What would you guys think about voting on a book of the month? We could take suggestions, form a shortlist and have a poll to select a book for each month. It'd guarantee discussion between members and help to broaden our literary horizons..

I think that's an excellent idea for all of the reasons you've mentioned. 3nodding

Thanks! I think it's a good idea because it unites everyone, and it certainly forces you to read outside your comfort zone because it's nice to have a discussion and the reading is as much about that as completing the book. Plus we learn more about each other when we read what others have nominated.. I'm kinda passionate about this idea I'd love to see it go ahead! sweatdrop

If we can gather even a small group of people, we can go ahead and try your idea out.

I'm all for that. biggrin I think it's a brilliant idea.
Just as long as I can get enough time to see if my public library has the book and can get enough time to get it, I would definitely join. blaugh

What about a month's notice before members are expected to be reading the book?

I'm totally up for it. I've always been interested in book clubs but I don't have time to drive up town on a regular basis for that, but posting can happen any time of day, so it works for me.

Yeah, you're right, it's amazingly convenient. I hadn't thought about that. Oh, the wonders of the internet! 4laugh

What about a month's notice before members are expected to be reading the book? I could do with a month or so to dig up the selected book. I live in Holland so getting my hands on English books can be a bit of a bother. This is a wonderful idea though. It'd be a good way to discover new authors and read outside my comfort zone. biggrin

I guess my other question would be: Who's going to coordinate the club? Who selects which book to read?

I don't know who should run the club, except for somebody who is active in the guild and feels like doing it.
About deciding on which books to read. I've seen a few online book clubs where a bunch of books are suggested, by members or the leader, and it's then determined through a poll which book they'll read.
A though just struck me, we could have a selection of books that all fit a certain genre and then pick one of them to read.

I take part in the Book and Reader's forums monthly book discussions. As Casandra made mention previous, it'd probably be best to have interested members nominate a book and then make a poll to vote on which book everyone would wish to read.
We could always make a new sub-forum for it. Probably best to have one of the moderators in charge of running it at first though.

I would love this idea. It gives people who want to participate a chance to read something different. If anything, go by genre, probably. And then have people nominate good books in that genre.
