[ > ] A'dan Name: A'dan (formerly Aridan) Age: 26 Sex: Male Orientation: Heterosexual, but opportunistic. (While he prefers females and is not likely to be romantically involved with a male, he's not at all against the idea of a small affair for the sake of friendship rather than love, for shared pleasure and tension relief. He is not overly upset if Sigranth chooses to fly a green with a male rider. On the Kinsey scale, A'dan is a 1.5.)
Physical Description: Tall, narrow, and lean, A'dan stands like a man with a purpose, no motion wasted when he moves. Sandy sun-bleached blond hair tangles in a messy halo around his face, which has a rather serious, quiet expression to it. His eyes are a rather pleasant deep grey, and often narrowed in a small, privately-amused smile that's more visible in and around his eyes than on his mouth. Most often, absently, he tugs softly at his own curls when he's thinking. One deep scar, on the right side of his face, runs from his jawline up to disappear into the messy softness of his hair, a stark streak against his sun-browned skin. Less concerned with the decorative nature of clothing than its utility, he often comes off as unremarkably dressed, if terribly neat -- he is certainly no foppish prettyboy.
Personality: Calm, patient, and utterly confident, A'dan wears self-security like a glove. He doesn't feel the need to be proud or showy, but rather to distinguish himself with competence and ability, as he feels that too much showing-off is a sign of insecurity in one's abilities. He works well as a grounding force for more volatile temperaments, with a long fuse and a remarkably easygoing temper. Despite his quiet demeanor, he's personable in a quiet sort of way, and quick with a comforting smile or a joke for his companions. A'dan doesn't speak overmuch, but he nevertheless communicates with surprising efficiency and warmth despite this slight strangeness: when asked a question he feels is unnecessary, this mild-mannered young man is much more likely to give you an inscrutable smile and divert your attention than answer your question straight. Some have considered this to be a flaw of his: A'dan is ever thinking, with a tendency to overthink, though he would say that it makes him ready to act at any moment. Beneath the calm demeanor is a swift mind and a ready, eager heart. He likes nothing better than to act, to work and move and play. A man very much in tight control of body and mind, sometimes he has trouble unknotting himself to relax and not think on occasion. Along with this, A'dan has a broad protective streak -- if you wrong someone he considers belonging to him, woe be unto you! That easy temper turns into a ball of fierce, cold righteous fury, whether it's warranted or not. Given his positive (if quirky) traits, there do come negative. A'dan finds it distressingly difficult to deal with genuinely, willfully ignorant or very, very over-emotional people. They simply baffle him -- he doesn't know how to respond to them, and he tends to simply try to avoid such situations, or hastily escape them when they do arise, since he can become a bit bristly in that event. He also, despite himself, tends to get lost in his thoughts on occasion, if left to his own devices -- it makes him lose touch with reality to a certain extent, though a quick prod can bring him right back down to earth looking as sheepish as anything.
History: The illegitimate son of a holder's youngest daughter and a man who was decidedly absent at his birth, young Aridan found himself considerably lacking in personal attention after his babyhood, though unlike some children, he most certainly didn't find that an unpleasant situation. It allowed the boy, for the most part, to be raised more by the entire hold than by his mother, who had been married off shortly after Aridan's birth to prevent rumors from spreading. It was a strange situation, but pleasing to him, and thus he grew without learning too much pride in his half-esteemed parentage. Unlike the more class-conscious hold children who held themselves apart, the boy's affections seemed to fall wherever someone would spend time with him and teach him some small thing or another, though he learned not to expect praise for each small victory, but swift and just punishment for each toe put out of line. As he grew from a thin, gangly boy to an athletic teenager, Aridan found himself less interested in becoming a proper young man than helping with the physical work and learning what he could glean from the Harper and visiting craftsmen. It was assumed that the boy would be sent to one crafthall or another when he'd reached his sixteenth birthday or to simply continue and work around the hold. Unexpectedly, the day before he was to be sent out he was Searched, and the challenge involved in being a dragonrider -- as well as the constant companionship of a dragon -- intrigued the rather lonely Aridan. And still, his poor luck had not turned -- it took three Turns before the boy managed to Impress at nineteen. This bad luck, once it had mellowed long enough, turned quicker than a flit. It shocked the young candidate when the proud, almost arrogant, utterly self-absorbed Sigranth chose him -- the one who had never before had a reason to set himself apart from others. Since then, things have been filled with a giddy whirl of learning and sharpening skills and keeping his proud dragon under what passes for control.
Pets: One blue flit named Seabird.
Other/Talents: A'dan is remarkably quick to pick up something -- as he's often been called, an apprentice to all trades, but a Master at none. He's a surprisingly hearty singer, and holds wine like a skin when he can be coaxed to drink.
Post Color: Saddle BrownA blind bird sings inside the cage that is my heart And the image of your face comes to me when I'm alone in the dark If I could give a shape to this ache that I have for you If I could find the voice that says the words that capture you I think I know, I think I know I think I know why the dog howls at the moon. [ > ] Sigranth Name: Sigranth Looks to: A'dan
Physical Description: Sigranth is the most gorgeous bronze you will ever see and he will be the first to affirm this suspicion. While he does not come out and say such, it’s very obvious how highly he thinks of himself. He takes great care to keep himself looking his finest. Sigranth is not the biggest or the fastest or the cleverest, but none of that bothers him. He’s the most gorgeous lump of dragonflesh any rider has ever laid eyes on. He keeps himself in shape and keeps himself spotless... though, he could make dirty look good.
Personality: Self-absorbed, arrogant, proud and utterly, completely egotistical, Sigranth knows he's gorgeous, and he takes every single chance he can get to flaunt this knowledge. He's got enough show-off tendencies for himself and A'dan both, and even his rider doesn't seem to be able to puncture it effectively-- the best A'dan can hope for is to keep him somewhat under control. It doesn't always happen, and his patient rider has more than once found himself in deep trouble when Sigranth's encroached on some other bronze's mate. Speaking of this, he doesn't seem to be able to see the point of mating flights, as they totally sway the attentions of everyone -- which means they're not paying attention to him. This tends to make him mildly sulky, as if he were a hatchling pouting for an oiling. Still, Sigranth is perfectly capable of complex thought patterns, though the effort often seems too much for him. He understands His well enough, and he knows very well how to make himself understood by A'dan. There is nothing in the world more pleasant to Sigranth than sunbathing, though swimming is a very close second, and soliciting oilings from A'dan. Honestly, whatever he can do to exhibit himself to his best advantage, tends to be what Sigranth wants to do at that moment.

[ > ] Our Weyr Sanctuary; home, more than the Hold ever was. The weyr, though small and old, has gained a certain homey charm. The edges of the stone have been smoothed by an age of dragons' wallowing about in them, so not a sharp edge lingers. Though A'dan's bed is neatly made with a thick pad of furs and a soft, brightly-dyed cotton blanket, he doesn't often sleep in it, preferring instead the simple close comfort of curling against his lifemate when he is without a bedpartner. Privately he considers blankets and such too hot in Ista's sweltering tropical summers, and often sleeps with barely a stitch on.
Clothing is folded neatly and put away in a trunk, and there is a small handmirror and a comb resting atop this trunk. A low table contains a handful of hides stacked for reading and a cup and empty klah pitcher.
There is little that is decorative about the weyr, but it nevertheless puts off a vibe of relaxation.
