, his soul... and to see what he saw there. He gave a twitch and his hand started to itch a little bit. It was left behind, a sort of residue and taint fro where the dark power had grabbed hold of him the first time he'd tried this on his own back home.
"What I see... its just kind of like... water, but dark." He said, dark and thick, somewhat like a bog came a description to his mind. The water didn't really so much splash as it did roil, it looked thick enough that if he did fall into it that it wouldn't wobble and close around him instead of bursting forth as he hit. The water shifted a bit and those tendrils, much like the ones that had grabbed him before seemed to rise out of the dark once more.
"Should I ignore it?" He asked, or push away from it, passed it, should he be trying something so that he didn't have to deal with that part of the magic?

Darkness was not uncommon for students to see, in Raven's experience. Many people had difficulty pushing past what they saw with their eyes, to what they saw with their mind. This seemed like just another example of that, and while a bit disappointing, was certainly not the worst thing that could happen.
"Don't ignore it, but try to move past it. Don't think about seeing with your eyes, but rather with your inner self, your spirit. Do your best to shift your thinking from physical sense to mental sense. What do you see?"

He was to move passed it he thought to himself before he gave a nod, eyes closing, and seemed to be pushing forward, reaching, and trying to get by that part of the magic that seemed to have an interest in Kliken even though he didn't have any interest in it. He wanted to have magic like what he'd seen the teacher and Lian use, to be able to call it up as they had, but he worried at times that maybe he wasn't cut out to be a mage. For a moment it seemed as though he were doing well in what the teacher wanted for him to do felt as though he were pushing through the stifling feeling of being in stale, thick water.
Just as he was about to see what might be on the other side though the tainted magic that he was trying to push passed, the power he wanted nothing to do with that was trying to mask and smother what other power that might be there for him to grasp seemed to lash out. Kliken's eyes popped open and he gave a hissing sound, one hand lifting to clutch at the other one. It stung a little he thought to himself, holding tightly until the feeling subsided, doing his best not to show any outward side of pain as he didn't want to be seen as having failed at the task, "I a-almost had it." He murmured to himself, smiling. Perhaps there was hope for him yet.
