Having gotten bitten by the traveling bug, Vincent wandered into the neutral territory. He was enjoying being away from the cold of the North but felt that something was missing. What he wanted right now was someone to talk to and perhaps go exploring with. He hadn't gone and had fun for a long time thus he needed to do something fun for a change.
Looking around Vincent noticed a stream breaking off the river. Perhaps something interesting would be downstream.

Vanguardian wasn't one to stay in one place for long. She'd been out traveling and bringing the joy of song to all that allowed her. But for some reason, she lost inspiration for song along the way. After some time of wandering aimlessly and finding no muse, she decided that it may be time to come home after all.
The first thing she caught sight of that announced that she'd arrived was the river, the land changed so furtively, it was difficult to see when you've reached a border. But she'd been born near here and it was one of the clearest memories she had. She'd fallen in, but was lucky enough to be taken to a stream, where the waters were calmer.
She came to the spot where she thought she might have fallen in at, then followed the trajectory where she knew she'd come out. There was a large tree where she'd made a temporary nest in, though it was obviously not there anymore.

Traveling downstream Vincent hadn't discovered anything interesting yet. He was sniffing the ground hoping to catch the scent of anyone or even some prey. He could use a bite to eat since he barely ate at home. He caught lots of different animals scents but they were all old.
Sighing he continued on and soon came upon a large tree. He stopped to look at the tree since he had never seen one so big. He was about to move on when a breeze blew a strange helix's scent to him. Someone was close by.

Van's sensitive ears caught the rustling of grass, the kind made by someone walking on it. She glanced around, searching. No one she could see. She peeked around the tree and came face to face with a male helix. Young, like herself.
"Helloo?" she said, somewhat surprised. This one didn't smell like he was from around here. She'd never smelled anyone like this before. And she'd been to most territories. Except where it became impossible to trek for her. "My name's Vanguardian, I'm a singer," she said automatically, though with less energy than usual. She immediately regretted the introduction. What if he asked her to sing? She really couldn't as she was.

Vincent was just starting to follow the scent when a female peeked around the tree. She was really close to him and yet had remained unknown to him until now. She must be good at concealing herself. He stared at her for a minute before deciding that she was harmless.
"Hello." He said shortly, never being one for talking, "I'm Vincent." He paused when she mentioned she was a singer and gave her a dull look. "A singer huh. What a useless thing to be. I mean how do you expect to survive in this world? Use your singing to lure in your prey?" He couldn't help but ridicule her 'profession' due to the fact that he had raised himself in the North. It makes one look down on everything that can't be used to survive.

"No, I don't sing to prey. That'd just scare them away," she replied. "I hunt, just like everyone else." She seemed to blend into nothingness where the shadows touched, it was because of her dark coat. An because she didn't smell like much except where she'd been. It tended to mask the time that had passed. "I travel alone." She was a lone wolf, what humans only romanticized of. Lone for good. No permanent home nor friends. "Not like anyone will hunt for me." Though they did when she was a pup.
"Why? What do you do? Just hunt? Hunt and breath?"

Vincent had to grin at her first comments. "Good that you know that singing can't do everything for you." He said flicking his tail to the side, "I travel alone too. I don't really like socializing with others. Most are idiots who only drag you down."
He scoffed at her questions. "I survive. That's what I do and I'm quite good at it now. Most pups living on their own don't survive in the North. They can't get the rare food that they stumble upon there."

Vanguardian rolled her eyes. She hadn't been to the North, so she wouldn't know. "If you are easily dragged down, it's your own fault." She'd socialized with various types of helix. From overly nice to rather mad. But she remained alone, so she was mostly with herself. She shook out her coat and stretched, then padded around the tree, retuning with some strange mushroom in her mouth. She sat down and chewed on it as she watched the northerner.
"Vincent. So you're alone too. Funny, that. Did the adults you met also try and adopt you?" She had been alone nearly all her life. She remembered having parents, but she had no memories of them being all adult-like. She remembered her adventures and them watching, waiting for her to come home. But they never called for her to return. Never asked about her day. Never saved her from whatever she'd fallen into. She couldn't even remember their voice.
Then she became orphaned. The adults were always babying her, trying to adopt her. She'd finally stopped showing herself to them altogether, rather socializing with the pups. She fled when they did find out about her. Or she was chased away because they didn't want her recklessness to rub off on their own kin.

Vincent shook his head seeing that she didn't quite get it. "Whatever." He said watching her as she went and got a mushroom to eat. He had never seen something like that before. "What's that you're eating?" He asked curious.
"Of course I'm alone. No adult would take a pup in up there. They're too worried about they're own survival and their own pups. Why would they try and adopt another mouth to feed? There's too little food to have to try and feed another." He said thinking about the times he had to fight others for a scrap of food.

"Sounds outright rude," Van commented. "What? This?"she stuck out her tongue with bits of mushroom. Ït's vegetation. I hear there isn't much in the north. But it's edible too. Not that I'd go round eating random plants if I were you. They all have a chance of being poisonous." She gestured at the patch of similar mushrooms close by. "See? Those are like the one I'm eating, but they are red underneath and leave dust that numbs your mouth."

Vincent shrugged. "It's just how it is up there." He said nodding, "Yes that. Vegetation? Doesn't look like the vegetation that I usually see." He looked at the patch of mushrooms she was talking about and tilted his head. "So those things are poisonous..... huh. I guess looks are deceiving. They look quite good." He paused and looked up at Vanguardian, "Is there anything else around here that's this interesting?"

Vanguardian thought a moment. There wasn’t much that she’d find interesting in the neutral territory. The biggest adventure was falling, and that had ended quickly. “I suppose, maybe,” she finally said. She thought it uninteresting because this was her homeland. She knew it like she knew her own coat. She was always taken by the new things she saw in the other dominions. It must be the same for this other helix from the north. As far as she knew, the north was all white and cold. Even in the warmer seasons—until right in the middle of it. Of course he’d think it interesting to eat small puffy things that gre from the ground. “Sure. Lots of stuff!”
Van got off her haunches, wagging her tail. She was ready for adventure. Maybe this stranger would make her see what she hadn’t been able to before.

Vincent wilted a little at her first answer. "Maybe?" He asked tilting his head, "So is that a yes or a no? You say maybe and now you're saying yes." He sighed and shook his head. "Fine. Well I'll believe you for now. Where do you suggest we go first to find something?" He flicked his tail hoping that they would find something interesting and perhaps even have an adventure on the way.

Vanguardian nodded eagerly. She thought about how much fun it’d be to bother a bear, but then thought better of it. One wolf was better than two, in that case, less casualties… But the northerners were strong folk, no? “Well…” Van began, then she suddenly lunged at Vincent, plunging into the river. She padded some way, but realized it was actually more shallow than she thought. It seemed so deep when she was small. This was all well with her. She stepped out and dashed into the trees. If Vincent didn’t follow her out of curiosity, he’d follow for revenge.
Van wove through the trees as only one born in the woods could. Sure footed and flexible. Her ears flicked as she sensed another thing worth inspecting. This time, she saw it immediately. It looked like the entrance to a den, but it was black, as if it went on for quite some way underground. What had she heard, then? Did something live in that place?

Vincent was caught completely off when Van rammed him and sent them both into the river. "Hey!" He yelped getting wet. He stood up in the water and looked down at it. It wasn't freezing cold like at home. When he looked up he barely caught Van dashing into the trees. "Get back here!" He yelled getting irritated. First she rams him, gets him wet, and runs off! He growled and then began running after her.
However he steadily fell behind, not being as sure footed and used to the woods. There were barely any trees in the North so running around them was quite odd. After completely loosing sight of her he began picking up the pace growing worried that he had lost her. However when he did that he nearly ran into a tree. He skidded to a stop just before it and ended up in a sitting position. "That was too close."
